The Friendship House in Wamego has grown to become one of northeast Kansas’ favorite eating establishments. Casual dining in a unique, comfortable atmosphere makes The Friendship House a popular gathering place for young and old alike. The restoration in 1988 of Wamego’s Old Dutch Mill located in the City Park, and the production of the stone ground whole wheat flour at the Mill gave birth to the idea for the Friendship House. Why not bake the flour into a finished product that could be enjoyed by Wamego’s many visitors and residents? The original owners purchased the property in October 1988 and opened for business January 24, 1989. Quality, not quantity, is the goal of the bakery and restaurant. The daily menu is not large, but one can always be assured of a tasty selection. All bakery items are made from scratch and fresh baked daily. The bread can be purchased as loaves, dinner rolls, and other specialty shapes ordered to fit your needs. Welcome To Wamego literally sits at geological and historical crossroads. Nestled on the north bank of the Kansas River, the hills north of town hold remnants of the last ice age, while across the river to the south sit the majestic Flint Hills. Oregon Trail Road, just northeast of town, follows the Oregon-California Trail, and visitors can still find deep ruts from the tens of thousands of wagons that made their way west seeking freedom and a new life. Again to the south, visible from town, is historic Mt. Mitchell, the highest point in the area and a monument to the settlers from Connecticut who came to Kansas to create a Free State during the days the territory was known as Bleeding Kansas. Below the monument stands the Mitchell farmstead, the last stop on the Underground Railroad. Wamego City Park is considered one of the most beautiful city parks in Kansas. It showcases the Schonhoff Windmill, built by a Dutch immigrant who used the mill to grind grain into flour. It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It also contains a mini-prairie town with restored buildings. Wamego is the birthplace of Walter P. Chrysler, the founder of Chrysler Corporation. His birthplace home is being renovated and will serve as a visitors welcome center. The city, founded in 1866, has witnessed many successful entrepreneurs in its 140-plus years. They have left an indelible mark on the town, from the beautiful buildings near the central business district, to the mansions and stately homes throughout the community. The Bakery

Take a dozencookies home!

In May of 2008, Mike and Margo Pray purchased the Friendship House and have since expanded the catering operation to includetowns 60 or more miles away and serve 300 or more guests at a time.

We still offer our amazing “Home cooking just like Grandma makes” food, whether it’s from our bakery or the grill. That is ourmotto! Jake Trummer, our catering manager and Head Chef, works hard to keep our food up to your expectations. His “scratch” bakingand cooking has made the Friendship House a popular destination as well a favorite caterer of many.

Opening on Sundays has started a really great tradition of serving a full homemade breakfast all day plus brunch starting at 11am. Tobetter serve the needs of the community, the Friendship House has expanded the kitchen area. This will enable us to serve breakfast daily,be open on Mondays, and expand our lunch menu to include Gourmet Burgers, as well as to expand our catering operations to be secondto none!

With the expansion we can offer you an expanded menu, however we are not changing the type or quality of the food we offer. We arecontinuing our tradition of offering fresh, wholesome food, therefore we will not be offering fried foods.

The staff of Friendship House welcomes you to Wamego. We hope your stay is enjoyable and that you will come back to visit us manytimes.
