Daylight is in our DNAEverything we do at Skylux revolves around daylight. Our mission is, and has always been, to bring as much of this wonderful free resource to as many people as possible.

Our founder, Albert Glorieux, was passionate about daylight. His motto was ‘The more sun, the more joy’, and he set up his glass and mirror business determined to bring as much light as possible into people’s homes and workplaces. After many experiments, trials, improvements and perseverance, the time had finally come. In 1971, we produced our first skylight in polyester. A milestone.

Today, nearly 50 years after Albert started the business, our skylights are known across Europe for their quality, style and durability. Jean Glorieux is the third generation, carrying on the vision of his father and grandfather and bringing his own energy and ideas.

We continue to develop exciting new products, such as the high-quality and secure roof windows for sloping roofs. The insect screen mounted on the outside provides a unique feature: it blocks mosquitos and other insects as well as leaves and even pollen.

Our dedication to delivering daylight continues. It’s in our DNA, and it always will be.

The difference with classic roof windowsThe major flaw in traditional skylight design is that they generally open from the bottom which is incredibly dangerous on two fronts: The unsafe mechanisms are an open invitation for children to climb out and for thieves to climb in – two things that nobody wants.

Effective protection against home invaders Skylux’s roof window comes with a burglar-proof and SKG-approved lock system. This window offers complete security and peace of mind.• The window comes with a

4-point locking system (for sizes starting from 94 cm wide).

• Smaller width sizes benefit from a 3-point locking in different ventilation positions.

• All windows are resistant to wind gusts.

A PVC spacer connects these two elements, creating an incredibly strong and durable design. The result is a window that resists even the worst winter weather. Our roof windows enable you to protect your home from extreme heat, cold and noise, maintaining your home as the sanctuary that you want it to be. Skylux’s high-efficiency glazing is designed to insulate and to defend. Our distinctive PVC bridge between the aluminium and wooden components provides a further shield against extreme weather.

The difference with classic roof windows• With most classic roof windows, the outer

frame comes into contact with the wood. This causes friction, wear and condensation on the aluminium and wood.

To complement the physical strength of the design, we also treat all of our windows to comply with the Qualicoat certificate, and our timber is FSC-certified.

Extruded aluminium profiles• Skylux’s aluminium profiles are ± 1.8 mm thick and powder coated in RAL colour

7021. The manufacturing process complies with Qualicoat certification and ensures that these profiles are both UV and hail resistant.

Thermal aluminium-wood connectionSkylux’s unique design ensures that the aluminium joinery never comes into contact with the wooden components. This creates a better insulated and noise-reducing window with no visible attachments on the external face. This design also prevents wood decay.

are made from premium, laminated, quarter-sawn larch. These components are cured with damp-proof and mould- resistant treatments before being primed and coated with maintenance-free paint in RAL 9010.

To simplify the skylight order in terms of dimensions, we have decided to work with a daylight size (B) and a roof opening (C) from now on.The specified dimensions in this rate are always the B dimension = the daylight size (the inner dimension/ light dimensions of both skylight, curb and frame) and given in cm, unless specified otherwise.

When refurbishing a skylight, the size of the existing skylight is mostly the point of reference.Please keep in mind that the overall size is 16 cm longer than the daylight size (size B + 16 cm = overall size) because there is a flange of 8 cm around the skylight.

Plastic skylightsOur plastic skylights are available in different materials and versions, so there are numerous possible combinations. Skylux can absolutely assure you: we have the skylight you are looking for.

• Choose the material: acrylic or polycarbonate• Choose the number of dome walls:

- single-, double-, 3-, 4- or 5-walled - 6-walled (super insulating EP dome)

Glass skylightsOur flat skylights with double or triple layered glass are the perfect combination of maximum light transmission, maximum thermic and sound insulation and a sleek design. They do not only look great, they also score high in every aspect.

