On October 27th, Fine Art Auctions Miami is pleased to present the fall auction of Design and Decorative

Arts including paintings and sculptures from the Collection of the Banco do Brasil. The preview will run

from Thursday October 23rd to Saturday 25th.

The sale is highlighted by the Collection of the Banco do Brasil which includes an important print series by

Paolo Soleri, Afro Basaldella ($3,000-$4,000) generally known for his single name AFRO, Giancarlo Isola,

and Alexander Liberman among others. An exceptional steel sculpture by Alexander Liberman is offered,

dated 1976 and estimated at $4,000-$6,000.

Paolo Soleri (1919-2013) will be opening the auction with a brilliant series of Bridges. He once stated:

"Given our ability and willingness to change the environment, we are now in a period of crisis. My position

with respect to this global problem now, is to reduce our questions, our pretensions, our destructive actions

on nature, our desire to overconsumption. Because I think that opulence consists not in having more, but

in having less.” This extraordinary series of Bridges represents a constant theme in Soleri’s work, where

he integrated functional spaces into structural elements in many of the bridge designs. A short

documentary will be screened during the previews days.

Following the successful results of Latin American art in our recent auctions, a deserved place is given to

major artists such as Jesús Rafael Soto, Wilfredo Lam (with a bronze sculpture realized in 1962 estimated

at $5,000-$7,000), Francisco Zuniga, Mariano Rodriguez, Naum Knop and others. The spotlight on Soto’s

work is obvious, with three sculptures being presented in this auction. Tiratura 45, dated 1966 is an

important work of oil and wood construction which is an edition 3 of 45, estimated at $15,000- $20,000.

Following Tiratura are two silkscreen and plexi works estimated at $8,000- $12,000, Ovalo en el Rojo is

dated to 1979 and Paralelas Vibrantes, 1970.

These three sculptures by Jesús Rafael Soto are of additional importance due to the major exhibition

currently on display at the Guggenheim in New York about the artistic movement ZERO. Soto pioneered

this movement in South America and shared the group’s aspiration to transform and redefine art in the

aftermath of World War II. Soto’s art oscillated between geometric and organic forms that combined a

vibration into the viewer’s eye.

FAAM is also offering a selection of Russian art with notable artists and painters such as Konstantin

Korovin and David Burliuk as well as three remarkable Pochoir drawings by Mikhail Larionov and Natalia

Goncharova, established artists who began designing for the Ballets Russes in 1915-1920. The costume

design drawings that will be auctioned are part of their portofolio: L’Art Décoratif Théâtral Moderne (Paris:

La Cible, 1919).

The sale brings together a wide variety of objects of Decorative Art and European furniture. The auction

is also highlighted by a series of rare and exceptional tables and lamps by Jean Royère (1902-1981), a key

figure of the Avant-garde in the 1950s and other masters like Diego and Alberto Giacometti with

picturesque lamps in bronze adorned with birds and other animals. The sale will also present Art Deco

statues from France and a pair of silk and wool tapestries from the early 19th Century.
