WHAT IS PRINTMAKING?Printmaking is an art form in which ink or other materials are transferred from a matrix (not THE Matrix) to a material like paper, fabric, wood, or stone. A wide variety of techniques can be used in printmaking, and this art is one of the oldest in the world.

making MOTIFS from a
linoleum RELIEF.
MOTIFA recurring subject, theme, idea, pattern, design, etc. in a literary, visual, or
musical piece; prevalent in Islamic architecture.
RELIEFCould be one of two things:
When a piece of stone, wood, or other material’s background is cut in order to
give the impression that the subjects are raised.

1. A Linoleum Block
2. V-shaped Linocutter or Gouge
3. Ink
4. Paper
5. Sketch paper for practice
HOW TO DO IT:
IMPORTANT DETAILS1. Your designs will be flipped, a mirror image of themselves!
2. Everything white on the printed image has been cut on the relief! Everything black on the printed image has not been cut on the relief!
