SUN*STAR. Whenever CEBU is chosen as a venue for events or conventions, the name SUN*STAR immediately comes to mind. SUN*STAR has been equated to Cebu, as it is the communication medium there.
Subsequently, a SUN*STAR newspaper was established in different localities, also developing substantial following in the respective communities that announcing any event in the local SUN*STAR would suffice_ be it SUNSTAR (SS) BAGUIO, SS PAMPANGA, SS CEBU, SS BACOLOD, SS CAGAYAN DE ORO, SS DAVAO.
After all, the SUNSTAR network is the only one of its kind in the country. Thus, ADOBO magazine readers and advertisers who would like to target specific audiences outside Manila, would have good use of SUNSTAR, thereby resulting in more cost-efficient, focused advertising. Furthermore, the SUN STAR media group includes a website (www.sunstar.com.ph) averaging over 60 million hits and 20 million page views per month which would also service any client’s online marketing requirements.

The price of liquefi ed petroleum gas (LPG) or cooking gas was cut anew by 50 centavos per kilo yesterday.
Arnel Ty, LPG Mar-keters Association (LP-GMA) president, said the rollback was con-sistent with the drop in international contract prices.
They are also project-
ing an additional P3 per kilo rollback in the com-ing weeks, he said.
An 11-kg LPG cylin-der will now sell at P580, compared to about P600 to P750 the previous week.
Last month, LPG con-tract prices went down by $5 per metric ton to $731 per metric ton.

There will be no classes at all levels on Monday, Feb. 22, to commemorate the 24th anniversary of the Peo-ple Power Revolution.
However, it will be a regular working day for government and private offi ces.
While the event is cel-ebrated every year, it is
not among the country’s national holidays.
Proclamation 1841 issued in July last year listed all the regular and special holidays for this year.

A close look at those who want to leadTo help voters make an informed choice
in May, The Philippine STAR has started a series of interviews, in no particular order, with candidates for president.
Meetings are hosted by The STAR in the newspaper’s offi ce, with the editorial staff asking the candidates questions on a wide range of issues.
The answers, recorded on tape and in vid-eo, portions of which can be viewed online in philstar.com, can later be used as references
for campaign promises met or unfulfi lled, goals achieved or changed.
The resulting write-ups will include per-sonal information about the candidates, including declared assets and liabilities, as well as family, friendship and business ties that could affect policy making in the next administration.
A condensed version of all the write-ups will be put together and published on the eve of Election Day, for the guidance of voters.

GUAGUA, Pampanga – A rival of President Arroyo in the race in Pampanga’s second congressional district said she must win fi rst if she wants to become speaker of the House.
Adonis Simpao, the Liberal
Party (LP)’s candidate against Mrs. Arroyo, yesterday said he is confi dent he will beat her and will bank on the political maturity of Kapampangan vot-ers to clinch the victory.
Simpao is a businessman engaged in a family-owned construction company in this province and counts himself among Pampanga’s middle class.
By DING CERVANTES“I hope President Arroyo
and her allies realize that she is not a sure winner here in the second district of Pampanga. We intend to give her a very good fi ght and we intend to
win. I believe in the end the Kapampangans will vote for the true Kapampangan and not someone who didn’t even grow up in the province,” he said in reaction to reports that
If his gestures or orange shirt are any indication, El Shaddai leader Mike Velarde is clearly for Nacionalista Party (NP) stan-dard-bearer Sen. Manuel Villar Jr.
Villar said he arrived at this conclusion when he and his run-ning mate Sen. Loren Legarda
attended a prayer rally of the Catholic charismatic group in Hong Kong last Sunday.
“We must remember that this is a Catholic charismatic move-ment, hindi natin inaasahan ang mga ganyan klaseng (we can’t ex-pect such) endorsement. I think
we have to read between the lines,” Villar told editors and col-umnists of The STAR yesterday.
He said “the message there is very clear,” but one cannot look for a formal statement such as from a political party.
In his speech during the prayer
rally, Velarde said only Villar can help the poor, especially the over-seas Filipino workers.
Everyone was in orange shirts and everything Velarde did was clearly a signal, Villar said, add-ing that he didn’t think Velarde

Nacionalista Party (NP) president and standard-bearer Sen. Manuel Villar Jr. said the party will nomi-nate its own candidate for House speaker in the next Congress to challenge President Arroyo, in case she is elected congress-woman and aspires for the speakership.
“The (Nacionalista) Party would choose its speaker and hindi naman miembro ng party namin si Presidente (and the President is not a member of our party),” Villar told The STAR editors and columnists gathered for the start of the paper ’s presidential series yesterday. “I am not saying that we are going to win. I am just saying that we are going to nominate (a speaker).”
Villar has rebuilt the NP from scratch and steered it to its status as one of the most formidable political parties in the country today, boasting of hundreds of local leaders in its roster.
The NP has been aggres-sive in raiding other political parties and in recruiting more members. Since last year, Vil-lar has been swearing in new members to the NP’s fold.
Villar again defended the NP and himself from accusa-tions that he has struck an un-holy alliance with Mrs. Arroyo.
“In the field, Lakas and Nacionalista are hitting each other. On Dec.1, many wanted to join us but the President stopped them,” Villar said.
He stressed that he has not seen or spoken to the First Cou-ple since his ouster as Senate president in November 2008.
If elected president, Villar said he would respect the inde-pendence of the three branches of government but stressed the
