Motorcycle Superstore rider Webb crowned'King of Motos'

JOHNSON VALLEY, Calif. (Feb. 3) - Motorcycle Superstore rider Cody Webb gutted out a major extremeenduro victory Sunday by winning the 2013 King of Motos. The rising star showed veteran savvy, using agentle touch on his bike as the race wound down in order to get it across the finish line first. "It was hard and definitely difficult but luckily I came out on top," Webb said. "I had a second surge of energylate in the race. My closest competitor got a flat tire with about 20 miles to go, and that gave me the opening Ineeded. "I had my bike geared for the desert so I passed him like he was standing still and didn't look back. I kept thethrottle pegged trying to build the biggest gap I could. Next thing I knew my tire started getting wishy-washybut I knew the finish was pretty close. I pushed as far as I could, then babied it in from there. It held togetherfor me." Webb, an accomplished trials and endurocross rider, conquered the grueling 160-mile course through theHammers in 4 hours, 50 minutes and 38 seconds. Second-place rider Graham Jarvis eventually crossed nearlyhalf an hour later with a 5:17:29. "This is one of the top-two toughest races I've ridden," Webb said. "Other one is in Italy where it's cold, slowpaced and icy. That one is pretty tough also; a different kind of tough. Out here in the desert it's hot, dusty,never-ending horrible terrain. "We had to make our way through a lot of rocky canyons with a lot of tough climbs. I battled with Grahamquite a lot. There wasn't any time to look at your lines, it was just 'go' and motoring through all the toughstuff." The race is unique as it features a "one rider, one bike" format, meaning no support staff was allowed. Eventhe prep work had to be done by Webb himself. "It's just you and your bike out there against the terrain," Webb said. "Luck definitely favors the prepared. After racing in it last year, I knew what I was going to be like. I took some precautions this year and had thebike set up perfectly. It worked out great for me." After a short break, Webb is back on the road for another running of that cold race in Italy, then he'll head tothe X-Games after that. "I race the Hell's Gate in Italy next, representing the United States once again, so it'll be a completeturnaround from the race in the desert," Webb said. "After that I'll get ready to represent the wholeMotorcycle Superstore squad at X-Games."

Bash shows the way at Big 6 Grand Prix, puts Motorcycle Superstore in winner's circle

TAFT, Calif. (Feb. 4) - Elizabeth Bash put Motorcycle-Superstore.com on the top of the podium Sunday inthe opening round of the Big 6 Grand Prix, winning the women's class at Honolulu Raceway Park with astrong ride that puts her into the championship lead. Jamie Lanza and Gary Sutherlin also had solid performances in their respective classes, with Lanza getting aneasy victory in 200cc Expert and Sutherlin taking third in Pro.Bash, who has been making the transition from motocross to off-roadracing in recent years, said she arrived at the event riding a wave ofgood vibes. "Coming in, I was pretty excited because I got to run the W1 plate,"she said. "I came in with a lot of confidence and I was really lookingforward to the start of the season." The race was challenging, Bash admitted, but she took advantage ofher MX background to propel her to the top of the podium. "I knew I had to get a good start and put some solid laps in early,"Bash said. "If I started fast, I knew I'd have no problems riding to thebest of my abilities the entire time. "The track had big motocross sections and I really enjoyed getting tothem. I'm not the greatest when it comes to the off-road technical stuff, but I knew this track had jumps and other motocross features thatsome of the other girls don't normally do. That was a big plus for mefor sure." Lanza, who also flew Motorcycle-Superstore.com colors during the weekend, had little trouble handling the200cc Expert class aboard his factory Husqvarna. "It came together fairly easily for me because there wasn't much competition in the class," Lanza said. "I gotthe holeshot and led start-to-finish both days. It was pretty uneventful except for the last lap on the second daywhen I had to ride the all the way around on a flat tire. Fortunately I had a big enough lead that it didn't hurtme. "The Dirt Diggers put together a really fun track. This track can get really rough and choppy in places but itwasn't too bad this time. It was pretty fast and I was able to move up through the pack when I needed to." Sutherlin was third in the Pro Class aboard his Zip-Ty Kawasaki KXF450. With their finishes all three ridersqualified for the Motorcycle-Superstore.com/Bell Helmet contingency bonus. Up next for Bash is a World Off-Road Championship Series event in Nevada this weekend, while Lanza saidhe probably won't race again until the second round of the Big 6 GP Series, which takes place next month atGlen Helen Raceway in Devore, Calif.

