With the official count of students occurring last week, Braeside reached over the 200 mark, with a total of 204 students. We currently have 25 Kindergarten students, which will result in the school maintaining a consistent number over time. Our number of Indigenous students has increased from 25 last year to 39 this year. To support this we have increased our AIEO time for this term by one day a week. Congratulations to our choir students on their performance in Katanning last week. They sang a wide range of songs, with only two weeks of practice since last year. They braved some wind gusts and flying hats, managing to keep singing throughout. A special mention of thanks to Mrs Newman for coordinating the students and conducting on the evening. Braeside students were treated to an encore performance at last week’s assembly. I believe there are many other exciting choir events on the cards for the remainder of 2018. Parent Information Night Thankyou to all those parents who took time out of their busy afternoons and evenings to attend the parent information night last week. This night gives teachers the opportunity to share with parents the routines, structures and procedures they will put in place throughout 2018. Most teachers copied enough packages
Some of our Kindy Class busy learning maths. You can read more about what they have been doing on page 3.

for the whole class and would have sent these home. Please have a look in your child’s bag and take time to read through the information. If you have any questions, please contact your classroom teacher. Diaries Classroom diaries form an essential part of the communication between every classroom teacher at Braeside and the parents. Diaries are checked daily by either the teacher or Education Assistant. If checked by the Education Assistant messages are passed onto the classroom teacher. Diaries are used to record students home reading and their progress towards 100 nights of reading. Your student’s diary will also contain their Reading Eggs and Mathletics log in, in case they wish to spend some time at home on these very useful programs. Parent Information Workshop Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Lexile Prior to the next assembly, we will be hosting a parent information session. We will commence at 12pm, as this will give us more time for hands on access to the content. The focus of the session is Mathletics, Reading Eggs and Lexile. During the session you will have the opportunity to log on as your child, whilst the websites and benefits are explained. Having this knowledge will enable you to support your child at home, research indicates that both these programs support increasing Maths and Reading competencies especially with regular and repeated use. Every student at Braeside has access to all programs, however Lexile can only be access once students have achieved a pre-determined reading level. Mrs Wigg and Mrs Tester will also detail how these programs will be utilised within the Literacy and Numeracy blocks. Goldies Some students will be receiving Goldie pins next assembly for 25 Goldies. As a staff we have decided to make the special afternoon tea a once a term event for the students who receive pins. We will also choose 5 Goldie recipients each assembly to receive a special Goldie pencil. Mrs Woods will be sending a note around to all teachers letting them know how many Goldies each student has received for 2017 and 2018 so far. 25 is our Bronze Award, Silver is 50, Gold is 100, Sapphire will be 200 for students who achieve this many before they leave us in Year 6. As Goldies accumulate each year, 200 is quite a possibility for some students to achieve. If students lose their pins, parent can purchase a replacement pin. Principal’s Report for P & C Each month I produce a Principal’s Report for the P & C. This goes into detail about programs at Braeside and Housing and Works projects. I will add this to the website each month for parents to read, this will enable all to have access to the same messages. Teresa Wigg Principal

Sorting big, small and medium sized rocks into piles.
Positional language
In front of, under, behind and in the blocks. All this hard work is
so exhausting, so we deserve our rest!
Learning our sounds. We thought it’s a good idea to go outside and practise our letter ‘s’ in the mud and
to paint it with water. We also learnt some new vocabulary when we decorated our cupcakes e.g.
smooth, rough, lines and curves.
Literacy
Learning our friends’ names through songs and games. We are also learning to share and take turns.
Lots of learning and exploring has taken place.
Wow! It’s only been 3 weeks!

Telephone the school on 9821 2328 or 98212319 Send a text message to 0437 050 149 Send a written note with your child and have then hand it to
the front office. Send an email to [email protected]
Remember to tell us your child’s name and the reason for their absence.
By providing us with this information you will ensure your child’s attendance record is up to date and it will also assist to reduce
postage costs ensuring that school funds are directed to classroom activities.
EVERY DAY COUNTS FOR YOUR CHILDS EDUCATION
If your child misses 1 day per fortnight that equals 1 month per year and adds up to missing nearly 1 and
a half years of school i.e. 90% attendance rate.
If your child misses 1 day per week that equals 2 months per year and adds up to missing nearly 2 and a
half years of school i.e. 80% attendance rate.
If your child misses 2 days per week that equals 4 months per year and
adds up to missing nearly 5 years of school ie.60% attendance.
If your child misses 3 days per week that equals to 6 months per year and adds up to nearly 8 years of school
i.e. 40% attendance.
In Room 1 we have had a busy start to the year. We read the story The Very Hungry Caterpillar and completed lots of activities. We made some Hungry Caterpillars out of fruit loops and had to create a pattern
as part of our maths program. In art we made a Hungry Caterpillar finger painting . We have just started to read the story Wombat Stew and we love having fun pretending to make the wombat
stew with lots of bugs, nuts and feathers.
In HASS (Humanities and Social Sciences) we have been
looking at our family trees and how everyone’s family is
different.
This is us taking orders in our new CAFÉ. We are great Chefs.
We are excited in Room 1 to be learning to use the Seesaw app which allows all the students to share their
learning with their parents at home. The children are learning to take photos and videos of their work and
uploading it to their own personal page. It is lovely to read the comments parents write to their children.
