Societv in 1884. and became Honorarv I President in 1934. The funeral at Oxford was attended by Ur. Cloci~~rrrc (President), Professor €€ale Carpenter, Professor Champion, and several other F~~ll~ws of the Society. The President also reported the ilent!i of H. Willoughby Ellis. elccteti in 1900, who had been Vice-President on four occasions. and of H. H. Map, elected in 1916. The Secretary read for the second time the nominations for Officers and Council for 1944. The Secretary read the names of the following new candidates for election : P. B. 11. Allan, M.A., D. W. Mollison, D. A. Quirke, C. R. Cunningham van- Someren and G. H. Thompson. The Secretary announced that the following had been elected FeIIows of the Society : H. K. Airy Shaw, B.A., F.L.S., The Herbarium, Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, Surrey; R. J. Cousins, Lane End, Westmill, Runtingford, Herts; Mrs. Violet G. Jeffery, 19.5, Walmersley Road, Bury, Lancs; A. J. Musgrave, 21, Loveday Road, London, TTT. 13; A. R. Palmer, Oving, The Avenue, Flitwick, Beds ; B. Vesey-FitzGerald, F.L.S., Red Rise, Burley, near Ringwood, Hants. Thanks were voted to donors of gifts to the Library since the last meeting. Dr. J. R. Busvine signed the Obligation Book and was admitted a Fellow. The following paper was read in title : ‘‘ The structure and mechanism of the spiracular regulatory apparatus in adult Diptera and certain other groups of insects,” by A. A. G. Hassan, communicated by Dr. W. H. Thorpe. Communications were made by Dr. J. R. Busvine and Dr. I<. Jordan, F.R.S., abstrscts of which appeared on p. 34. N. D. RILEY, Hon. Secretary.