Lanza's double win highlights bigweekend for Motorcycle-Superstore.com

DEVORE, Calif. (March 4) - Motorcycle-Superstore.com rider Jamie Lanza was a double winner thisweekend at the Prairie Dogs GP at Glen Helen Raceway, Round 2 of the AMA Big 6 Grand Prix Series. Lanza won the 86-200cc LWT-II Expert and the WCGP 86-200cc Expert classes during the weekend aboardhis trusty Husqvarna cycle. With the wins, Lanza became eligible for the Motorcycle Superstore/Bell Helmetscontingency bonus. "It was a busy weekend but it went well," Lanza said. "My first race was the tougher of the two. I got a flattire on the first lap and had to go in and change it out." Also qualifying for the Motorcycle Superstore/Bell Helmets bonus were Eric Yorba, who won theHeavyweight Expert Class, and Elizabeth Bash, who finished third in Women's Expert. Lanza's biggest challenge came in the WCGP contest. He completed the first lap nearly a minute quicker thanthe second place rider but dropped all the way to third making his repairs in the pits. The determined rider returned to the lead before the end of the third of eight laps. He'd go on to complete therace in 1 hour, 44 minutes, 8.1 seconds, a little more than three minutes ahead of second-place finisher JesseVanhoy. "I had to work my way back to the lead on Saturday," Lanza said. "That race was more intense than theSunday race, which was uneventful for the most part. I got the holeshot and went from there." Lanza led the second race wire-to-wire, completing the four-lap event in 51:05, a little more than two minutesin front of the second-place ride. "Glen Helen is as close as I've got to a home track," he said. "It the closest of the Big 6 Series tracks to myhouse. The track was really high speed, which is different. It wasn't too chewed up. "The starts proved to be pretty important because there were a couple of sections of the course that werepretty dusty, and you want to get out front through those." Yorba also led wire-to-wire in the Heavyweight Expert race, finishing the nine-lap event in 1:48:37 aboard hisKTM. Bash was third in her race aboard her Kawasaki with a final time of 53:41 over four laps. Lanza said he's exploring his options for a next race, but he said he's definitely going after more MotorcycleSuperstore/Bell Helmet bonus money at the next Big 6 GP event which is April 6-7 in 29 Palms, Calif.

Jamie Lanza wins twice at Glen Helen.

RIVER RANCH, Fla. (March 13) - Andrew DeLong missed the first two GNCC races of 2012 recoveringfrom a broken collarbone and a collapsed lung, but still managed to win five times before the season was out. Now, with a full off-season of preparation under his belt, a new road-racing bicycle for training and a hungryattitude, DeLong seems poised for great things in 2013. That became abundantly clear Tuesday at WestgateRiver Ranch when DeLong won the XC2 Pro Lites class, registered a fifth-place overall finish and qualifiedfor a share of the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet bonus. "There were a lot of top guys out there, so it feels pretty good to win," DeLong said. "I'm starting the seasonnow and I'm excited to get to the next race. It feels like it's going to be a good year." DeLong completed the six-lap race aboard his Husqvarna in 2 hours, 57 minutes and 24.8 seconds. He saidthe track tested his fitness every lap. "The whole layout was really rough," DeLong said. "The endurance I had was steady, so I was able to keepthe same pace the whole time. I didn't fade at all. When everybody else was starting to get tired, I just keptgoing. "There really wasn't an easy spot on the track. It was all sand whoops and mudholes, so making it througheach lap was a big accomplishment." DeLong said he invested in a high quality road bicycle to help with his training, and that purchase has made ahuge difference. "I spent a pretty good amount of money on that bike," DeLong said. "I was hoping it would pay off. I startedriding it so much. I've been getting up to 30 to 50 miles a day. It feels like it's paid off and I'm happy I boughtit. "It makes me more hungry to go out and train to make myself better." Kacy Martinez and Maria Forsberg also finished on the podium at River Ranch in the Womens class and eachtook a share of the Motorcycle Superstore Bell Helmet contingency fund. Martinez finished second in her race, with a time of 2:02:44.2 over four laps on the course. Forsberg was thirdwith a final time of 2:03:44.2. It was a great result for Martinez as Forsberg won every event last season. The GNCC series gets right back into competition this weekend with The Maxxis General at Aonia Pass MXin Washington, Ga.

Rush gets things rolling in Daytonafor Motorcycle-Superstore.com

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 15) - Mikey Rush got the 2013 AMA Pro Flat Track presented by J&PCycles season off to a strong start Thursday with a late-race pass on his Machete Energy Honda to take theGrand National Championship class victory and a piece of the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmetbonus. "I love Daytona," Rush said. "I won here in my rookie year back in 2007 and that was a great feeling andtonight is every bit as good. Both Jared Mees and Brad Baker were on their game but I was patient andworked my way to the front." The night did require its fair share of patience after two red-flag stoppages in the first five laps with Rushlining up sixth on the final staggered start. The 25-year-old from Hollister, Calif., spent much of the middlesection of the race picking his way through the crowd before making a pass for the lead on Lap 19 of 25 andholding on for the win. "Brad made it extremely difficult for me tonight and I was lucky to make that pass late in the race andeventually stick it for the win," Rush said. "The feeling I have right now is incredible. I love competingagainst these guys." Jason Isennock overcame a balky bike in the Pro Singles to finish second in the main event. Isennock'smotorcycle didn't want to fire on the starting line in the main event, and it required some help from fellowcompetitor Mike Poe to get the motor going. A 26-year-old from Owings Mill, Md., Isennock shook of the strange start and ran a strong race, finishingsecond to Kyle Johnson with Poe running third. "Kyle ran a strong race from start to finish," Isennock said. "You can't take that away from him, but I'm gladto put the Superstore helmet up on the podium the first race out." Action continues Friday night in Daytona.

