Remediated Resume Portfolio (100 pts) “A sense of presence of oneself to others and of the self to itself comes not through immediate visual perception, as it does in virtual reality, but through the feeling of being connected to others through the Internet. The self that does the connecting is, like the self of virtual reality, an active one; unlike the self of virtual reality, however, the that is connected is defined and in a sense embodied through its participation in various media-whether synchronous or asynchronous, or textual, animated or still.” In keeping with Bolter and Grusin’s “The Networked Self” and their idea of remediation, you are to remediate, rethink, and reimag- ined what the “resume” can be and how it might need to change in our hybrid age of print and screen. I am asking you to produce a resume in four different mediums: print, website, audio, and video. You are also required to write two reflections that accompa- ny the production of these four resumes. Bolter &Grusin, Remediation, p. 258 Objectives: To encourage you to consider the various affordances of a medium (what that medium does; e.g., a doorknob affords twisting, which allows the user to open a door) To develop a personal-professional writing style that breaks down the binaries between personal and professional types of writing (something the internet has caused professional workers to recognize) To produce a resume portfolio that can used to pursue a career while simultaneously developing an understanding that a resume must always be updated To hone visual design skills and engage in critical revision of your (and others) portfolio design Please put all of the documents into one document (.doc or .pdf) and include hyperlinks (preferably embedded in the text) to your non-print resumes. Overall portfolio due to me on September 18th by 1:00 pm. I will not accept any late portfolios because I begin grading the portfolios at 1:00 pm. Requirements A professional web presence of your choosing (10 pts) A print resume (10 pts) A two minute audio resume (20 pts) A 2-4 minute video resume (30 pts) A formal articulation of the benefits and drawbacks of each medium for the purpose of the resume. You may draw on your own resumes as examples. Screen-captures and images are strongly encouraged. (No more than 800 words) (20 pts) A formal reflection (10 pts) that answers the following questions: a) What are your career goals? b) Why do you have these career goals? c) Which of these mediums best suits your career goals? d) What kinds of experiences do you need to succeed in this career? e) What skills have you honed during this portfolio?
