The Grandes Semaines of the SHF 2021

After a turbulent start to the year due to the health crisis and worsened by the Rhinopneumonia (Equine Influenza) epidemic, the competition season was able to resume as normal in May. Planned show dates flew out the window, as many competitions were cancelled, or postponed and the preparation timetable for the horses was rescheduled many times.Despite all these hurdles, the French Equine Society (SHF), the mother-society of young sport horses and ponies, is delighted to welcome you again to its national finals in six disciplines: Show Jumping, Eventing, Dressage, Carriage Driving, Endurance, Hunter Style. In 2021, the Championships have resumed their place over the Grandes Semaines and we cannot wait to reward the new French Champions in each age category.

The Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau

Once again this year, the renowned Grand Parquet Equestrian Stadium is hosting the 39th Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau with its superb facilities. Completely renovated this winter, the Carrière des Princes arena has become the epicenter for the SHF Finals. The exhibitors village has been completely redesigned around this large and beautiful arena.

We are expecting thousands of equine enthusiasts, professionals and amateurs to celebrate French breeding with us over the 9 days of competition, including 21 finals. Around 1700 young horses aged 4 to 7 come and compete in one of the SHF’s show jumping or hunter style finals. Whether it be the Cycle Libre (1st to 3rd year), the Cycle Classique (4 to 6 year olds) or the Hunter Style (horses and ponies aged 4 to 6), all have proven their worth on the SHF circuit throughout this season.

The Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau is a culmination of a year’s work for the horse and its team, who have high hopes for this final.

Designed as a training opportunity for young sport horses, this circuit is also a promotion and marketing aid for many professionals. This great breeding celebration organised by the SHF has established itself as an essential stepping stone for all horses intended for show jumping or hunter style competition. Every year, breeders, dealers and riders meet at the Grand Parquet to present the best horses of each age category and promote them for future marketing, or to improve genetics in the French breeding system.

The SHF-video platform will be following all events during these finals. This service, coupled with SHF market, oers a real support to the young French horse / pony market.

Rules & Regulationsmodifications 2021

In Cycle Classique Show Jumping, the rules and regulations modifications aect all age groups.

Several exemptions have been put into place for the 4 year old horses. The complete list can be found in the national Final regulations.

For the 5 year olds, the model test intended for horses belonging to the SF/AA/CSAN studbooks, usually organised at the final, has been moved to the CIR (Cycle Classique Inter-Regional Competition) to allow a better judging of the horses and taken into account for the calculation of the Championship. Another very important detail is that participation in the CIR is compulsory for any 5 year old horse participating in the National Final.

As for the 6 year olds, the founding of the Formation 4 event level allows horses to continue their training after reaching their quota of events in the 6 year old Qualifiers, or to alternate during the season if necessary.

Then, the participation quotas were compared to a normal year similar to 2019. Finally, the horses have the right to participate before the final in :• 4 year olds : 16 showing events of which 10 Qualifiers events maximum• 5 year olds : 24 ocial events of which 14 Qualifiers events maximum • 6 year olds : 28 ocial events of which 16 Qualifiers events maximum

Finally, in the Cycle Libre Show Jumping, the rules are set as in 2019. The only significant change is the layout of the Top 100 in the Qualifiers. It thus replaces the traditional qualification criteria allowing the Cycle Libre to follow the Cycle Classique qualification system.

In Hunter Style, the creation of the circuit for ponies should be noted in this 2021 season. For the second year in a row, the pony finals are taking place in Fontainebleau and this year, the ponies were able to qualify throughout the year in events intended for them.

The HunterStyle Finals

The Cycle Libre Hunter Style events are broken down by age category. This discipline consists of completing an obstacle course with the most fluidity possible. The jumping style, balance, gaits, pace, model and grooming of the horse is judged by the SHF jury. The final takes place for 4, 5 and 6 year old horses and ponies, as follows :

• The first event is made up of 2 successive rounds. • The second event is also made up of 2 rounds. The starting order takes place in reverse to the ranking of the 1st event.• Then an event in “model, distinction and aptitude for the discipline” for all horses and ponies.