Mesa delivers in Daytona with victory in Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport class

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 15) - Colombia's Stefano Mesa outpaced nearly 60 other competitorsSaturday at Daytona International Speedway to win the season-opening race for the AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport series. "The bike felt awesome," Mesa said. "The team put together such a great bike for me." Mesa dueled in the draft all race long aboard his Motosport.com Yamaha and was able to hold off a pack ofsix bikes, which were ultimately separated by .274 second at the finish line. Dave Sadowski Jr. was second onhis Yamaha and Hayden Gillim was third riding the Team 95/RM Racing Yamaha. "I was leading going into the last lap so I backed it down going into Turn 1," Mesa said. "Somebody passedme, which was what I wanted. When we got to the banking at the end I made my move. This win feels good; Ihope have a lot more of them this year." It was Sadowski who had passed Mesa and he said he felt like a sitting duck being out front on the last lap asthe lead pack followed him into the back-stretch chicane. He knew someone would try to slingshot aroundhim when they re-entered the superspeedway, which is exactly what happened. "It was quite a wild race from my seat," Sadowski said. "I had a lot of moments there as it went along and Ididn't think I was even going to make it up to the lead group. I was up on the banking at one point and it feltlike they were slipping away. "But I got up there and ended up in the lead on the last lap, where is where you don't want to be. I slowed upin the chicane because I knew I couldn't be in the lead and still have a good chance at getting the win." Gillim won a photo finish for third with Matthew Sadowski with the final margin between the two bikes amere one-thousandth of a second. "I knew it was going to be a battle, that's Daytona," Gillim said. "I knew my bike was running fast, and Iknew if I could get into the draft early I could hang with the leaders. When it came down to those last coupleof laps, I knew I could at least get a podium and I was hoping I could get enough of a draft for the win. "Everybody started slowing down on the backstretch to set up for the last part of the race. I decided to go forand ran up into second or third a little early and the move paid off for me." Motorcycle Superstore Yamaha team rider Devon McDonough finished 12th in his season debut. The AMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport series gets right back at it on Saturday morning with asecond 10-lap event starting at 10 a.m. EDT from Daytona International Speedway. Puerta takes second Daytona race inMotorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport class

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 16) - For the second time is as many days, a rider from Colombia won theAMA Pro Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race at Daytona International Speedway. Tomas Puerta led six of 10 laps aboard his RoadRace Factory Racing Yamaha on Saturday to join countrymanStefano Masa as Daytona winners this weekend. "I was trying to think about being in the lead on the last lap of the chicane," Puerta said. "I changed my mindwith two laps to go. On the last lap I just put my head down and didn't care where everyone was at in thedraft. "I saw I had a little bit of a gap going through the horseshoe, and I just kept charging from there." Puerta made that lead hold up to the finish and increased the gap to a final margin of 1.03 seconds oversecond-place Charles Weaver and his Napa Auto Yamaha and 1.133 seconds over third-place Cory Alexanderand his National Guard Suzuki. "Everyone on the team is more confident than last year," Puerta said. "I'm hoping we can get a lot of wins thisyear." Weaver said his bike was working very well in the draft all race long. "It was kind of unexpected," Weaver said. "I was OK in warmup, but had a little spill and went into the grass. We gridded 13th and I just kept making my way forward. "Second-to-last lap I finally caught the lead group and drafted past most of them to get to second." The race was briefly red-flagged early on when a rider went off the track, which Alexander said worked to hisadvantage. "After the second start my bike was running great," Alexander said. "I made my way up from 11th, so I'mreally pumped to be on the podium after a rough start to the weekend. I'm really happy."

After winning in Florida earlier in the week, DeLongtraveled north to Georgia and won the Pro XC2 class at TheMaxxis General on a difficult track at Aonia Pass MX. "I thinkmy physical conditioning came into play again this weekend.I was able to keep the bike up on two wheels and not fall toomany times. That was key in taking this win. You have to getthrough the race and finish it to have a chance and if you'renot physically prepared for it, you're in trouble." DeLong finished the course in 3 hours, 1 minute and 3.062seconds, nearly 35 seconds ahead of the second-place riderGrant Baylor. Supercross star Zach Osborne was third, morethan two minutes behind DeLong. "I tried to get into a flow today but it was really hard,"DeLong said. "I made a point to try and save my energy forthe whole race. I felt good all the way to the end of the race, but when I got off the bike I was pretty whooped. It was ademanding track. "It's been a great week. I'm happy with the way the season is starting and I'm pleased with the way I've beenriding. Thanks to Motorcycle Superstore for their support. It helps a bunch." Pair of Motorcycle-Superstore.com ridersshare the lead in GNCC Women's class

WASHINGTON, Ga. (March 19) - A pair of Motorcycle-Superstore.com riders have started the season withback-to-back podium finishes and now Kacy Martinez and Maria Forsberg are tied atop the Women'schampionship standings with two GNCC races in the books. The riders are part of a three-way tie atop the Women's standings heading into a small break in the scheduleahead of the FMF Steele Creek event, April 6-7 in Morganton, N.C. Martinez has put together back-to-back runner-up finishes to start the season in her first year racing GNCCafter making the switch from the WORCS series. She said the GNCC format feels more natural to her, whichshe credits for her early success. "Coming over from the other series, I didn't really knowwhere I was going to stand," Martinez said. "I grew upracing hare scrambles, local two-hour races, which weresomething I really enjoyed. "The WORCS races are only an hour long, so I really wasn'tas comfortable with them because if you make even onesmall error, it's hard to catch back up. With GNCC, I've gotmore time to get collected. It's a little more forgiving." After spending so much time recently in hour-long races,Martinez said she found a preseason event in South Carolinato test her fitness level for her return to two-hour races. "I hadn't done a two-hour race in three or four years," shesaid. "When we got back East we wanted to find a two-hourrace to make sure we were ready for it. We found that race inSouth Carolina, and I won it, so I felt really good. It gave mea lot confidence before we started the season in Florida." Martinez said she's enjoyed the competition, especiallyagainst Forsberg in the second race of the season. "The first round, I didn't have many battles because I waspretty much riding by myself the whole race," Martinez said."The second round was a lot of fun. Maria and I wereswapping back and forth for a couple of laps. She ended up getting out front right when I got stuck behindsome lappers and she was able to pull away and take the win. "It was good. I was happy to take second and can't wait for the rest of the season." After sweeping the series in 2012, Forsberg started the year in Florida with a third-place finish and backed itup by winning at the The Maxxis General over the weekend. "We were on the track early in the day so it wasn't as chewed up as it got later on," Forsberg said. "It had afew mud holes in it, but I was able to find some quick lines through them." Forsberg said she's entered the season in tip-top shape, which she said helped her tremendously in Florida andGeorgia. "My cross-fit training has really helped me," she said. "I could really tell it this weekend. I had good energythrough the whole race."

