THE HOTEL SHOW

SAUDI ARABIA 2014

Exhibitors at this year’s show can expect more than 3,000 visitors during

the three days at the Jeddah Centre for Forums & Events. The Hotel Show Saudi Arabia launched in 2012 gives suppliers the opportunity to meet with key buyers and decision makers across the hospitality market in the Kingdom. Networking and the chance to see some of the finest products for the hospitality industry make this a key event for 2014, which will be even bigger and conincides with huge investment by the government. ...The organiser dmg::events is known around the world for The Hotel Show Dubai in the UAE and it brings its expertise to Saudi Arabia for its second show in the country. The GCC hospitality market is forecast to grow at an annual rate of 8.1% to $28.3bn by 2016. In addition, tourist arrivals to Saudi Arabia are expected to grow 4% annually to 19 million in the same time frame, resulting in a hotel accommodation pipeline in excess of 26,500 rooms. With the majority of development activity taking place in the five-star category; the future of the hotel and hospitality industry within Saudi Arabia, could not be brighter. Christine Davidson, event director for The Hotel Show Saudi Arabia 2014, has seen increasing diversification from companies looking to capitalise on sector growth

She said: “We see companies looking for a platform where they can find out more about the latest products and services available to them in order to drive this growth forward. The Hotel Show Saudi Arabia brings global products and brands to a local audience, providing a unique opportunity for business and information mining.” Other core sectors expected to present opportunities in the Kingdom include travel retail and transportation, anticipated to see 22 and 21% growth respectively until 2017. Both Riyadh and Jeddah are currently in the top 10 cities for new hotel projects in the Middle East, representing 60 percent of the total number of projects in the Kingdom. This year’s edition will also include the participation of Samsung Electronics, which will showcase its full suite of hospitality products designed to enhance the hotel experience. “Saudi Arabia is an exciting market, and offers significant growth potential across all facets of its hospitality sector,” said JaeCheon Park, general manager, Samsung Electronics, Saudi Arabia. “At The Hotel Show Saudi Arabia, we will offer visitors a chance to experience Samsung’s full range of hospitality products, from stunning visual display technology and smooth, cloud-based operations systems that elevate industry standards and usher in the future of the sector.”

Airport expansions soar in the kingdom

KSA halts tourist visa programme Saudi Arabia has suspended its tourist visa programme, ac-cording to a report in The Wall Street Journal. Prince Sultan bin Salman, President of the Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA), made the announcement to the Jeddah Economic Forum earlier this year. He was quoted as saying that the Kingdom’s focus was on growing the domestic tourism market by targeting travellers who typically preferred to spend their holidays abroad.

Private sector to drive Saudi growth The private sector is seen as a major driver of economic growth this year in Saudi Arabia, ac-cording to a new International Monetary Fund report. IMF central bank governor Fa-had al-Mubarak said last month that the country’s economy can achieve growth of 4.4% in 2014.

East coast seaside resort’s $9bn boost Saudi Arabia will spend $9bn (SR34bn) developing a beach and new resort on its east coast into a tourism destination. Al Uqair is on the borders of Qatar and Bahrain and will be open in 2017, according to SCTA vice president Hamad Alsimaeel creating 37,700 full-time jobs. Mayor Fahad Al Jubair said Al Uqair had a unique environment, including beach, oases and desert, alongside cultural and historic sites.

Big Saudi plans for Jumeirah groupDubai-based hotelier the Jumei-rah Group is expecting to sign new hotel contracts in Saudi Arabia this year, its president and group CEO Gerald Lawless told Gulf Business. “We expect to be announcing a number of new management agreements in 2014,” he said. “Our big concentration for expansion really is in this region, the Middle East, and we are really keen to get into Saudi Arabia.”
