Definition
• Congenital dilatation of the ureter above aperistaltic normal caliber juxta-vesical segment.
Etiology
Unknown, but may be due to:
• Aganglionosis:
(analogous to esophageal achalasia or Hirschsprung disease).
• Muscle derangement with increased collagen fibers.
C.P
• Asymptomatic.
• Complications:
1. Urinary stasis.
2. Urinary stones.
Radiological findings
• Dilated ureter, tapering toward juxta-vesical normal caliber segment giving bird beak appearance.

The renal collecting system is not dialted.
The dilated ureter is not tortuous.
