Location
Southampton is a major port and of the UK’s main com-
mercial centres. The City has a population of 236,900,
with a metropolitan population in excess of 1,500,000
(Census 2011).
The city is located 76 miles (122 km) south-west of Cen-
tral London, 30 miles (48km) east of Bournemouth and 20
miles (32km) west of Portsmouth.
Southampton benefits from excellent transport links with
Junctions 3 and 4 of the M27 located to the north of the
city, which connects to the M25. Direct train links are
available to London Waterloo (1 hr 21 min), Bourne-
mouth (30 min) and Portsmouth (33 min). In addition,
Southampton airport is located five miles (8 km) north-
east of the city centre. There is also a direct service to
the Isle of Wight from Southampton which is run by Red
Funnel.
The city is a popular Higher Education destination in the
UK, with the University of Southampton being a member
of the prestigious Russell Group of Universities. The full
time student population is in excess of 32,000 and both
universities are popular with national and international
students.
Situation
Situated on High Street, within close proximity of Southampton city
centre, 31-33 High Street is approximately a 10 minutes walk from the
Southampton Solent University’s main campus. The National Ocean-
ography Centre is located approximately 0.8 miles from the 31-33
High Street.
In addition to quick and easy access to campus, residents of 31/33
High Street benefit from being just a short walk from Southampton’s
main retail and leisure offerings.
The scheme is less than 1 mile from Southampton Central Railway
Station, providing students with access to the rest of the UK.

Southampton is an important and prestigious higher edu-

University of Southampton:
The University of Southampton is internationally renowned,
higher education institution and is a member of the prestig-
ious Russell Group of Universities. The university ranked 35th
in the Guardian University Guide 2018, as well as 102nd in
the QS World University Rankings for 2017-18. There are cur-
rently 23,179 full time students at the university, of which
5,909 are postgraduate, 17,270 are undergraduate and
7,090 are international students.
The university has a strong reputation for both its teaching
and its research. The vast majority of research undertaken
by Southampton is judged to be of world-leading im-
portance.
Southampton Solent University:
Southampton Solent University is internationally renowned
for its maritime courses. There are currently 9,389 full time
students at the university, of which, 173 are postgraduate,
9,389 are undergraduate and 1,427 are international.

Development Proposal
The scheme will provide modern, high quality student accommodation
over four storeys. There is a resolution for a consented scheme which will
provide a total of 120 ensuite studio apartments arranged in 120 flats. In
addition, the scheme will provide a number of parking spaces alongside
cycle storage for residents.