The Cycle Classique circuit is open to 4, 5 and 6 year old horses. Each age category benefits from a round adapted to their level of competition in order to train and develop the new generations of sport horses.Once their entry ticket to Fontainebleau is obtained, the horses will still have to battle it out in the qualifying events ( not timed and without a jump-o). Only the best of each age category will have the chance to participate in the grand final and enter the championship standings. For the unqualified horses, a small final is organised.

7 year olds French Championship

For many years now, the Fédération Française d’Equitation (French Equestrian Federation) has entrusted the SHF with the organisation of the 7 year olds French Championship, which is included in the Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau. This Championship is open to the Top 200 7 year old horses on the qualifications list taken from the permanent classification of the 7 year olds Grand Prix. This qualification list classifies the 7 year old horses according to their performance in the first quarter of the Top 7 national and international events. The qualification list starts on 1st January 2021 and ends on Sunday 15th August 2021.The French Championship unfolds in 3 events including a 2 round final :

Thursday 2nd September : Jumps and Barème A course type, judged on Barème C*Barème A: all refusals, knocked poles, run-outs ,etc… is equal to 4 penalty points.*Barème C: all refusals, knocked poles, run-outs, etc… is equal to time penalty points.Saturday 4th September : Barème A not timed, without jump-o (speed 375 m/mn)Sunday 5th September : final in two rounds with Barème A, not timed (speed 375 m/mn)• 1st round: only the Top 40 couples can compete in the first round of the third stage, following the two previous stages. In the event of a tie for 40th place, all 40th ranked are selected. • 2nd round: it can take place on a shorter and higher course. The Top 20 competitors from the first two stages and the first round of the third stage are qualified for the second round (of the third stage). In the event of a tie for 20th place, all 20th ranked couples are se-lected. The couple having cumulated the fewest penalty points at the end of the classification of the three stages will be declared Champion. In the event of a tie for first, second and/or third place, the competi-tors participate in a jump-o against the clock. For information: a general extra classification, without bonus, will be carried out for the male horses.

The Cycle LibreShow Jumping Events

The Cycle Libre is intended for amateur riders who wish to educate their young horses on training courses taking place mainly at weekends. This formative cycle takes place over 3 years :

• Cycle Libre 1st year for 4 and 5 year old horses (CL1-4 et CL1-5) • Cycle Libre 2nd year for 5 and 6 year old horses (CL2-5 et CL2-6) • Cycle Libre 3rd year for 6 year old horses (CL3)

5 year old horses are allowed to compete in the Cycle Libre 1 Final as long as they have not participated in this category during their 4th year. 6 year old horses are allowed to compete in the Cycle Libre 2 Final as long as they have not competed for more than two years. However, “upgrading” is also an option. A 5 year old horse can compete in CL2 even if it has not competed in his 4th year or a 6 year old horse can compete in CL3 while it is only in its second year of competition. For 4 and 5 year old horses in their 1st year, the competition consists of two rounds. The first round, which is not timed, is added to a dressage and style score awarded by specialised SHF judges. The first third is then selected for the final while the other two thirds participate in the small final, both without time. The bonus points obtained during regional finals help to decide between the couples. They can obtain between 0.5 and 2 points depending on their results: 0.5 points for 4 penalty points and 1 point for a clear round, as the regional final is comprised of 2 rounds.

The 5 year old horses in their 2nd year compete in their final over three days with 3 rounds. The two qualifying events are done without time with a final for the first third ranked or a small-final for the remaining two-thirds, also without time. The two qualifying events serve as a guideline for the dressage and jumping scores, which awards two scores to the competitors and thus deciding who goes to the Grand Final on Sunday. The bonus points obtained during the regional final will undeniably play an important role in this ranking where each point is crucial to achieve victory.

