Marlowe and Bart continued making burgers at the same rates until they made a combined total of 58 burgers in the same hour. PROCESS: The requirement is to arrive at a combined number of burgers equal to 58. The data given only gives the combined total of 23 burgers in 5 hours. You have to look for patterns that take the total up to 58. I first made a table showing the number of burgers made by Marlowe and those made by Bart, with a total for both. I looked for patterns first in Bart’s making of Bernie’s Best. I found that the pattern was add 1, then add 3 to the running total. I then looked for a pattern for Marlowe’s Bernie’s Super. I found that the pattern was add 4 then subtract 1. Using the patterns, I extended the number of burgers by each person. I continued to do this until the combined total reached 58. Bernie’s Super Burgers Bernie’s Best Burgers Total number of Burgers 4 5 9

I. RESTATE: Marlowe and Bart are making burgers. Marlowe made 4 in first hour, 8 in second hour, then 7 in third hour, 11 in the fourth hour, and 10 in the fifth hour. Bart made 5 in the first hour, 6 in the second hour, 9 in the third hour, 10 in the fourth hour, and 13 in the fifth hour. They kept on making them until they both made together 58 burgers in the same hour. II. PLAN: Strategies to be used: Make a table Look for a pattern Use logical reasoning III. I looked for patterns first in Barts making of Bernies Best. I found that the pattern was add 1, then add 3 to the running total. I then looked for a pattern for Marlowes Bernies Super. I found that the pattern was add 4 then subtract 1. Using the patterns, I extended the number of burgers by each person. I continued to do this until the combined total reached 58. Bernies Super Burgers Bernies Best Burgers Total number of Burgers 4 5 9 8 6 14 7 9 16 11 10 21 10 13 23

IV. DATA DISPLAY: Final answer becomes: Super burgers = 25 Best Burgers = 33 Bernies Super Burgers Bernies Best Burgers Total number of Burgers 4 5 9 8 6 14 7 9 16 11 10 21 10 13 23 14 14 28 13 17 30 17 18 35 16 21 37 20 22 42 19 25 44 23 26 49 22 29 51 26 30 56 25 33 58 V. SUMMARY: I first created the table the data given. This only went up to a total of 23 burgers. I then brainstormed ideas on how to solve the problem. I finally decided to use a pattern. I found the pattern for Bernies Best Burgers was add 1, then add 3. I then found the pattern for Super Burgers was add 4 then subtract 1. I added them all up according to their rows shown above across until I finally found the total was 58. The pattern for the total to continuing was add 5 then add 1. I found that the numbers that were used in this table were on Super Burgers was 25, and on Best Burgers was 33. I found that the strategies I used were correct. I didnt face any difficulties or problems. I found that working out a pattern is usually the best way to solve a problem like this. I learned that sometimes I should be a little better at using neatness so I can solve my problem using clear sentences and equations.

(Use another paper if needed, as long as you label all the sections and be very neat.)
