Strong Tensile Strength

DSR Corp, the Korean shipbuilding and offshore rope maker, recently launched its innovative fibre rope, SuperMax78. The special fibre rope of Ultra-high-

molecular-weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) has stronger tensile strength and weighs less than an eighth of steel wire ropes of the same diameter. SuperMax78 is specially designed so that its life span and performance is not affected by a wide range of weather conditions. Recently, DSR was awarded a significant offshore project in Brazil where they provided

3,300t Minimum Breaking Load slings.

Metagro, the Dutch offshore cabin manufacturer, will enter their new production facility at the end of 2014. One of the key features will be their new high-tech, special coating equipment for smaller cabins. In order to maintain high flexibility, this will function as a separate division called Metagro Special Coatings. A further feature of the new facility is an increase in space to facilitate a capacity growth from 1,500 to approximately 3,500 cabins a year. This growth is required to keep up with fast growing demand worldwide. As well as producing according to certified procedures such as ISO 9606-1 and ISO 15614-1, Metagro is also fully compliant with the high standards of NORSOK, DNV 2.22 and EN 13852-1. During 2015 the company is expanding its existing certified procedures by including ISO 1090-1 and ISO 3834-2.

Gudrun Officially Opened< #0092875 - Gudrun officially opened - Photo Harald

Recently, Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg officially opened the Gudrun platform in the North Sea. This is the first new Statoil-operated platform on the Norwegian continental shelf (NCS) since Kristin in 2005. Gudrun is the first in a long line of new field developments operated by Statoil, and, therefore, it represents a new era on the NCS. The next in line is Valemon, which is scheduled for start-up later this year. Gina Krog and Johan Sverdrup on the Utsira High are next in the North Sea. Gudrun has been put on stream on time and below the cost estimate of the plan for development and operation (PDO). The global puzzle has helped keep the costs down. The development has demonstrated the strong competitiveness of the Norwegian supplier industry.

Falcon Helps Japan Harness Offshore Wind

After Japan’s 50 nuclear reactors closed following the Fukushima disaster, wind is now seen as an important alternative energy source. But, in a crowded and mountainous country, the search for sites must go offshore, with floating turbines the main option in the deep waters off the rugged coastline. Sure-footed anchorage to the seabed is vital in such a vulnerable environment and a Saab Seaeye Falcon ROV is being used to check the integrity of the 400m of chain to mooring points 100m down. The Falcon, operated by Shibuya Diving, helped monitor the anchor holding test, and the analysis of anchor drag, as well as twist and entanglement. With more offshore turbine installations planned, Shibuya Diving intend to develop a special work vessel from which to operate the Falcon.

Castings to World Markets

Stef Nas, Managing Director of SN Cast Iron, represents 25 years of practical and theoretical experience in steel and iron castings for the on- and offshore, dredging, wind force, energy, mining, cement, machine construction and metal industries. This variable expertise enables SN Cast Iron to serve a wide range of clients. It also offers clients the opportunity to meet their requirements by dealing with just one company in many cases. SN Cast Iron has a very wide range of castings, from 1 to 200,000kg and they take care of the complete engineering of the product to completion.

Ocean Installer has been awarded a contract for SURF support work in Brazil for Saipem. The contract which will see the Normand Clipper in Brazil for 8 months is valued at circa USD 50 million, with options to extend. Ocean Installer will support Saipem with their installation of multiple Steel Catenary Lazy Wave Risers, Free Standing Hybrid Risers and Export Pipelines for the Iracema and Pre-Salt projects in the Santos Basin Pre-Salt Area for Petrobras. The scope of work includes a wide range of services including survey, TDP monitoring, metrology, installation aid deployment/recovery and pre-commissioning. The Normand Clipper will be mobilising in October in the Gulf of Mexico before transiting to Brazil to start the work.

Dieseko Group Reinforces Its Position

Dieseko Group is acquiring PVE Piling & Drilling Rigs (PDR) from PVE Cranes in Oosterhout, the Netherlands. PDR is a supplier of pile cranes, drill cranes and hydraulic pile drivers. The company will continue to operate independently in Oosterhout, where assembly, repair & maintenance, service and sales activities are currently conducted. Dieseko, in turn, will offer additional production capacity, R&D and sales support from its base in Sliedrecht.

Semco Maritime Wins 3 Rig Projects

Semco Maritime entered into a strategic partnership with the Port of Cromarty Firth to establish a centre for rig upgrades at Invergordon in the UK. The first solid orders have now been awarded: In the course of the next months, Semco Maritime will complete various scopes of work on two Prospector Drilling jack-up rigs and the semisubmersible rig Songa Dee. Rig operator Prospector Drilling has chosen Semco Maritime to complete final installations at Prospector 5, a new state-of-the-art jack-up drilling rig. Prospector 5 will see follow-up installation of client supplied equipment for the rig’s first assignment. Moreover, minor installation work is to be performed on another Prospector Drilling rig.

Dong Energy Resumes Normal Production at Siri

Dong Energy has resumed production under normal conditions in the Siri area, after having used a temporary solution for over 6 months. The oil from Dong Energy’s North Sea fields is now sent directly to the oil tank under the Siri platform. Completion of the repair work has taken several years. Flemming Horn Nielsen of Dong Energy, said, “It’s a milestone that we’ve resumed producing to the oil tank… We were faced with a complex offshore project where we had to optimise the design and construction solutions on a regular basis. Throughout the period our employees have delivered a fantastic job.”
