“10 Reasons: Importance of Standing Poses in the

Iyengar System”Friday, Aug. 29, 10:30am–12:30pm

Some traditions call the process of transforming consciousness - taming the mind - B.K.S. Iyengar calls it culturing the intelligence. Through the practice of yoga, our bodies usually become more fit, and we may enjoy better health. However, the ultimate aim of our yoga practice is to tame the mind, to culture the intelligence.

Therefore the standing poses are the foundation of the Iyengar System to proceed from conative action towards the cognitive observation, mental involment, intelectual reflection and self-witnessing. One has to change the attitude of the brain into a witness, and body into an actor keeping the intelligence of the heart present throughout.

Yoga Therapy & Recovery

“Embracing the Transformation of Healing”

Essential practice for neck, shoulderblades and

shoulders’Friday, Aug. 29, 4pm–6:30pmGuruji compares the human shoulderblades to the wings of the birds. The two wings are for flying higher and higher the shoulder blades are to stretch higher and higher. Therefore stretching the arms over the head is important. The shoulders may be stiff due to negligence or due to frozen shoulders or/and shoulder blades which are obstacles to the progress and practice of yoga.

What is our relationship to pain? Patanjali describes in the Yoga Sutras that the pain

can and must be avoided, so to be able to learn the cause of pain in the neck we need to observe the surrounding areas and

how they act upon the affected area/s. The evolution from pain to less pain and no pain

can be experience through Yoga.

$85 prepay by Aug. 10; $95 thereafter

“Hip Openers – Gate to Lightness and Luminosity”

Saturday , Aug. 30, 9am–11:30am We do our asana practice repeatedly to watch where the unattended dark spaces exist in the body and to find out how to reach these remote areas and think how to work to illuminate those dark spots.

If the house drainage system is blocked, we try within our means to clear it. In the same way, wrong imprints may be accumulating in the body,

which block the flow of intelligence. Let us use our energy with intellectual force and flush those parts

so that they are washed out and pave the way for the mind to feel those neglected areas in the body.

“Even for those who do not activate their muscles in the way they should be activated, through yogic means a sense of well-being arises in those muscles. Then they do derive the benefit of lightness in the bodyanf freshness in the mind. One should not be contented with this exhilaration. It is just like striking a matchstick to feel the arena of yoga. Later one has to light the lamp from the matchstick to brighten his mind and energy on correct alignment of body with its mind, mind with its intelligence and intelligence with the Self.”

B.K.S. Iyengar

$85 prepay by Aug. 10; $95 thereafter

YOGA TEACHING METHODOLOGY

“Basics of the Art and Science of Teaching Yoga”

Saturday , Aug. 30, 1:30–4pmThe objective of this workshop is to assess the accuracy of the transmission of physical detailed actions to students in order to begin to tap into the transformative essence of yoga.

One tends to take the “basics of teaching” for granted and in the process, simple things are often missed or not communicated in the correct perspective. It is important to review these basics time and again for the benefit of all concerned teachers so we do not forget how to guide our students. We will refresh some aspects such as:

• Organization and Programming of the Class

• Communication Skills

• Observation and Instructions

• Demonstrating while Teaching

• Practice and Teaching

• Yoga Therapy

As yoga is uni-interactive, Or auto-interactive. It involves the body teaching the body the body teaching the mind the mind teaching the body and

the mind teaching the mind. Thus, in yogic tuitions, the student is unique and teacher too is unique, ultimately rendering the student fit for “IN-TUITION”