Motorcycle-Superstore.com rewardsDeLong for first National Enduro title

BLACKWATER, Texas (March 25) - Andrew DeLong continued his recent hot streak with a big win Sundayat the 38th Concho National Enduro aboard his Fred Andrews Racing factory Husqvarna. This is the third time this young season DeLong has been to the top step of the podium and claim theMotorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet bonus. He previously won his class in the first two GNCC races ofthe season earlier this month. Sunday's victory was DeLong's first at a Rekluse AMA National Enduro. "I can't believe I won this weekend," DeLong said. "I'm just happy to have made it through the race and notget injured. I'm definitely happy with the end result." DeLong completed the course in 46 minutes, 35 seconds, just six second ahead of second-place rider RussellBobbitt. "The track was dusty and it had a lot of rocks," DeLong said. "It was very loose rock, so it felt like you wereskating the whole time. I never felt like I had a solid grip on the ground. "Then when we got to the larger rocks we were getting thrown around a little. Today was definitely aboutrunning a smart race and not pushing the limit." Knowing the limits of what his bike and the track will hold has been an important change DeLong has madeto his riding style. "Last year at this time I was on the sidelines with a broken collar bone and collapsed lung," DeLong said. "Imissed out on winning the GNCC championship last year because I sat out the first two races with injury. "This year I've been trying to let the races come to me, instead of just charging like I had always done tobefore. The different style of riding really helped me this weekend and I want to try and continue it to keepmy momentum flowing." DeLong said he's going to take a well-deserved break for a week before setting his sights on the April 6-7FMF Steele Creek in Morganton, N.C., the next stop in the GNCC series. "I haven't been home to California since Christmas," DeLong said. "I'm going to take some time to relax andsleep in my own bed for a week. After that I'll head back East and get ready for the GNCC in NorthCarolina."

"I was really hoping our sport would be invited to go global, because not every sport has been. Now we havethe stage to show off our talent worldwide and it's incredible recognition for our riders, our sport and oursponsors." "I think a lot of peopleare going to come check us out. I'm going to be way nervous to be in front of the crowds they are expecting, but it's going to be exciting and a lot of fun at the same time." Peronnard said he's been impressed with the way the athletes have worked together to make internationalracing a success. "We're going to take our circus on the road for four months," he said. "The riders have had to get all theirpaperwork finished and won't be able to see their bikes until the day of the races at these venues. "It's been an incredible undertaking for everyone but they've all trusted us and done all the we've asked tomake EnduroCross a big part of Global X-Games."

The men's and women's EnduroX event will be one of the first medal events at the Brazil X Games. ESPNand WatchESPN will carry the racing at 7 p.m. EDT Thursday, which is the first day of the X Games. "It's going to be an exciting weekend all the way around," Martinez said. "We're going to get to race in thissuper high-energy atmosphere. I'm pretty sure it's going to be unlike anything we've ever seen or experienced. Then we'll get to be fans ourselves in the days after without the stress of a race on our minds." Webb said the racing itself is going to be an unusual challenge as well. "There are a lot more variables at a race like this than at a regular EnduroCross event," Webb said. "For ourregular season races, you have been to a lot of these venues in the past, so you have a good idea of how wellthe dirt is going to hold up as the racing goes on. Here, it's a tropical location and you don't know howeverything is going to hold together. "It's a challenge that I'm excited to face and earning a medal from these X Games would be the ultimatesouvenir."

