PRESIDENT’S REPORT
Haere mai - welcome to the penultimate Perehitana’s peregrination from a pertinacious Pakeha. This perspicacious peroration will pontificate on paranomasia, plagiarism, percipient phraseology, pejorative presience , pragmatic premises and portentious platitudes. i.e. I am carrying on much as I have been doing for the past 11 months but boosted by some of the crosswords I have done over the Summer Vacation
My panegyric will be presented next month when we change the position of President and, hopefully, welcome new Members to other positions on the Committee –today is virtually your last opportunity to nominate for any of the available positions. YOUR CLUB NEEDS YOU!!!
PSPL continue to be evasive in providing any news on how they plan to stream line their organisation and what cost cutting measures they have put in place and I regret to say that I have nothing further to report on this subject. Given that their Financial Year ends on 31 March 2015 and that the only evidence there is of measures to recoup the losses of 2014 is an increase of $1.50 in capitation fees for Australian members and that this applies to the YEM 2016 financial year, then it is difficult to envisage a markedly improved financial result for YEM 2015. Going on past performance we are unlikely to see the financial results until October/November this year but I will keep plugging away seeking enlightenment from the powers that be.
Australia Day celebrations were once again a resounding success and over a third of our Membership enjoyed themselves at the Templestowe Scout Hall – our resident band is rumoured to have scored external gigs from non-members who availed themselves of their music provided !
Until next month, Haere ra and remember the paronomasias that osteopornosis is a degenerates disease and that flatulance is an
emergency vehicle that picks up someone who has been run over by a steamroller.

THEATRE
The Vicar of Dibley:- Lilydale Athenaeum Theatre, Sunday 15
th March 2015 at 2pm tickets $20.00.
A comedy by Ian Gower and Paul Carpenter Life in the sleepy Oxfordshire village of Dibley is turned upside-down when the ancient former reverend dies and the diocese sends a new female vicar as his replacement.
Her arrival is met with a mixture of wonder and horror from the assorted collection of rural yokels who call Dibley home. This play is a laugh from start to finish. Relive the arrival of the new Vicar, be part of the congregation for Alice's hilarious wedding, and meet again the many insane inhabitants of the quiet village of Dibley - pompous David Horton, his son Hugo, dippy verger Alice, crude farmer Owen, Leticia, Frank and dithering "no, no, no, no, yes," Jim Trott.
Please add your name to the list and pay at our February 2015 meeting.

AUSTRALIA DAY BBQ 2015
Over 50 Probians and some friends enjoyed a great BBQ celebrating Australia Day at Finn’s Reserve Scout Hall. Many came dressed (& undressed) in their iconic patriotic and crafted Australian themed clothes, with interesting individual touches. A quiz tested our grey matter. We enjoyed and shared lots of yummy food, thanks to Rhys for bringing the club BBQ. Unfortunately the Red Arrows could not afford to fly past us like last year. However the best was the Tee Vee Pee band, with Ray doing vocals & guitar, Wilma playing the keyboard and Graeme on drums. Many visitors to the surrounding park areas also enjoyed their great music and most Probians showed their dancing skills on the grassed dance floor, especially the Michael Jackson come back kid. Thank you to Margaret & James
for their organisation and the great
team of helpers who contributed to
the day’s success.

DR ELAINE SAUNDERS AND THE COCHLEAR EAR
Dr Elaine Saunders gave a spirited talk to our first Probus meeting for 2015, on her role in the hearing industry and the work of her firm Blamey Saunders Hears.
What did not come out in her address is that she led the Cooperative Research Centre team that developed the new electrodes for Cochlear Ltd., leading, in 2000, to the company gaining the Australian Design Award.
In the week before she addressed us, both the ABC and the print media reported that Professor Graeme Clark, the inventor of the cochlear implant, had received the RUSS prize of US$500,000 for his invention. Now 37 years since it was first implanted, it has been instrumental in restoring hearing to more than 250,000 people.
In a comment she made immediately after her talk when discussing this news, she said, “In typical fashion, Professor Clark’s acknowledgement to the receipt of the award was that the honour, though given to him, ‘must go to the interdisciplinary teams of engineering and medicine that achieved this result’.”
Peter Fishley
A woman was trying hard to get the tomato sauce to come out of the bottle. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her four-year old daughter to answer the phone. “It’s the minister Mummy,” the child said to her mother. Then she added, “Mummy can’t come to the phone right now. She’s hitting the bottle.”
Please add your name to PINK booking list for any of the following shows at our

Guy, Member for Bulleen. When I receive material via email, I will acknowledge receipt as I open it. If an activity is not
updated by the convenor, it will disappear. The deadline timeframe is not negotiable. If anyone has general interest
material that can be used to fill in reasonable sized spaces in the newsletter, please forward it to me and I will hold it in an

TEA ROSTER
The tea roster does not obligate anyone; it is just a guide to help
spread the load. Supplies are arranged. You need to be at the
hall at around 9.00am to set up and help serve during Fellowship
then clean up afterwards. Please bring two tea towels to dry the
dishes. There is an A4 sheet headed “Fellowship Tea Roster
Duties” in the box with the tea and coffee, explaining what has to
be done. If you are physically unable to carry out the roster
duties, please let us know and we will take your name off the list.
If you are unable to attend on your rostered day, please phone
Adrian or Anne.