Hybrid skylightOur hybrid skylight combines the unique features of both a glass and plastic skylight. This skylight is composed of a compact and insulating PVC frame and super insulating safety glass HR++. Hybrid skylights are sound- and burglar-proof, impact-resistant and they are completely airtight and watertight. The plastic skylight provides a useful self-cleaning effect.

1 Energy saving compared to a double-walled skylight

Acrylic skylights Acrylic glass (PMMA) is also called PLEXIGLAS®. This synthetic material is highly transparent and guarantees a bright daylight. The impact resistance of acrylic glass is 10 times higher than normal glass that is equally thick. Furthermore, acrylic glass is UV resistant, so there is no yellowing or loss of light transmission, even after many years.

Polycarbonate skylightsLooking for an unbreakable skylight? Then polycarbonate (PC) is the best choice. The impact-resistance of this synthetic material is 250 times higher than glass that is equally thick. That is why we call it an ‘armoured skylight‘. The polycarbonate that we use is UV resistant, so the skylight maintains its colour and light transmission.

PLASTIC SKYLIGHTS

Multi-walled skylightsDid you know that more than half of the skylights sold today are still double-walled? That is an astonishing figure, certainly if you know that double-walled skylights are far less insulating compared to multi-walled skylights.

Don’t think twiceWhich skylight should I choose? A question that often occurs on internet forums. People ask themselves if a double-walled skylight is sufficient for their building project. Skylux does not have to think twice: we advise the best insulation possible. The best solution is a 4- or 5-walled skylight, if the budget allows.

The more dome walls, the better the U valueFollowing versions are recommended, giving their U value: 4-walled (Ut = 1.28), 5-walled (Ut = 0.99), EP10 (Ut = 1.30) plastic skylights. The new glass skylights iWindow2, iWindow3 and iDome (Flex) have an even better result of course.

Super insulating EP skylightEP stands for Energy Profit. With the EP skylights, Skylux offers a solution for buildings with high insulation demands. The 6-walled Skylux EP10 skylight reaches an insulation value of 1.3 W/m2K. EP skylights offer a suitable alternative in energy-passive buildings.

Heatstop skylightThe polycarbonate Heatstop skylight is heat-resistant thanks to the Heatstop coating, which filters out infrared rays from the sun. This reduces the heating (caused by infrared rays) under the skylight to a minimum. The polycarbonate Heatstop skylights are burglar-proof because their impact-resistance is 250 times higher than glass that is equally thick.

iWindowThe Skylux iWindow skylight excels in insulation thanks to a compact, insulating PVC frame and super insulating safety glass (HR++ with an Ug-value of 1.0 W/m²K or HR+++ with an Ug-value of 0.5 W/m²K). You save between 63 % (HR++) and 81 % (HR+++) of energy in comparison to a classic double-walled plastic skylight. Additionally, the iWindow offers a sleek look, an excellent soundproofing of 39 dB and a maximum light transmission. A total package that makes the iWindow glass skylight a must-have for your product portfolio.

iDomeThe Skylux iDome is composed of a compact, insulating PVC frame and super insulating glass HR++. ModelThe PVC curb is the basis for a fixed or openable plastic skylight, a hybrid or a glass skylight. The opening system can be controlled manually or electrically for comfort ventilation. PVC curbs are also used for smoke extraction systems (Smoke and Heat Extraction) that can be controlled electrically or pneumatically.

An openable PVC curb (for ventilation) is provided with hinges and a standard PVC frame. You can also choose to install the insulating PVC frame EP or the super insulating PVC frame EP25. The skylight is installed on this structure.

CERTIFICATIONS: Skylux has CE marking in accordance with EN 1873:2014. Certain PVC curbs are CE certified and so form a compliant component of the Smoke and Heat Extraction systems in accordance with EN12101-2 and NBN S21-208-1 and 3.Fire certificate: European classification E (EN 11925-2) and class M1

Types

1. Traditional application

PVC curb 16/20 EP

The 16/20 EP curb with an inventive interior structure is super-insulating. This curb is exceptionally strong and offers excellent performance for all traditional applications. With the lining groove, you connect the ceiling finish seamlessly: allow 4 cm extra roof opening for this. A 16/20 PVC curb with daylight size B of 100 x 100 cm has a roof opening C of 120 x 120 cm if you make no use of the lining groove. Allow for a roof opening of 124 x 124 cm if you do make use of it.

