Transi'onal  rhythm  is  rhythm  that  leads  the  eye  from  one  point  to  another  without  being  interrupted.

The  tables  con'nuous  flowing  rhythm  creates  a  smooth  transi'on.  From  the  bo;om  to  the  top  of  the  table,  it  maintains  rhythm  throughout.  Consider  adding  a  table  like  this  too  a  living  room  or  formal  dining  room.    46

Rhythm

47

While  the  flowers  on    the  pan'ng  may  seem  somewhat  bleak,  when  paired  with  a  bright  color  the  pan'ng  would  contrast  nicely.  The  flowered  pain'ngs  would  look  nice  in  southern  home  hallway  or  in  a  teenagers  bright  colored  room  if  paired  with  the  right  furniture.

Contrast  rhythm  is  rhythm  that  has  an  abrupt  change  that  forms  repe''ve  rhythm.

Contrast  rhythm  can  be  seen  in  pa;erns,  such  as  open  and  closed  or  light  and  dark.

Light  and  dark  color  contrast  rhythms  can  be  found  in  fabric,  area  rugs,  and  tex'le  or  wall  coverings.

Proportion

48

Soothing  balance  can  be  achieved  when  objects  are  in  propor'on  to  space.  All  of  the  objects  in  the  picture  are  on  the  larger  side  which  makes  the  room  feel  warm  full  but  not  packed  and  stuffy.

The  china  cabinet  could  appear  to  large  for  a  room  if  placed

incorrectly.  Take  into  considera'on  the  room  before  adding  an  object  that  would  normally  appear  to  large.  The  small  couches,  however,  draws  the  eye  to  the  towards  the  china

cabinet,  which  is  lovely.

Not  all  objects  need  to  be  in  propor'on  to  space  in  order  to

be  aesthe'cally  pleasing.  Abstract  buildings  can

some'mes  not  be  in  propor'on  with  space  as  well.  Objects  not  in  propor'on  with  space  need  to  be  added  to  a  southern  home

carefully!

Scale

50

Human  scale  is  the  most  important  when  choosing  scale.  Adults  tend  to  prefer  scale  that  complements  the  average  human  form.

BE  CAREFUL!!!  Super  large  and  super  small  scale  oOen  feel  awkward  to  other  people!

51

Since  it  is  important  to  select  objects  in  scale  to  one  another  the  large  furniture  in  the  photo  is  an  example  of  symbolic  scale.

Add  a  similar  set  up  to  a  formal  entry  way  to  your  southern  home  for  a  warm  welcome.
