PowerPoint 3How Old Are You?
Teacher Notes
Introduce the question Quel âge as-tu? (How
old are you?) Click on the arrow or words to
listen to this. Ask children to suggest the
meaning of the question then ask them to
say how old the character pictured is to elicit
the reply cinq.
1
Teacher Notes
Click on cinq to hear this then click on the
character to hear him say J’ai cinq ans (I’m
five years old). Ask children to work out what
this means.
2
Teacher Notes
Ask the question to the class and they
chorus the reply J’ai cinq ans. Repeat this
with the other characters over the next set of
slides.
3
Teacher Notes
Put children into groups of six. Give the first
child in a group a card with the question
Quel âge as-tu? on. They have to respond
with J’ai cinq ans (or some children may
respond by giving the number only) and then
they pass the card on to the next child who
responds with J’ai six ans and so on.
4
Teacher Notes
Now ask children to practise a question-and-
answer dialogue in pairs. After they have
practised, ask if any pair would like to
perform their dialogue for the class. Remind
the class that they can use Et toi? to ask a
question back to someone. Write this on the
board.
5
Teacher Notes
Children will now practise how to say other
people’s ages. Click on the character to hear
him say his age then ask about him Quel
âge a Pascal? See if the class can work out
what
this means. Click on the speech bubble to
listen to this.
6
Teacher Notes
Click on A and B to listen to the two possible
answers Il a cinq ans (He is five years old)
and Il a sept ans (He is seven years old).
Ask children to work out what these mean
and then ask them which is the correct
answer. Click the mouse button to see.
7
Teacher Notes
Say to the class that you are now talking
about a female character so you would say
Elle a . . . ans (She is . . . years old). Repeat
the same process as with the previous slide
then do the same for the next set of slides.
8
Teacher Notes
Ask individual children Quel âge as-tu? and
after they have given an answer, ask other
children about that child Quel âge a … ? and
see if they can work out an answer using this
slide as a visual aid. You could ask children
to write some of the answers on the board.