2. Ideal for renovations

PVC curb 16/00

The 16/00 curb provides the ideal solution when replacing vertical timber or metal curbs.

In a PVC 16/00 curb, a Skymax SHEV or Skylux 160° CE system can be provided, as long as a total curb height of at least 30 cm is respected.

PVC curb 30/20

Thanks to its height of 30 cm, the 30/20 curb offers the possibility of incorporating a package of roof insulation.The curb has also been specially designed to comply with the 30 cm minimum height of the smoke and heat extraction systems without extra carpentry. In a PVC 30/20 curb, a CE certified Skymax SHEV or Skylux 160° CE system can be provided in the vertical zone of the curb.

PVC curb 35/30

A curb that’s easily installed over an existing curb. The height of the vertical part below measures 150 mm, which is ideal for insulation.An extra wide lower flange of 150 mm is offered as an option. This lower flange increases the supporting surface and the possibilities to fix the curb.A CE compliant SHE system, Skylux 160° CE, can be provided in the vertical part of the PVC 35/30 curb.

3. Super-insulating solution

PVC curb 20/00 EP (with bottom flange)and 20/00 EP-S (without bottom flange)

By installing the 20/00 EP-S curb on top of the 20/00 EP or another curb, you can define the height yourself, for instance depending on the insulation thickness on the roof. The PVC that is exposed to the outdoor environment is UV stabilised and of impact-resistant frame quality.

With the lining groove, you connect the ceiling finish seamlessly: allow 4 cm extra roof opening for this.A 20/00 EP PVC curb and a 20/00 EP-S curb with a 100 x 100 cm B daylight size has a 100 x 100 cm C roof opening if you make no use of the lining groove. Allow for a structural opening of 104 x 104 cm if you do make use of it.

The 20/00 EP curb is provided with an anodised aluminium profile (flashing profile) with 4 plastic (ASA) corner profiles. Depending on the curb size, the aluminium profile is attached with stainless steel self-tapping screws. This allows you to easily pull up the roofing.

ModelA polyester curb for ventilation is fitted with hinges and a frame of your choice (the standard PVC frame, the insulating PVC EP frame or the super-insulating PVC EP25 frame). A round polyester frame can be used for round curbs. The skylight is installed on this structure.

CERTIFICATIONS: Skylux has CE marking in accordance with EN 1873:2014. Certain polyester curbs are CE certified and so form a compliant component of the Smoke and Heat Extraction systems in accordance with EN12101-2 and NBN S21 -208-1 and -3.Fire certificate: European classification E (EN 11925-2)

Types

Polyester curb Benelux model

The BENELUX model (PO 15/25), the standard polyester curb has a difference of 25 cm from daylight to roof opening. The fixed height is 15 cm.They are available in square, rectangular or round models.

Polyester curb German model

The “GERMAN” polyester curbs are available in splayed, round and vertical models. These curbs have a better insulation value than the Benelux models.

CURBS

The splayed model has a difference of 20 cm from daylight size to roof opening and is available in three heights: 15 cm (PO 15/20), 30 cm (PO 30/20) and 50 cm (PO 50/20).The 30 cm curbs are available with different insulation thicknesses, whereby PO30/20 EP60 and PO30/20 EP 100 are super insulating. These curbs are provided on the outside with a 60 or 100 mm thick additional encased PUR insulation.

The vertical curbs are available in 2 heights: 30 cm (PO 30/00) and 50 cm (PO 50/00).

ModelThe metal curb can be fitted with a fixed or openable plastic skylight. The opening system can be controlled manually or electrically for comfort ventilation. Metal curbs are also used for smoke extraction systems (SHEV) that can be controlled electrically or pneumatically.

