Description

The new 770 m Baldwin motorway bridge over the Connecticutriver at Saybrook and Old Lyne has been built using a newmethod of post-tensioned pre-cast segmental concrete

The system used an overhead gantry to transport and positionthe prefabricated segmental concrete sections amongst theheaviest and widest ever used for balanced cantilever con-struction The 2 hydraulic TIRAK T-3000 hoists were used forhandling the overhead gantry These large 3 tonne capacityhoists operated in both directions for achieving the necessaryto-and-fro movements to position the segments

The pulling effort was chec ked by 2 DYNAFOR load ind icatorswith remote display mounted in the c rane cabin

The 2 post-tensioning p latforms were lifted and lowered by 2x2TIRAK T-1000 machines reeved on 4 p arts of wire rope (photo

Description

The new 770 m Baldwin motorway bridge over the Connecticutriver at Saybrook and Old Lyne has been built using a newmethod of post-tensioned pre-cast segmental concrete

The system used an overhead gantry to transport and positionthe prefabricated segmental concrete sections amongst theheaviest and widest ever used for balanced cantilever con-struction The 2 hydraulic TIRAK T-3000 hoists were used forhandling the overhead gantry These large 3 tonne capacityhoists operated in both directions for achieving the necessaryto-and-fro movements to position the segments

The pulling effort was chec ked by 2 DYNAFOR load ind icatorswith remote display mounted in the c rane cabin

The 2 post-tensioning p latforms were lifted and lowered by 2x2TIRAK T-1000 machines reeved on 4 p arts of wire rope (photo

Description

The new 770 m Baldwin motorway bridge over the Connecticutriver at Saybrook and Old Lyne has been built using a newmethod of post-tensioned pre-cast segmental concrete

The system used an overhead gantry to transport and positionthe prefabricated segmental concrete sections amongst theheaviest and widest ever used for balanced cantilever con-struction The 2 hydraulic TIRAK T-3000 hoists were used forhandling the overhead gantry These large 3 tonne capacityhoists operated in both directions for achieving the necessaryto-and-fro movements to position the segments

Description

The new 770 m Baldwin motorway bridge over the Connecticutriver at Saybrook and Old Lyne has been built using a newmethod of post-tensioned pre-cast segmental concrete

The system used an overhead gantry to transport and positionthe prefabricated segmental concrete sections amongst theheaviest and widest ever used for balanced cantilever con-struction The 2 hydraulic TIRAK T-3000 hoists were used forhandling the overhead gantry These large 3 tonne capacityhoists operated in both directions for achieving the necessaryto-and-fro movements to position the segments

The pulling effort was chec ked by 2 DYNAFOR load ind icatorswith remote display mounted in the c rane cabin

The 2 post-tensioning p latforms were lifted and lowered by 2x2TIRAK T-1000 machines reeved on 4 p arts of wire rope (photo

for clinker material and 2 for homogenisation) to the new SUEZCEMENT COMPANY plant The silos are 76 m highAfter the tensioning the extra lengths of the ropes have to b ecut and to p revent corrosion a protective cement is injectedSolution The use of 4 supporting p latforms equipp ed with 4motorised TIRFORs which move up and down 4 ribs outsidethe silo wallThese platforms have 2 func tionsa) lifting personel and material up to the working level where

they can op erate simultaneously on the left and on the rightof each rib for the placement of the prestressing ropes andtensioning jacks

b) handling the tensioning jacks by means of 2 chain-blocks(250 kg capacity) which are suspended from a trolley
