General Background

A great amount of evidence link the availability of more nursing time per patient-day with better patient outcomes. [1], [2], [3], [4]. However, increased nurse workload and the growing nursing workforce shortage [5] reduce the amount of nursing time available for patient care activities. To add to the problem, nurses have to deal with several different devices to input data. Therefore, reducing the number of devices nurses have to interact with and automating the input of data to a larger extent will maximize the efficiency and effectiveness of nurses.

Nurses have so many different equipments to

manipulate

Spend too much time adapting new

technologies even though they are willing to

Nurses could only do the documentation long after

their observations

Nurses have no chance to document records in

patient room

Too many equipments shared will result in

infection

Hands are occupied carrying the portable

device

Solutions Requirements

•Nurses need not carry devices in their hands

•Data input should be automated as much as possible

•Minimize infections from spreading across rooms

Preliminary Solutions

•Data input stations available inside every ICU room

•Wearable Computing Device

In-Wall Docking System

Solutions

- Device(Mobile Clinical Assistant) mounts in the wall- After device is inserted, if the user press send button, the patient information send to nurse station automatically- Available pull out the device from the wall