Webb, Forsberg score pair of X Games silvermedals for Motorcycle-Superstore.com

FOZ DU IGUCU, Brazil (April 16) - Motorcycle-Superstore.com Enduro X riders Cody Webb and MariaForsberg took home a pair of silver medals Thursday night in the opening event of Global X Games Brazil. Webb was runner-up in the men's competition and Forsberg struck silver in the women's event. The track in Brazil was unlike any seen during the regular EnduroCross season. This event was held outside,so the circuit was twice as big as a regular EnduroCross course. The biggest X-factor turned out to be the dirtitself, which held water and became slicker as each lap passed. "It was a pretty insane track tonight," Webb said. "I was in the first heat and the track really wasn't all thatbad. But by the time we got around to the main event there were spots on the track that felt like we wereriding on ice." Webb won his heat easily, but got a stiff challenge from Taddy Blazusiak in the main event. "Taddy and I had a great battle for a long time there," Webb said. "I had the fastest line thought the rockhairpin and he was better through some of the uphill sections, which kept us bar-to-bar during the first threeor four laps. I don't know how many times we swapped the lead." The slick racing surface eventually bit Webb in a big way on Lap 4 when, while in the lead, he came out of anobstacle, hit an especially shiny patch of dirt, lost the rear end of his bike and slid into the tuff blocks. "I had a nice gap on Taddy and then got the rug pulled out from under me," Webb said. "He got a big leadafter that and didn't make any big mistakes. I was gaining back on him but ran out of time. If the race were alap or two longer I think I might have tracked him down." Forsberg also enjoyed an early lead in the women's race, but she got hung up on a downhill obstacle whichallowed Spanish upstart Laia Sanz to pass her. "I was trying to push my bike over the bottom log, which was hard because everything was wet and footingwas difficult," she said. "I felt like I was close to getting going again, but another rider got stuck next to me,then fell on top of me. It killed my momentum and gave Sanz time to get away." Forsberg fell as far back as fourth before recovering and working her way back into silver medal position. "It breaks my run of gold medals at X Games," said Forsberg, who won the last two X Games. "Thankfully, with the Global X Games now, it's not my only chance at gold this year." Up next for Motorcycle Superstore Bell Helmet riders is the season opening race of the GEICO MotorcycleAMA Pro EnduroCross series season May 3 in Las Vegas. The next Global X Games stop will be May 16-19in Barcelona, Spain.

DeLong takes third trophy of the year for Motorcycle-Superstore.com

UNION, S.C. (April 22) - Andrew DeLong won his third GNCC event of the season Sunday at the Big BuckGNCC Nationals, but the FAR Husqvarna rider didn't take the easiest route to collecting his Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet bonus this time around. DeLong built a commanding lead in the XC2 class before a serious crash saw a cushion of nearly 90 secondsevaporate. "Thank goodness I'm with Motorcycle Superstore because my helmet needs a new visor. I smashed mine upon the get-off I had today," DeLong said. "I was rolling good, being smooth and everything. I took a differentline one lap and there must have been a stump buried by leaves or something and when I hit it I went flyingover the bars." The visor on his Bell helmet wasn't the only damage DeLong took in the fall. The rear fender was torn off andhis muffler was crushed like an empty can. "Everyone had a chance to close that gap on me, but I was able to finish the race and still build the lead backup a little before the end," DeLong said. "It was a tough day for me for sure." DeLong completed the seven laps of the 16-mile course in 2 hours, 48 minutes and 44 seconds. Second-placerider Grant Baylor finished in 2:49:01. "It turned out to be a good day," DeLong said. "There were some moments there when I wasn't sure if I'd getthe bike back out on the track but I did." DeLong padded his season lead in the XC2 standings to 21 points ahead of Baylor with a familiar stretch ofthe schedule coming his way. "The first few rounds of the year have always been tough one me," DeLong said. "The first stops are softerwith a lot of mud and I kind of like it where it's rocky and a lot more technical. "I was happy to make it through this race and I'm excited to get to Kentucky because it's rocky there." Next for DeLong is the May 4-5 Mammoth GNCC in Mammoth, Ky.

Globetrotters Forsberg and Martinez keep spotlight onMotorcycle-Superstore.com

UNION, S.C. (April 22) - Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet riders Maria Forsberg and Kacy Martinezweren't going to let 12-plus hours on a plane or a trip across the Equator interfere with their ongoing battle forthe GNCC championship. Both riders competed in the first Global X Games EnduroX race in Brazil last Thursday night, boarded flightsback to the states Friday morning, then were at the Big Buck GNCC Nationals by Sunday to resume theirfriendly rivalry. "My flight out was at 7:30 in the morning," Martinez said. "I flew all day and got to the Charlotte airport at 1a.m. on Saturday. We went to the track after we slept in a little and got all signed in." It took three planes and a 90-minute car ride to get Forsberg to the race. "It was pretty gnarly," Forsberg said. "An hour-and-a-half toSau Paulo, then eight hours to Miami, almost another twohours from Miami to Charlotte then an hour-and-a-half drive toUnion. "I felt pretty good for the race, but after the race on Sunday, Idefinitely hit my wall." Despite both riders dragging a little bit, Forsberg and Martinezdid not disappoint when the helmets went on. "I pulled off the win, but Kacy and I had quite the battlegoing," Forsberg said. "I was the best I had ever seen thatcourse because normally it is so dry. I got a good start and builta bit of a lead. It turned it into a trail ride, because Kacy andJessica Patterson caught up and passed me." At one point, Patterson struggled with an obstacle and fellback, which left Forsberg and Martinez swapping the leadthroughout the final stages of the race. "I was a little surprised about how good I felt racing,"Martinez said. "I went through the check third on the first lap, but came around in first the next lap. Later on, Ihad a crash with a lapper and that's when Maria passed me. "I caught back up and passed her and was really feeling good and thought today was going to be my day." Late in the race the pair came on to a mud hole on the track which had swallowed a lot of other riders, causing officials to re-route Martinez and Forsberg. "There were racers everywhere," Martinez said. "We came upon it real quick. A course worker had his back to me when Icame through first. He signed Maria to go another way. Iturned around real quick to follow her." Forsberg said she did see the official first and reacted quickly. "When they re-routed us, I was behind Kacy which gave me anadvantage," Forsberg said. "I was able to cut in and get aroundher. That was the last lap of the race. I got in front of somelappers in the tight section then tried to gap her as best as Icould." In the end, Forsberg crossed the line with a final time of 1hour, 50 minutes, 26 seconds with Martinez finishing in1:51.02. Forsberg leads Martinez by two points in thechampionship standings. "This was a big race for me," Martinez said. "I know I can be afrontrunner and compete with Maria head-to-head every racenow. If I put my work in, hopefully my next race will bebetter." The jet-setting ways aren't over for Forsberg and Martinez. Forsberg said she's already committed to racing inthe season opener for the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro EnduroCross series in Las Vegas on May 3 then headto Monmouth, Ky., on May 5 to race in the next GNCC race. Martinez said she's definitely on board for thenext GNCC race, but will try to pull the double as well if she can get a bike to Las Vegas.

