Connect and secure cables and cords

Rest the box on itsside and pull out yourHP OfficeJet. Removeany packaging or tapefrom the HP OfficeJet.

If the screen to the left does notappear, go to the Windows taskbar,click , and then choose . Inthe Run dialog box, type(substitute your CD-ROM drive letterfor the d), and then click .

Note: On the screen, you may be prompted toenter your cable type.

A parallel cable is included in your carton.However, if your PC is equipped with a USBport and you are using Windows 98/2000, werecommend you purchase and use a high-speed (12Mbps) USB cable to increaseperformance.

Check your PCs documentation to determineif you have a USB port.

Verify that you havethese additional keycomponents.

Lower the right print-cartridgelatch down onto the top of thecartridge, and push down untilthe latch locks firmly into place.

Remove the black print cartridge (thinner one)from its packaging and, being careful to touchonly the black plastic, gently remove both thegreen pull tab and the blue tape covering thenozzles.

Push the black print cartridgefirmly down into the slot on theright. As you insert the cartridge,make sure the label is facing you.

CAUTION:Do not touchor removethe gold-coloredcontacts.

Remove and reinsertyour HP OfficeJetinstallation CDin yourCD-ROMdrive.

The HP OfficeJet software installationmenu appears. The Productivity Sectionlists additional programs you can install.Click the program name and follow theonscreen installation instructions.

10Turn on your computer. Windows softwareautomatically configures your HP OfficeJet.

A series of Microsoft New Hardware Foundmessages appear. The configuration maytake a few moments.

Configure your software

Click to complete the software setup.If this screen does not appear, seeChapter 1, Additional Setup Informationin the Basic Guide.

OKNote to USB Users: These screens mayhave already appeared on your PC while youwere setting up.

Note to Windows NT 4 Users: The message,"HP OfficeJet G Series Configuration done"appears instead. See step b.

Look at your display for the language list.Enter the code for your language, and thenconfirm your selection.

Insert color print cartridge

Remove the color print cartridge (widerone) from its packaging and, being carefulto touch only the black plastic, gentlyremove both the green pull tab and theblue tape covering the nozzles.

Push the color print cartridge firmly down intothe slot on the left. Lower the left print-cartridgelatch down onto the top of the cartridge, andpush down until the latch locks firmly into place.

CAUTION:Do not touchor removethe gold-coloredcontacts.

Print an alignment page9Make sure paper is loaded in yourHP OfficeJet.

The message Press toAlign Cartridges appears in thedisplay. Press the key toenable the HP OfficeJet to performthe alignment. After a page prints,the alignment is complete.

Look at the alignment page forgreen check marks, and thenrecycle or discard the page.
