To present an item or piece in a summarised or concise forms To enhance the clarity of item. To increase the understanding or comprehension of the item. To ensure coherence of thought in the news item. To maintain consistency or continuity in the news coverage. To make the item readable and interesting. To put the item in a presentable manner-layout ,design etc. To ensure that the item is in good taste.

GOLDEN RULES OF EDITING

Keep the reader in mind. Step into the shoes of the reader. Try to use simple language. Attract the immediate attention of the reader. Make the story communication. Make the story visually attractive Just narrate, do not try to be preacher. Remain political. Do not over-whelm the reader. Keep on learning.
