Themed around the London Olympics fever that had gripped the world for the past few weeks, the format of the event was a “Bug Hunting Sprint” of 30 minutes set amidst an evening of networking, beer and snacks followed by a scrumptious dinner. The application being tested was the website for a new location based social platform that enables conversations at any venue. This app was the winner of the title “ the most usable app” a prize that was sponsored by uTest at the Race for Apps. The 2012 Race for Apps held in London earlier this year, celebrated innovative mobile application developers challenging them to produce apps for visitors to the 2012 Olympic games. For more details on the Race for Apps, see our press release . This time the event had a new location, the Private Lounge at the Bangalore Golf Club; nearly 70 Testers attended the new venue, complimenting the informal atmosphere. There were the regular attendees from Moolya and Fiberlink and also teams from HP, Jamcracker and Collabera, there were also representatives from Oracle and OnMobile this time, who were welcome additions. The competition was fast and furious. While the judges were tallying the results, there was an open mike session where some of the testers showed off their singing and comic talent and one guy even demonstrated some cool Bollywood dance steps, dispelling the myth that testers don’t know how to have fun. The Jamcracker team made its grand debut at Zappers by winning the overall prize in the bug hunt, for logging the maximum number of valid defects. The prize for the “showstopper bug” went to the Fiberlink team, for a security defect they discovered, which they won only after some spirited debating with the Moolya team. Zappers Bangalore has managed to establish a solid reputation as a fun testing event for young testing professionals and we hope to have more such meetups in the coming months. If you would like to attend Zappers in the UK or in India, please register yourself at this link and signup for the next event on the calendar.