6 year old horses in their 2nd and 3rd year compete over three days: two qualifying rounds then the final or the small final. The first round is contested without a set time and ranks all clear rounds in first place. The second round is against the clock, a tie-breaker for any tied couples. The final is run against the clock by the first third of ranked horses in the aggregate of the first and second rounds. The remaining two thirds take part in the small final, also against the clock.

The Breed Events

Since 2011, the SHF has been the mother society of breeding horses and ponies. It makes sure to bring together all participants of this industry to its 0-3 year old breeding and 4-6 year old valorisation. This is why each year La Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau organises important events for horses of all ages, from foals to 7 year olds. Thus, in parallel with the Classique Show Jumping and Hunter Style National Finals, you will also be able to attend:

The Selle Français Females Event

The Selle Français studbook will be present during the Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau, for the Females Event: the national final for future broodmares and competitors. Tuesday 31st August and Wednesday 1st September: the 2 and 3 year old fillies, selected from all over France, are presented in model-showing, gaits and free jump, along with criteria of their genetic value. In each age category, the mare with the best scores obtains the title Champion of France.

Au concours de l’Association Régionale des Eleveurs d’Ile de France (ADECSIF)

For many years, the Ile-de-France regional association, the ADECSIF, organises their regional foal competition during the Grande Semaine. The purpose of this competition is to judge and select pony and horse foals of all breeds under the age of 1. For breeders, Sunday 5th September is an opportunity to showcase their breeding, compare their products and discuss the dierent origins.

These highlights for French breeding allow the public to discover the hard work breeders have put into their young products as well as their 4 to 7 year olds.

Page 18: PressKit Fontainebleau2021 EN copie

The video service available to the breeding industry

In 2021, the SHF video service goes into its 5th year of existence. It has now become an essential tool for professionals in this industry. Since 2017, the platform has recorded 185 000 videos taken at SHF competitions…This season, despite the delayed start to competitions following the Rhinopneumonia (Equine Influenza) epidemic, more than 60 young horse events have been covered by SHF video. As always, the CIR Cycle Classique Show Jumping and the Grandes Semaines are broadcasted live on the shf-video.com web platform and mobile app.

During the Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau, all competition arenas will be broadcasted live. The SHF stand will allow everyone to see or review the rounds on the SHF video screens. Thanks to the giant screen positioned behind the new and improved Carrière des Princes arena, the live stream will be accessible to all visitors.

All the videos are available on the owners’ and riders’ SHF accounts, as well as on www.shf-video.com, via a subscription or unit purchase.

This marketing aid is one of the three missions carried out by the mother society. The SHF has set up the SHF-video service to complement the SHF-market service. The advertisements of young horses and ponies for sale are showcased with videos taken during the competition season. On site, the horses and ponies for sale will be highlighted during their round by a specific soundtrack.

Exhibitors Village and partners

The exhibitors village has been completely redesigned around the Carrière des Princes arena, epicenter of the Grand Parquet since its renovations at the start of the year. 70 exhibitors will make their way to Fontainebleau and be present throughout the Grande Semaine to showcase their products in all areas related to horse riding: tack shops, feed, transport, veterinary products, clothing, footwear, saddles, websites or studs… not to mention the numerous food vendors who are open all day long. Seeing as the Salon du Cheval in Paris was cancelled, the exhibitor village of the Grande Semaine de Fontainebleau will be the biggest organised in Ile-de-France this year.

The breeds and breeders associations are associated with the SHF and IFCE institutions and horse dealers. They can be found under the same large tent next to the Grand Parquet arena.

Despite this difficult period, our partners continue to trust in us and will be present during the prize givings for the Champions of each category. We would like to thank them all for their loyalty and we welcome with open arms all newcomers! Many of them are exhibitors, so don’t hesitate to come and say hello to them when you are down at the Grand Parquet!
