WESTSTAR GROUP LENDS HELPING HAND TO DOWN SYNDROME

COMMUNITY Persatuan Sindrom Down Perlis receives key to a brand new van

donated by Weststar Maxus Kuala Lumpur, 12 April 2012: Weststar Group today donated a brand new Weststar Maxus passenger van to the Persatuan Sindrom Down Negeri Perlis as part of their corporate social responsibility efforts. The van was handed over by Weststar Group Managing Director Tan Sri Syed Azman Syed Ibrahim and his Group Senior Vice-President Automotive Dato’ Nik Hamdan in a brief ceremony held at the Weststar Maxus showroom on Jalan Tun Razak. Receiving the van was YM Tengku Puan Laksamana Perlis Dato Paduka Datin Seri Sharifah Hishmah Shahabudin, patron of Persatuan Sindrom Down Perlis, together with Encik Wan Solahuddin bin Wan Chik, President of the association. “We are delighted at the generosity shown by Weststar Group. The van will go a long way in meeting our centre’s transportation needs. It is also welcome news for our staff, the children and their families,” said Tengku Puan Laksamana Perlis during the ceremony. Weststar Maxus has always taken its commitment towards supporting the community and those less fortunate seriously, and sees the move as a step forward in the company’s bid to play a bigger role in the betterment of society. “Giving back’ has been a key principle for Weststar, and we are humbled to play this role as best as we can. We hope that Persatuan Sindrom Down Perlis and those that they help will enjoy the benefits of having an additional mode of transport,” said Dato Nik Hamdan.

The van, which seats up 15 passengers comfortably, is a precursor to the new Weststar Maxus V80 van that will be launched next week at The 13th Defence Services Asia exhibition and conference held from 16-19 April 2012 at the Putra World Trade Centre. Down syndrome is a chromosomal disorder that affects one in every 660 children born in Malaysia and usually causes a delay in physical, intellectual and language development. Individuals with Down Syndrome can benefit from loving homes, early intervention, special education, appropriate medical care and positive public attitudes.