Types

The square and rectangular metal curbs are provided with insulation, and are available in two models:• The standard model is provided with 40 mm rockwool insulation (U value: 0.84 W/m².K).• The EP model is provided with 50 mm PUR insulation (U value: 0.51 W/m².K).

The insulation comes with a bituminised glass fleece for fitting to the roof covering. The curb flange can, if necessary, provide a limited thermal bridge. The round curbs are not insulated. Round polyester curbs may offer an alternative here.

From a height of 25 cm and a daylight size of 80 x 80 cm, the square and rectangular curbs can also be fitted with a ventilation grid on one or more sides. The square and rectangular metal curbs can be provided with a welded-in anti-burglary grid.

Ventilation framesTo install a skylight quickly and easily, we have developed a pre-mounted insulating PVC frame that is attached to the curb with stainless hinges. No more drilling, measuring or adjusting. Just screw on the skylight and you will have a nice and neat result. The operating system is also pre-mounted: a manual or electric spindle for inaccessible places or for more comfort.

Ventilation framesPVC frames PVC frames are used for assembling openable skylights. These PVC frames have the important advantage that they insulate properly, thereby significantly reducing the chance of condensation.The PVC frames have built-in metal reinforcement profiles. This enables brackets and any other assembly components to be firmly secured to the frame.The top hinges are pre-mounted. The other accessories, such as the assembly kit with bottom hinges and the opening system, are not included in the price of the frame and must be ordered separately 95-96).The Skylux PVC frames have a co-extruded wind and rain seal. When closing the frame, the seal is properly pressed against the curb. This closes everything off completely.The PVC frames need no further finish.

Round polyester frames Round polyester frames – that are pre-mounted – are used to assemble round openable skylights and are suitable for round polyester or metal curbs. Polyester round frames are insulating. For opening systems, there is a choice between a manual or an electric spindle. For round skylights, a chain driven actuator and roof access are not possible. The other accessories, such as the assembly kit with bottom hinges and opening system, are not included (page 95-96).

Roof access skylightsThe pre-assembled Skylux roof access skylight provides access to the roof or the rooftop terrace, and is also suitable for ventilation. At the same time, maximum use is made of the access opening (free opening up to 3.12 m2).There are two models: the manual and the electric roof access skylight, both of which are pre-assembled units consisting of a Skylux curb and a standard PVC frame.

Electric screenThe Skylux electric screen is available as an insect screen, a sunblind or a blackout blind for both fixed and openable flat roof windows and plastic skylights.In case of a fixed system, the screen can be installed in the daylight size of the curb. The system is controlled by a wireless module that can be clicked behind a switch. There’s no need for extra cables between the switch and screen, enabling an easy installation of the screen.The electrically powered version is connected to the mains electricity supply. A 230 V power supply is

therefore needed where the flat roof window or skylight will be installed. If a 230 V power supply is not possible, the Solar version can be used instead.In case of an openable system, the electric screen is already pre-mounted in the daylight size of the Skylux 20/00 curb. It comes with a remote control that also allows you to open/close the skylight and control the LED lighting. A pre-mounted electric screen on solar energy is not yet available in openable systems.If you want to order an electric screen for your openable flat roof window afterwards, you can choose both the 230 volt and the Solar version. Please keep mind that the skylight (opening and closing) and the LED lighting are controlled by a remote control and the electric screen with a switch.

If you choose an openable plastic skylight with a manual or an electric spindle or if you work with a mounted actuator on a low frame, then you need to install the – 230 volt version – in the roof opening. The Solar version is not recommended in this case.

Insect screen for plastic skylightsThe insect screen allows you to open the skylight and let air in, without letting insects in! The harmonica-shaped insect screen, incorporated in the skylight window (only PVC) is invisible when the skylight is closed. The insect screen is not suitable for round skylights, roof access skylights, SHE skylights, glass skylights or hybrid skylights.

The Skycom CE, Skycom CE Slave & Skycom CE Skymax central control units meet the demands of the norm EN 12.101-9 and 12.101-10.

