• Kenya has been in the top 10 recipients of humanitarian assistance in three of the last 10 years.
• The investment climate in Kenya has not been very favourable to attract private investors
• In 2007, the country was greatly affected by post election violence which disrupted the stability of the country’s macroeconomic environment.
• This, however, has gained momentum with the new constitution and the new government under the leadership of H.E. President Uhuru Kenyatta.
BACKGROUND
• The devolution of the country into 8 counties has led to more leadership and decision-making to be made at the county level which thus reduces the hustle of private investors who wish to invest in Kenya.

CHALLENGES FACED
• Input of stringent legislative laws to combat corruption and independent institutions to fight corruption

• An effective tax system that will assist the be fair to the poor and still fair to the rich
MEASURES
• Energy sector - With discovery of oil in the
Northern part of the country, there is a big opportunity for private entities to invest in this area
- Major parties such as Tullow oil have started operations on this.

• InfrastructureNairobi, the country’s capital is characterized by super highways e.g. the Thika Super Highway. The Konza city is also a project set to put the country on a land map. Major malls such as garden city mall and the Two Rivers mall set to be be the biggest in East Africa
• IT-Kenya’s IT sector has rapidly growth spearheaded by the MPESA innovation by telecommunication giant SAFARICOM which is a world class innovation.Major firms such as Seven Seas technologies, Cellulant, IBM, Microsoft, etc have come in to explore this wide market of opportunities

• Health- This is a key area as it achieves
both the financial returns and social development goals thus very important towards achieving the SDG’S and Vision 2030.

There is an increasing demand for world class education for their children which has led to major schools such as Hillcrest, Braeburn, Brookhouse etc and universities such as Strathmore College, Riara and etcetera come in to provide the same.
