In order for pressure equipment products such as check valves to be placed on the open market in the European Community, they must comply with this law, which became mandatory May 29, 2002. Due to the flexibility of the PED, some valves may require them to be CE marked while the identical valve, in another application, may not require a CE mark. Prior to ordering a PED valve, it must be classified using the PED Annex II Conformity Assessment Tables 6, 7, 8, & 9 (see tables below). Information necessary when using the tabl es are the valve size, pressure rating, media type (gas or l iquid), and the danger presented by the media (dangerous or nondangerous). Note when using the PED tables, Article 3 paragraph 3 of the PED is commonly referred to as Sound Engineering Practice (SEP). Please note Check-All® valves are not to be used as safety ac cessories as defined in the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED 97/23/EC). For further information on the PED refer to the European Commission’s PED website at http://ec.europa.eu/enter prise/sectors/pressure- and-gas/documents/ped/ or consult the factory for assistance. For assistance with classifying the media as dangerous or nondangerous, refer to European Directive 67/548/EC “Classification, packaging, and labeling of dangerous substances” and any subsequent Directives amending it. If the ultimate destination of t his prod uct is t o the European Economic Union, please indicate this as such at the time of the inq uiry so the necessary arrangements can be made.

NON-PED Valves

Some valve styles or valves used at certain operating conditions do not fall under the scope of the PED. These valves aresupplied as “NON-PED” valves.

Due to the unique “insert” design of our 3S, SC, CB, TC, SI, & UV style check valves, they do not constitute an “identifiablpressure bearing housing” as defined in PED Guideline 1/8. These styles must be installed into either ferrules or fittings tocreate a pressure-bearing housing. Instead, they are classified as “components of pressure equipment” as defined in PEDGuideline 1/8. As a result, theses valves can be sold in the European Community and no CE Mark is required.

In addition applications where the maximum allowed operating pressure is 0.5 bar (7.2 psi) or less, do not fall under the PEregardless of the valve style.
