EARLY: MY TRIP TO PACIFIC SCIENCE CENTER 02

This is the main entrance to Pacific Science Center. It is outside. Before entering the museum, I need to have a ticket.

I can get a stamp on my hand or wrist. A stamp means that I can leave and then come back inside the museum on the same day.

After we get tickets, my family can go into the Science Center.

This is an entrance to Pacific Science Center.

I wait quietly in line with my family. I can go explore the Pacific Science Center after I have a ticket.

This entrance has a special whisper exhibit outside. I can whisper into the tiny silver ring. The big blue plate will send the sound over to the other side.

The person who puts their ear close to the silver ring will hear the whisper! I can take turns talking and listening with my family.

These are pictures of Pacific Science Center staff name tags and uniforms.

At any time I can ask staff and volunteers wearing these for help. I can ask these people questions.

I need to stay with my adult and listen for their voice when I am at Pacific Science Center so I will stay safe.

Inside the Science Center, I will walk carefully.

I can play here. These exhibits all use water. Some exhibits will be wet when I touch them.

Others will be dry.

The water is cool. Some kids think it is really fun to feel the water and turn the globe.

WATER WORKS

This an outdoor stage. It is a place for special shows.

I can play here on sunny days if the stage is not being used.

The Brown Bag Corner is a place I can eat!

There are lots of tables with many seats to sit on.

BROWN BAG CORNER PACIFIC SCIENCE CENTER CAFE

If I get hungry, I can walk up the stairs to the place our family can go to get food. It is also a place we can go if I need to take a break. It is very quiet when it is not near lunchtime.

We need to walk up the stairs or take the elevator to get there.

The Live Science Stage is where people teach me about science. A sign by the Information Desk tells my family what time the shows start.

LIVE SCIENCE STAGE 5

The shows are very fun and loud. My family or I can ask Guest Services about the show.

There are a lot of other kids at the Science Stage. I can get there early if I want to get a seat.

My family can see lots of things when we visit Pacific Science Center. Here is where I can find out about all the things we can see today.

The planetarium is a room with a special machine. The machine lets me see stars on the ceiling. My family buys tickets to see the star show, then we wait in line together.

I will see red computer screens when I walk into the planetarium.

The planetarium turns the lights down slowly to see the stars. In a star show, we learn about types of stars and how to find constellations. Sometimes the pretend stars will rotate so I can see new galaxies.

After the show, I can look for the red EXIT sign and go out the door underneath it.

DINOSAURS WILLARD SMITH PLANETARIUM 76

The dinosaurs are exciting. Some of these dinosaurs make sounds. Some dinosaurs move.

They are not real dinosaurs.

I can sit on a dinosaur footprint!

This is the tide pool. I can look at the animals in the water. I can touch sea animals here. First, I rinse my hands with water so that I will keep the animals healthy. I need to press a black button on the floor with my foot to get the water out.

SCIENCE ON A SPHERE SALTWATER TIDE POOL 98

This is a special globe. It is made with pictures of the planet. Sometimes staff will give a show and tell using this special globe.

When there is a show, I can listen to the staff. When I watch the globe, I stand behind the railings.

I can use my quiet voice when I walk by or look at other exhibits about the planets nearby.

When the show is not running, I can see clouds move across the globe.

If an adult says it is okay, then I can touch an animal. I will use gentle touch. I will use only one or two fingers to make a gentle touch.

The water will be cold. These animals like cold water!

THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO SEE IN WELLBODY ACADEMY.

HERE IS WHERE I CAN MAKE A PRETEND MEAL.

JUST FOR TOTS AREA WELLBODY ACADEMY - Cafedium9

The Tots Area is a special area for small children. I can play here if I am less then 42 inches tall.

There is a music room and a slide.

There is water and special water toys to play with.

I can rest with my family in the house.

The Food Analyzer tells me about food. I can pick up a picture of a food. Then I put it in a slot next to the computer.

The computer will tell me about whether the food is a healthy or an unhealthy choice.

I can pretend I am making breakfast, lunch, dinner or a snack.

THERE ARE MANY THINGS TO SEE IN WELLBODY ACADEMY.

HERE IS WHERE I CAN MAKE FIGURES ON THE CEILING MOVE.

WELLBODY ACADEMY - Playdium

There are cyclists and swimmers high up that I can move.

I can pull on the ropes or squeeze the gold handles many times to make them move. I can look up to see them move.

If I think it is too hard, I can ask my family to help me pull on the rope or squeeze.

I can ask my family to go upstairs to see the figures move up close.

WELLBODY ACADEMY - The Loft

I can play with a computer upstairs. It will take my picture. Then I can see how making healthy or unhealthy choices will affect how I look when I become an adult.

My family can take pictures in the photo booth.

When the photos come out I can put them on the wall with other families photos to show how having fun can be healthy!

WELLBODY ACADEMY - Germnasium

SNEEZE WALLI can visit the Sneeze Wall. I will see someone’s face in a movie. Their face will be very big. I will pick a place to stand.

If I want to watch this from far away, that is okay. I can decide to come closer on another turn. If I stand close to the screen, I will get wet. If I stand very far away, I will stay dry.

PRACTICE WASHING HANDSI can practice washing away pretend germs from my hands with pretend water.

LIVE INSECT VILLAGE

At the entrance is a large grasshopper robot and a large talking robot beetle in a cage.

I can get up close or stay away from the pretend and real insects. Inside the red tent are several games that can teach me about insects. The lighting is dim.

I can look at naked mole rats. They are called naked because they have no fur! I can watch them make nests and walk in their tunnels.

There are insects and spiders in cages. On special days, Science Center staff will sometimes hold the insects and might let me gently touch them! There are large insect puzzles I can put together with my family and friends.

10ACKERLEY GALLERY

This area has lots of big toys and games to play with and touch.

It has a giant chess set.

It has smaller games to play that use my finger muscles.

PORTAL TO CURRENT RESEARCH

This room has displays showing what scientists who live in the Pacific Northwest are interested in and studying to learn more about in order to help our planet.

Each time I come here I will find different and exciting things to learn.

They could be studying volcanos, the ocean, outer space or even the jungle!

13TROPICAL BUTTERFLY HOUSE

The butterfly house has a special set of rules to protect the butterflies.

1. Leave food outside.

2. Listen to a Pacific Science Center employee before entering the Tropical Butterfly House.

3. Look but don’t touch the butterflies.

4. Look all around to make sure I do not step on any butterflies on the ground.

Sometimes, butterflies will land on people to rest. They are very light. I might not feel them, or they might tickle my skin a little.

If I want butterflies to land on me, I can wear bright colors and hold very still.

I can use the pictures to learn butterfly names.

BODY WORKS

This room has many things to touch and try.

I can ride a bike or do a pull-up. I can see and smell different things.

This room is noisy when the Science Center is busy.

We can go downstairs or outside to find a quieter space to take a break.

16PACIFIC SCIENCE CENTER STORE

This is the store inside the Science Center. The store sells science toys and science games. There are many things I can look at.

MOVIE THEATERS

There are two movie theaters at the Science Center with very large screens. My family needs to have tickets to see a movie. I should use the bathroom before my family goes into the movie theater. I may want to get my wiggles out before I go to watch a movie.

Once the movie starts, I can use my whisper voice.

Sometimes the movie will be in 3D. I will need to wear special glasses for 3D movies. I should put them on at the start of the movie. If I already wear glasses, I should put the 3D ones over the top of them.
