We Are Here Together

Spring is here, thank goodness. 2020 has passed, sickness is on the downswing and life is slowly getting back to nor-mal. We still need to take care of ourselves and oth-ers but the bermuda grass will be green soon. New leaves are showing, the martin birds are coming back, the hummingbirds are on the way and grass cutting is on the horizon. I can’t wait……..

Good friend, great American and one of the best five string, guitar and fiddle players around, John Culbreath, formerly of Glendale, sent me the following: “Flipping through the channels last night, I came across an old Johnny Cash show.

One of his guests was Lorne Green, the Daddy from the old “Bonanza” show. WPS celebrated the last day of school before the holidays with a North Pole Day. Students wore their pajamas to school and enjoyed Christmas parties and activities

held in the classrooms. During the day,

students were able to walk through the stage decorated with a North Pole theme. Students even had a surprise visit from a special

guest from the North Pole.

WPS students and staff enjoyed these activities as we concluded the first semester of the school year.

Fourth grade students at WES made figurative language Christmas trees during the month of December. The students distinguished between different types of figurative language.

They read the statement written on the Christmas light bulb and determined which type of figurative language it represented.

The class had fun decorating the bulbs and drawing the trees using skills they learned in Ms. Vaughan’s art class.

Making Ornaments

Students ended the semester on a positive note with some holiday cheer! WPS students made paper ornaments with Assistant Principal Mrs. Parris and Behavioral Interventionist, Miss Bri and added them to the tree! It was lots of fun and glittery, too!

(L to R) Zachary Cannady, Joseph Smith, Lucius Cathcart, (Front): Jaxon Mitchell got to help make ornaments for the tree in Mrs. Parris’ office.

SECOND GRADE CHRISTMAS COMMUNITY PROJECTEach year at Christmas, second grade at WPS collects money to help a family in need. During November and December the grade level collected $600 and were able to bless a family in our community for Christmas!

Covid-19 prevented the Guidance Depart-ment from schedul-ing career visits during lunch this school year, so Career Development Facilitator Tevin Logan took another approach to introduce a number of different careers to Woodruff High School Students.

This fall Logan started creating a Virtual Career Fair featuring former WHS students and a variety of community members such as Derek Jones, Associate Head Football Coach at Texas Tech, Kenneth Gist, Mayor of Woodruff, Dr. Jeff Cashman of VCOM-Carolinas, and

J. Solesbee of Harper Construction.

Each month Logan continues to upload videos to the Guidance Group page in Schoology highlighting individuals from a number of different career fields.

To locate the Virtual Career Fair students can click on the resources tab in Schoology then the Group icon, then select WHS Guidance, then look in the Career Development Folder and the Virtual Career Fair folder will be found at the top of the list.

UGLY CHRISTMAS SWEATER DAY

On Friday, December 11, students and teachers celebrated by wearing ugly Christmas sweaters and as the picture shows everyone got into the spirit of the season.

CHRISTMAS TREEWoodruff High School Student Council members kicked off the holiday season by decorating the Christmas Tree that stands in the school lobby. This is an annual tradition that takes place right before the Thanksgiving break so that the student body is welcomed back with a bit of holiday spirit.

HALL DECORATING CONTESTTo create some holiday spirit the WHS Student Council held a hall decorating contest starting

the first week of December. Each class was assigned a hall to decorate with a theme. The freshman class used a classic theme to decorate the 100 hall, the sophomore class chose a tacky theme for the 200 hall while the juniors used the Polar Express to decorate the 300 hall and the seniors depicted Whoville from How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The junior class won the competition with the very creative decorations shown in the photos and earned bragging rights for this year.

CANNED FOOD DRIVE WHS started its annual canned food drive before Christmas break and is currently continuing the efforts to collect much needed food during the pandemic. The food drive sponsored by the Student Council will be donating the collected items to the Helping Hands Ministries of the Woodruff Area.

the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and

aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace with your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world! Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Shoot low, sheriff and never ignore your

opportunities. Thanks for reading, more soon.