Motorcycle-Superstore.com rider Yorba regains WORCSPro2 lead with third victory of the year

HURRICANE, Utah (April 22) -- Eric Yorba and Ty Tremaine took the top two spots in WORCS series Pro 2racing at Sand Hollow Park Sunday and earned Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet bonus awards in theprocess. Yorba won for the third time this year, this time on a course that was as tough mentally as it was physically. "The race went pretty well," Yorba said. "It was a really gnarly course. There were areas that were superrocky and then it would transition to sand. You had to stay focused or you'd go down." Yorba completed the five-lap race in 1 hour, 58 minutes and 14 seconds, but it was a roller-coaster to try andget to the front. "I got a third-place start, which was decent, but I had some issues early and dropped way back," Yorba said."Then I just started picking guys off. Riding with the Pro guys you can follow their lines at times, whichreally helps. "I rode behind Robbie (Bell) for quite a while but then we all kind of got separated so I was just doing myown thing, trying to survive." Tremaine came into the race fired-up and looking for the win. He finished with a time of 2:01:32. "I won the 450A race Saturday, so I was really excited for the Pro 2 race," Tremaine said. "The track wasreally rough, rocky and sandy. "I got a second-place start and just kind of rode my own race with a consistent pace. It was physicallydemanding with super-deep sand whoops throughout the course. It was a good variety." Yorba and Tremaine are in the middle of a tight battle for the class' championship lead. With this win, Yorbacame away with a two-point advantage over Tremaine and Starr Savage. "I want that Pro2 championship and I feel like every race that goes by I'm taking another little baby steptowards that goal," Yorba said. "This was my third win of the year in four races and if I hadn't crashed out inthe last race I'd probably have a good lead in the points. There's a long way to go so I just need to ride hard." On the women's side, Elizabeth Bash finished runner-up on Sunday, which helped her maintain thechampionship lead. Bash finished the race in 1:51:42, just behind winner Riley Ellinger who had a time of1:49:13. Bash leads Cortney Roewer by six points in the standings.

Sutherlin brings home West Hare Scramble title for Motorcycle-Superstore.com

MEDFORD, Ore. (May 2) - Gary Sutherlin didn't set out to run the entire AMA West Hare Scrambles Seriesschedule this year, but after the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet rider won the season-opening race, itwas hard not to come back for more. "I didn't have a plan to race the whole series," Sutherlin said. "Then I won the first race, the previous year'swinner had a DNF and I figured it's only a five-race series. I thought, 'Why not. I'll give it a shot.'" Sutherlin hit the bull-eye with his shot. He won in Buckeye and Globe, Ariz., and finished solidly enough inthe other two races to clinch the series title with one event left to go. "This series is a whole new ballgame for me," Sutherlin said."Hare scrambles are really tight rides. I come from amotocross background where things are more open. "I met a lot of new guys I'd never crossed paths with before, because it's such a different series. There are a lot of guyswho can go really, really fast through all the tight stuff. It'sbeen great." Crossing over to a different series has been a signature partof Sutherlin's career. This weekend he'll race the seasonopener for the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro EnduroCrossseries in Las Vegas. "I feel like I'm a pretty well-rounded guy," Sutherlin said."I've raced motocross, scrambles, 24-hour enduro races andEnduroCross. It's a good thing and the bad thing in a way. Ican perform well in most events, but I'm still looking for thatone thing where I can really excel. "To be able to pull off a championship and win two of these Hare Scramble rounds has been exciting." The most thrilling round might have been the latest round in Shasta Lake, Calif. "I kind of lucked out," Sutherlin said. "Cory Graffunder and I raced on Sunday morning, we threw all ourstuff in my van and we drove down to Sacramento so we could fly to Brazil to race in the X Games the nextweek. "I had a lot on my mind, but I just rode smart and wrapped up the title early." Sutherlin will be back on his bike on Friday at the Orleans Arena. Opening ceremonies get under way at 8p.m. PDT.

