Prez having consultations with legal luminaries

NEW DELHI, May 13:

President Pranab Mukherjeehas held consultations with legalluminaries and constitutionalexperts on the course to followif the Lok Sabha elections throwup hung verdict.

Fali Nariman, Soli Sorabjeeand Solicitor General MohanParasaran were among otherswhose views were sought by thePresident last week.

The meetings, days ahead ofthe results, are being linked to theGovernment formation exercise inwhich the President will play apivotal role, especially if no party

or pre-poll alliance gets 272 seats.If a party or alliance get a

clear majority, the President'srole is limited to formally invit-ing that party/ alliance.

Counting of votes for all the543 Lok Sabha constituencieswill be taken up on Friday afterthe five-week long marathonelections to the 16th Lok Sabhadrew to a close yesterday.

Election results are tradition-ally presented to the President bythe Election Commission once thecounting exercise is over, whichtakes a day or two after the decla-ration of results.(PTI)
