Volksrust Recorder - Column/Rubrieke 10 Recorder 5 February 2016 Volksrust Seme ALL ADVERTISERS TAKE NOTE: I read somewhere the other day that there’s 45% chance of first marriages breaking up and a 60% chance of second marriages collapsing. It’s probably an American statistic. I’ve no doubt, however, that South Africa would probably mimic it quite closely. I reckon that both you and I know of someone who has got divorced recently. And, there’s a good chance, that if you’re reading this that you’ve probably been divorced or have come from a divorced home. I think my family certainly did its fair share to add to the statistics. My father was divorced four times, my mother twice, my elder brother thrice and my younger brother once. That’s 10 divorces! I think that my family gives credence to the saying that the biggest cause of divorce is marriage. You’re probably wondering about me. No, I’ve never been married. Of course, at 52 this raises the question of whether or not I have commitment issues. Duh! Like me, you’ve probably heard one of your friends at one The Mission of the AHI ~For more information, please call Willem Husselmann -082 415 7725 Freddie Kapp - 017 735 4444 Ashraf Moola - 082 588 5515 The mission of the AHI refers to that which the AHI does to realise its vision. In order to to align the mission with the vision, we answer the questions arising from the vision analysis as follows: How does the AHI contribute to creating a positive influence on the environment in which our members operate and ensuring favourable business conditions? The AHI on its own, or in collaboration with partners, initiates socio- economic empowerment projects aimed at impacting positively on the environment in which it functions. What does the AHI do to unlatch opportunities for its members and to capacitate them? The AHI provides business expertise to its members and provides support to identify and develop business opportunities in a changing environment. What does the AHI do to strengthen the potential of networking and to establish strong partnerships? The AHI facilitates opportunities for networking between members and with other role players at local, provincial, national and international levels. How does the AHI contribute to creating an enabling environment in which our members and other businesses can function optimally? The AHI plays a constructive role at the level of government and business to positively influence the macro-economic policy development processes. We can therefore summarise the mission as follows: The AHI initiates socio- economic empowerment projects, provides an expert business service to its members, facilitates opportunities for networking and plays a constructive role at the level of government and business. The V alues of the AHI The AHI endorses the values outlined in the National Constitution of our country, and these values inform every level of interaction by the AHI as an organisation. It entails: * Patriotism, i.e. unlatching economic opportunities beneficial to the country and its people; * Development-orientedness, i.e. empowering communities to attain higher levels of independence, self-sustainment and entrepreneurship; * Justice, i.e. playing a constructive role in establishing an equitable economic dispensation and promoting social cohesion; * Accountability, i.e. helping to ensure ethical and corruption-free business practices; and * Future-orientation, i.e. propagating macro- economic policies that emphasise entrepreneurship, economic growth and nature conservation. * Competitiveness, i.e. to capacitate members to continue to be successful despite challenging and competitive global trading circumstances. I have decided to place information on the AHi, of which our Business Chamber are a member of to demonstrate why we have decided to align ourselves with this Member Organisation. There will be a delegation from Mpumalanga attending the yearly Provincial Council Meeting in Pretoria. We believe that there will be a lot of positive feedback and fresh news for our Membership. I think that our problems cause our marriages. Why do most of us get into relationships and/or marriages? We kid ourselves when we say it’s because of “love”. The real reason, in my opinion, is that we’re getting into relationships to sort out our problems or to fill a void. We think that by having a partner we’re going to fill the void of loneliness, the feeling that we’re being “left on the shelf” or that the other will “complete” us. It’s a myth. We need to face the fact that a marriage can never fix what’s “wrong” inside of us. Only we can do that. The other can never fix that void that sits in us. So, if you’re still married, don’t look for the problems in your relationships, look for the problems in yourself and get to work, otherwise you’ll just become another statistic. And, if you’re thinking about getting married, pause. Just make sure that you’re doing it for the right reasons and not because you think it’s going to solve your problems.