Webb and Forsberg earn pairof fourth-place finishes in Vegas

LAS VEGAS (May 4) -- Motorcycle-Superstore.com riders Cody Webb and Maria Forsberg returned from asuccessful trip to Global X Games in Brazil to log a pair of fourth-place finishes in the season-openingGEICO Motorcycle EnduroCross race Friday night at Orleans Arena. After flying through his heat race and looking in total command of the fast Vegas track, Webb was hamperedby a first-turn logjam in the main event that likely cost him a spot on the podium. While championship ridersMike Brown, Taddy Blazusiak and Colton Haaker broke free at the front, Webb had to fight his way throughthe field to earn his final spot. Even with a bad start, Webb rode his Beta two-stroke extremely well, methodically picking off his rivals as heregained the ground lost at the start. In the end, he narrowly missed a top-three spot as Blazusiak and Haakertook the last turn through the rock section at virtually the same time with Webb right on their rear fenders.Ultimately, Blazusiak and Haaker crossed ahead of Webb, earning second and third place, respectively.Brown took the win. "This race wasn't exactly what I had in mind but we'll take it," Webb said. "I had a decent jump on the startbut locked bars with someone in the first turn and nearly went down. The first two laps were just horrible butI settled in and basically freight-trained to fourth behind Taddy and Colton the rest of the race. "The track was pretty simple and fast and everyone rode solid so it was hard to capitalize on anyone else'smistakes because there just wasn't many made." Forsberg, the prohibitive favorite in the women's class after dominating last year's EnduroCross series, crashed at the start and found herself dead-last in the short, four-lap main event. The veteran regained hercomposure and closed in on a breakaway group of three riders but had a few bobbles that kept her off thepodium. It was a rare ending for Forsberg, who seemingly never finishes a race outside the top three. On this night,Canadians Shelby Turner and Chantelle Bykerk went 1-2, with Rachel Gutish taking third. "The night didn't go as I was hoping," Forsberg said. "I had that wreck at the start and was playing catch-upall night after that. Credit Shelby, Chantelle and Rachel; they rode really well and didn't give me manychances. With a race that's only four laps long you can't make any big mistakes. There's just isn't enough timeto overcome them." The series takes a month break before Round 2, which takes place June 8 at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento,Calif.

Motorcycle-Superstore.com's Martinez masters mud race in Kentucky, assumes points lead

PARK CITY, Ky. (May 5) - The rains that set in over the Southeast during the weekend didn't seem to botherMotorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet rider Kacy Martinez as she was able to work her way through thesloppy Mammoth GNCC course Sunday to pick up her first victory of the season and assume the women'sclass points lead. "For sure it was a very, very tough race," Martinez said. "I haven't been in a mudder for a long time. Isomehow finished three laps out there. It was crazy how muddy it was but I'm happy to get the win." Martinez said the rain was relentless, making it difficult for everyone. "It rained all day yesterday and pretty much all night,"Martinez said. "This morning it rained off and on beforequitting for a while, so we were hoping it was done. Then rightbefore we got to the starting line, it started up again and rainedoff and on pretty much the entire race." Martinez finished her three laps in two hours, five minutes, 17seconds aboard her KTM. Becca Sheets was a distant secondin 2:10:43. "There's not much you can do to prepare for conditions likethis," Martinez said. "My bike is so destroyed. I'll be diggingmud out for days. I knew it was going to be this way, so I wasready as I can be." Despite the soaking precipitation, Martinez said there wereactually a few spots on the course that were pretty fun to ride. "Down in the grass track through the pits and around the motorhomes was the worst," she said. "Once you got on the trails inthe woods it wasn't as bad as it was out along the flats. Thepros were making good lines through the trees, which made iteasier to race through. "Still, there were people off their bikes all around the track. It was hard to determine where to run on the trackand which were the right lines to ride." With the victory and a fifth-place finish from fellow Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet rider MariaForsberg, Martinez assumed the class points lead. Martinez had finished second in the previous four races thisseason. "I'm stoked, I'm so happy," Martinez said. "This track was so muddy I still can't believe how well I rode.Taking the points lead is a bonus." Up next on the GNCC trail is the Dunlop Limestone 100, May 18-19, from Lawrence County RecreationalPark in Springville, Ind.

Lanza a double winner forMotorcycle-Superstore.com

PRIMM, Nev. (May 6) - A busy weekend for Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet rider Jamie Lanzabecame a productive one as he scored a pair of victories at the Shamrocks Big 6 GP at State Line. Lanza started the weekend off Friday night by successfully reaching the main event at the GEICO MotorcycleAMA Pro EnduroCross opener in Las Vegas. He then made the quick trip over to Primm for the Big 6 race, where he won both the WGCP 86-200cc Expert class on Saturday and the Lightweight II Expert class onSunday aboard his trusty Husqvarna. "The whole weekend went well," Lanza said. "Making the main in Vegas was good, but obviously I wanted todo better than 12th place in the main there. I made a mistake in the main there and that cost me, butfortunately the rest of the weekend was practically flawless." In the first Shamrocks race, Lanza outpaced Jesse Vanhoy for the victory. Lanza completed the nine laps in 1hour, 54 minutes, 11 seconds. Vanhoy only completed eight laps before resigning. In the Sunday race, Lanzawas on his game again, finishing a five-lap race in 1:01:29. Vanhoy was runner-up again, finishing in 1:04:58. "Sometimes when you have a race that doesn't go so well, you can't wait to get back out on the bike and racemore," Lanza said. "Primm was only 45 minutes away from Las Vegas, so I was able to wake up the next dayafter the EnduroCross deal and start racing again." Lanza said the Shamrocks race was a fun mix of sand and hard pack that presented a fun challenge to ride. "Both races were very uneventful, a good thing when you're out in the desert," Lanza said. "My bike ranreally good both days, and that was probably the best part of it. The track was really sandy and I love ridingthrough sand. "There's enough of a mix of the sand and hard pack that you really can't go crazy with the sand tire. You haveto stay within yourself and ride smart." Up next for Lanza will be the So Cal GP from June 1-2 then the June 8 round of EnduroCross in Sacramento,Calif.

