ALL ADVERTISERS TAKENOTE:
I read somewhere the other day that there’s45% chance of first marriages breaking upand a 60% chance of second marriagescollapsing. It’s probably an Americanstatistic. I’ve no doubt, however, that SouthAfrica would probably mimic it quite closely.I reckon that both you and I know ofsomeone who has got divorced recently. And, there’s a good chance, that if you’rereading this that you’ve probably beendivorced or have come from a divorcedhome. I think my family certainly did its fairshare to add to the statistics. My father wasdivorced four times, my mother twice, myelder brother thrice and my younger brotheronce. That’s 10 divorces! I think that myfamily gives credence to the saying that thebiggest cause of divorce is marriage. You’reprobably wondering about me. No, I’venever been married. Of course, at 52 thisraises the question of whether or not I havecommitment issues. Duh! Like me, you’veprobably heard one of your friends at one

The mission of the AHI refers to that whichthe AHI does to realise its vision. In order toto align the mission with the vision, weanswer the questions arising from the visionanalysis as follows: How does the AHIcontribute to creating a positive influenceon the environment in which our membersoperate and ensuring favourable businessconditions? The AHI on its own, or incollaboration with partners, initiates socio-economic empowerment projects aimed atimpacting positively on the environment inwhich it functions. What does the AHI do tounlatch opportunities for its members andto capacitate them? The AHI providesbusiness expertise to its members andprovides support to identify and developbusiness opportunities in a changingenvironment. What does the AHI do tostrengthen the potential of networking andto establish strong partnerships? The AHIfacilitates opportunities for networkingbetween members and with other role playersat local, provincial, national and internationallevels. How does the AHI contribute tocreating an enabling environment in whichour members and other businesses canfunction optimally? The AHI plays aconstructive role at the level of governmentand business to positively influence themacro-economic policy developmentprocesses. We can therefore summarise themission as follows: The AHI initiates socio-economic empowerment projects, providesan expert business service to its members, facilitates opportunities for networking andplays a constructive role at the level ofgovernment and business.
The Values ofthe AHIThe AHI endorses the values outlined in theNational Constitution of our country, andthese values inform every level of interactionby the AHI as an organisation. It entails: *Patriotism, i.e. unlatching economicopportunities beneficial to the country andits people; * Development-orientedness, i.e.empowering communities to attain higherlevels of independence, self-sustainmentand entrepreneurship; * Justice, i.e. playinga constructive role in establishing anequitable economic dispensation andpromoting social cohesion; *Accountability, i.e. helping to ensure ethicaland corruption-free business practices; and* Future-orientation, i.e. propagating macro-economic policies that emphasiseentrepreneurship, economic growth andnature conservation. * Competitiveness, i.e.to capacitate members to continue to besuccessful despite challenging andcompetitive global trading circumstances. Ihave decided to place information on theAHi, of which our Business Chamber are amember of to demonstrate why we havedecided to align ourselves with this MemberOrganisation. There will be a delegation fromMpumalanga attending the yearly ProvincialCouncil Meeting in Pretoria. We believe thatthere will be a lot of positive feedback andfresh news for our Membership.

“Don’t look for theproblems in yourrelationships, look forthe problems inyourself and get towork.”
ProblemsCause Marriage
time or another, say something to this effect:“I have problems in my marriage.” When wemake a statement like this, I think they’vegot it backwards. I think that our problemscause our marriages. Why do most of us getinto relationships and/or marriages? We kidourselves when we say it’s because of “love”.The real reason, in my opinion, is that we’regetting into relationships to sort out ourproblems or to fill a void. We think that byhaving a partner we’re going to fill the voidof loneliness, the feeling that we’re being“left on the shelf” or that the other will“complete” us. It’s a myth. We need to facethe fact that a marriage can never fix what’s“wrong” inside of us. Only we can do that. The other can never fix that void that sits inus. So, if you’re still married, don’t look forthe problems in your relationships, look forthe problems in yourself and get to work, otherwise you’ll just become anotherstatistic. And, if you’re thinking about gettingmarried, pause. Just make sure that you’redoing it for the right reasons and not becauseyou think it’s going to solve your problems.

Passion and a positive mind drive us toachieve beyond all obstacles. You don’tneed big things to achieve; life simplyrequires a positive thinker to change theuniverse. You must choose life. Every daywhen you wake up, wake up with thementality to choose joy and happiness overnegativity and pain. Embrace hard work andno one can stop your way to success. Youcan defeat obstacles through thinking youcan achieve beyond your limitations. Don’tlimit yourself. Many people limit themselvesto what they think they can do. You can goas far as your mind can conceive. What youbelieve, you can achieve.
"Embrace hard work and noone can stop your way tosuccess."
