Recently, Area H1 of Toastmasters International comprising of the Ipoh  Toastmast ers Club, YMCA of Ipoh Toastmast ers Club and the Taiping Toastmasters club held the Area H1 Humorous Speech and Evaluation contests at The Garden Villa. No.5 Jalan Dr. Nazrin Shah (Gopeng Road) The venue itself is a talking pi ece by itself. It used to belong to a Chines e tycoon in t he notorio us early 190 0's. It houses many a mys tery and sec ret. Among those present was Division Governor, Toastmast er May Cheah and Area H1 Governor, Toastmaster Cheah Tong Kim. 6 contestants were pitted against each other in the Humorous Speech contest another six in the Evaluation contest. In the Humorous Speech contest, there were lots of entertaining and lively presentations of speeches as all six contestants attempted to convey their message in a hilarious way. Among the topics were The Art of LEAVING and etc. In the Evaluation contest, six grandiose toastmasters tested their evaluation skills by evaluating a test speaker Gavelier Tarvinder Kaur, who is a member of the Gavel Club (junior Toastmasters Club) in SMK Gunung Rapat. This is the first time that in a Toastmast er’s Area Contest, a Gavelier ( Junior Toastmaster) was invited as a Test Speaker. Gavelier Tarvinder spoke wisely and charmingly about Malaysia in a different perspective. The six contestants evaluated her and were given 5 minutes to prepare their evaluation. The judges certainly had a tough time selecting the winners because everybody gave their best shot at winning the competitions. But after a while, the winners were selected. In the Humorous Speech Contest, Toastmaster Selvaraj from Ipoh  Toastmast ers Club won the first prize and he will be joined by the runner up,  Toastmast er Angie Ng from Taiping Toastmasters Club in the Division Level Contests. IN the Evaluation Contest, Toastmaster Helen Cheah from the YMCA Ipoh  Toastmasters Club made her club peers proud as she was crowned champion of Area H1 and will be joined by runner up, Toastmaster Selvaraj, from Ipoh  Toastmast ers Club in the Division Level Contest. Overall, it was an enthralling day with lots of laugh and entertainment. The fundamenta l aspect that made this event a success was the choice of and elegant venue, The Garden Villa and the quality level of the contest which was at a high standard, provided by all three toastmasters Clubs and the Gavel Club in Area H1 Now it’s time for us to look forward to the Division Level Contests which will be held in Ipoh, next month with Toastmaster s from Perak and Penang.

The venue itself is a talking piece by itself. It used to belong to a Chinesetycoon in the notorious early 1900's. It houses many a mystery and secret. Amongthose present was Division Governor, Toastmaster May Cheah and Area H1Governor, Toastmaster Cheah Tong Kim.