Skycom CE & Skymax control unitsThe Skymax CE and the Skylux® 160° CE skylights are operated by a Skycom Master CE control unit and one or more Skycom Slave CE control units. The Master control unit with operation on the front panel is specially designed for these SHE systems. It’s provided with different connection possibilities. The control units have an autonomy of at least 72 hours thanks to the built-in batteries. The electronic micro components save energy and make sure all functions can be found in one compact casing. Installation is quick and easy and there is a safety system against wiring mistakes. Cables and batteries are constantly monitored. The number of Skycom Masters CE and Skycom Slaves CE is calculated per project.Skylux offers 3 types of control units:• Skycom CE Master (art. 30975) This base control unit has an integrated operation. The maximum output current is 8 A.• Skycom CE Slave (art. 30977) This extension control unit is combined with the Skycom CE Master. Each Skycom CE Slave is provided

with an integrated temperature sensor in case positive safety (fail safe) is required (NBN S 21-208.1). In some regions, fail safe is not required and the settings can be adjusted to meet the local demands.

This control unit is only suitable for the Skymax CE. It’s always combined with one external priority switch for the Skycom CE Skymax (art. 32569).

Priority switchThe priority switch has been developed for the Skycom CE control unit, to operate the smoke and heat extraction systems. The switch overrides the control unit alarm so that the smoke-hatch skylights can be opened or closed by the firemen.

It is advisable to install this switch if the Skycom CE control unit cannot be installed in the entrance hall of a building. Thanks to the presence of a priority switch in the entrance hall, firemen can easily operate the SHE system.The technical facilities room is recommended as an alternative location for the control unit.

Wind and rain detectionConsisting of a wind wheel and a rain sensor, the wind and rain detector alerts the Skycom CE control unit which then closes the SHE skylight(s). The rain detector must be installed in an inclined position in order for the rainwater to drain away. The sensor is equipped with a relay with ‘potential free contact’. The operation of the wind and rain sensor is controlled by the Skycom CE unit. This means that if the skylight has closed due to rain, a fire alarm will cause the control unit to override the sensor and open the skylight.

Temperature detectionIf the temperature of the interior exceeds 75°C, the alarm of the Skycom CE Master control unit will be triggered and it will automatically open the SHE system.

This external temperature sensor must be fixed horizontally at the bottom of the finished roof.



Ventilation push buttonThis open/close switch is used to manually operate a 24 V smoke and heat extraction system.

The switch is delivered with a box to use for the installation. Be sure to put the springs behind both fire push buttons. Dimensions: 65 x 65 x 45 mm (width x height x depth).

Smoke detectorThe smoke detector has been developed for the Skycom CE control unit and is used to operate the smoke and heat extraction systems.

This sensor must be fixed horizontally, at the bottom of the finished roof.

Fire push buttonThe fire push button has been developed for the Skycom CE control unit, which is used to operate the smoke and heat extraction systems.

To trigger the alarm and activate the SHE system, you must break the glass and push the red button.

To test the system, simply open the hatch and press the red button.

Maintenance tips for your Skylux skylight

Acrylic glass has a self-cleaning effect and requires little maintenance. Please do not use any cleaning products or solvents because they can damage the skylight. We advise using the Skylux-cleaner for the maintenance of your plastic skylight and the PVC-cleaner for the PVC frames and curbs.

Make your skylight last even longer thanks to these tips:• The skylight attachments and the sealing tape must be

checked once a year.• Clean the skylight only with water and non-aggressive soap

and rinse thoroughly with water after cleaning.• Please do not clean the skylights with products that are not

suited for acrylic or polycarbonate. For example: no abrasives or aggressive products like silicone, wood protection products, adhesives, unsuitable sealing

tape, chemical fumes, etc. These products can cause damage and will result into the loss of guarantee.• Remove tar stains only with turpentine and rinse thoroughly with water.• In case of scratches: please contact the supplier and ask for a suitable polishing product.• Do not use any insecticides on the skylight.• Metal and polyester curbs must be provided with an extra finish.
