Join the ‘eco-geek’ movement!

Available in November 2013Parrot Flower Power: the smart sensor watching over your plants!

Who hasn’t dreamed of receiving expert advice on growing tomato plants or other vegetables on a balcony, citrus in a living room, or gerbera daisies in a garden?

Designed to resist difficult climatic situations (rain, heat, frost…), Parrot Flower Power is a sensor to be “planted” close to a plant, indoor or outdoor, in a pot or in open ground. It precisely measures, in real time, the parameters that are crucial for the growth and good health of plants: soil moisture, fertilizer, ambient temperature and light intensity.

You can use as many Parrot Flower Power units as you have plants to be monitored. You can also associate several plants with a single sensor. In that case, as Parrot Flower Power measures the soil parameters in a perimeter of two to four inches around it, you need to ensure that the watering is homogeneous and that the conditions of soil drainage, sunlight/sunshine and temperature are the same for all plants, like in a window box for example.

Advice on your mobile device The data for each plant is stored in the flash memory of the Parrot Flower Power and regularly transferred via Bluetooth Smart2 to a mobile device equipped with the free Flower Power App. You will then be able to view your plants’ respective data and analysis easily on a single mobile device, receiving guidance in the maintenance of your plants or alerts for any action required.

Parrot Flower Power enables improved watering, fertilization, and notification if the location or plant exposure of your plants should be changed, providing

alerts in case of extreme temperatures or lack of light.

Parrot Flower Power App: it’s easy to have a green thumb…

Parrot Flower Power is accompanied by a free dedicated application, downloadable on AppStore.Very intuitive, it provides access to rich content and specific advice on the maintenance of plants.

2 Bluetooth Smart or Bluetooth Low Energy enables Bluetooth Smart Ready devices to communicate and to easily share data. This technology consumes low energy.

A botanical encyclopediaYou select the plant to be monitored from a library of more than 6000 plants, trees and vegetables (2000 species) informed by French, Dutch and American botanists. Then, you access to the plant’s fact sheet: origin, photos, needs and additional advice. Lavender, basil, geranium, tomato plant, ficus or olive tree… The Parrot Flower Power app knows the exact needs of your plants!

A garden 2.0When opening the application, the screen of your mobile device shows your “Garden,” including the list of all connected Parrot Flower Power sensors as well as the pictures of associated plants. You can very quickly visualize all your plants and their needs. An “agenda” lists all the tasks required that day and predictions for the coming days (watering, addition of fertilizer …).

Monitoring your plants’ needsEvery 15 minutes, Parrot Flower Power records the data that is important for the growth of the plant (soil moisture, fertilizer, light intensity and ambient temperature) and then, sends it to the associated mobile device when in close proximity (16 to 82 feet). Available in real time via graphs, data is transmitted to the ‘Parrot Cloud’ for analysis by algorithms3. This analysis enables you to know the condition of the plant and to receive short term predictions regarding necessary actions.Data is symbolized by icons, whose color varies depending on the situation: green: no action needed; red: immediate or non-completed action (in this case, an alert is sent to the

mobile device).

A scientific collaboration with universities and precision agriculture and horticulture specialists

Parrot works with prestigious universities and laboratories to make precision agriculture and horticulture accessible to everyone. Tests of one thousand plants were conducted in: the laboratories of Wageningen University in The Netherlands; the Center of Urban Horticulture at Washington University; the greenhouses of Agrocampus Ouest in Angers, France; Topager’s urban vegetable garden located on the roof of AgroParisTech

school.
