Prevention of Trafficking in Women and Children Project• Target groups: 1) Women and children in areas where trafficking has

reportedly had a high prevalence (Karonga, Nkhata Bay, Lilongwe, Dedza, Mchinji, Nkhotakota, Blantyre and Mulanje).

2) Street children in Blantyre and Lilongwe.3) Key personnel from FBO partners.4) Religious leaders from all denominations in Malawi.

Some notable achievements with partners

1. Micro-credit for poor families has been disbursed2. Identifying children at ‘high risk’ on the streets of BT

and Lilongwe 3. Village vigilance committees have been formed4. Participated in the drafting of the trafficking in persons

bill5. Supported and participated the Ministry of women and

child development in the activities of Day of the African Child on 16th June 2009

Recommendations...

• Continuous National NGO Consultative Conferences or dialogue meetings – identify common concerns, objectives to prevent TIP, develop an action plan and framework for cooperation and coordination

• Set up a National NGO Coordination Forum to prevent trafficking in persons...

• Objectives – share experiences, network, faciliate joint actions, referal protocols, strategic interventions and participation in governmental processes and forums.

• AND advocate for the speedy enactment of the trafficking in persons bill into law.