Motorcycle-Superstore.com unveils new commercial starring Kevin Windham

MEDFORD, Ore. (May 8) - Racers have a language all to themselves. It's a combination of noises, expressions and hand signals that help riders relive a ride. It's a language Motorcycle-Superstore.com knows well and has made the centerpiece of a new nationalcommercial campaign that will debut during the broadcast of the Lucas Oil AMA Pro MotocrossChampionship from Hangtown. Brian Chamberlain, creative director at Motorcycle Superstore, oversaw the production of the spot and saidthe aim was to highlight Motorcycle Superstore's strong racing roots. "We've never done a national spot like this," Chamberlain said. "When we decided to do one, we partneredwith Maddox Visuals and Tyler Maddox, who is both a great photographer and a rider. We really wanted topartner with someone who knew the subject matter inside and out. "We didn't want to do the run-of-the-mill commercial that shows a warehouse with lots of product talkingabout large selection and low prices. That's the same thing everyone else seems to be doing. We wanted to bedifferent." Chamberlain said the goal was to get personal with the individual consumer. "We want to connect with the rider," he said. "We want to let them know we ride just like they do and we getit. We threw around a lot of ideas and kept going back to how riders always talk about their rides right afterthey get off their bikes. It's a universal language of how riders speak to one another. "We want riders to know we get it because we're riders too, not just some big corporation selling parts." Chamberlain said the commercial initially was going to be funny, but it evolved into the final form as theyshot it. "It was going to be all humorous and we did a casting for people with great facial expressions," Chamberlainsaid. "In the process of casting we thought it would be cool if we could get a top-level rider to validate it andKevin Windham happened to be available, so suddenly there was this awesome opportunity to get this legendinvolved." Windham said while he's more at ease on a motorcycle than in front of the camera, it didn't take him long toget into the spirit of the shoot. "It's tough and sometimes you feel out of place doing things like this," Windham said. "It usually takes a lotof time to capture the moment the producer wants to have. I felt kind of goofy doing things like this in thepast, but you always trust the people behind the scenes are going to make you look as good as they can. "This time it didn't take long at all to know what they were trying to capture and I think they nailed it. Wewere just acting normal." Chamberlain said the Motorcycle Superstore employees who came out to watch also got involved. "As we started shooting, some of the faces started to get redundant and it wasn't as authentic as we wanted,"he said. "We had a bunch of employees on hand and they all ride, so we started to bring them into it, whichgave the spot a more realistic feeling. "If we had more time, I think the idea would have evolved further, but we were under a pretty tight deadlineto get it done. We're all very proud of it." COSTA MESA, Calif. (May 8) - Josh Larsen, one of the newest riders in the Motorcycle-Superstore.com stable, has won just about everything possible in speedway motorcycle racing and he has his sights set on filling in the lasthole on his résumé this season. The 40-year-old Californian has won races and championships all over the globe, but because of injury and a touchof bad luck, Larsen has yet to put a U.S. national championship on his shelf. His path to one of the two Americantitles up for grabs annually starts Saturday at Costa Mesa Speedway. "When I retired from racing in Europe after 12 years, I took abreak from racing for a while," Larsen said. "Two years ago Istarted to come back and just race for fun. I won eight of thefirst 12 races of the year, so I became a full-time rider again. "My career was interrupted when I broke my leg badly andsevered my Achilles tendon. It gave me the time to think aboutwhat I want to do. I've done everything I wanted except win aU.S. national championship, so that's the trophy I've decided tocome back for. That's my goal for this year." Speedway racing is a close cousin to Flat Track racing with thekey exceptions that Speedway bikes have custom-made frames, specialty engines and no brakes. Larsen has taken part in some non-points warm-up races in thepreseason and has won a lot of heats and finished no worse thanfourth in the main events. "I'm still working out the bugs and trying to get the feel forracing again," Larsen said. "There's two different nationalchampionships, the SRA and the AMA National. I'll be goingafter both this year. "The one I want to win the most is the SRA because it's centeredaround the Costa Mesa track, which is the mecca of our sport. It's the most prestigious in our sport and the one Imost want to win." Larsen's title hunt begins Saturday at Costa Mesa Speedway. Gates open at 6 p.m. with racing starting at 7:30 p.m.

Maguire's comfortable California cruise lands Motorcycle-Superstore.com pro in winner's circle

STOCKTON, Calif. (May 12) - The long layoff from the start of the Pro Flack Track season certainly didn'tbother Pro Singles rider Wyatt Maguire, who erased a so-so start to the season with a big win Saturday nightat the Stockton Half-Mile at San Joaquin County Fairgrounds. "It's been so long since we rode last," Maguire said of the two-month layoff. "At first it didn't really feel like aGrand National event because we were all just trying to get back to the feel of things again." It didn't take Maguire very long to knock off the rust and pick up some Motorcycle-Superstore.com BellHelmet bonus money in the winner's circle. He said it was helpful that his team didn't have to do much to hisbike to make it quick. "The bike was hooking up really well right out of the trailer," Maguire said. "We made just one change allnight, which was adding one tooth for the main. We played around a little with air pressure at the beginningof the night but that's about it. "You usually don't get to unload and pretty much have everything set up perfectly right from the start so I wasable to get comfortable right away." Maguire did have to work for his win after getting shuffled back at the start of the main event. "I had kind of a crummy start," Maguire said. "We were all bunched up in Turns 1 and 2, which isn't ideal. When we got to Turn 3 I was probably about fifth so I started to ride the outside and managed to pick up afew spots. "After that I started to move my line down and passed the other two guys. Then once I got up front I did mybest to stay smooth, keep my head down and two-wheel all the way round the track." With the victory, Maguire moved into a tie for the Pro Singles lead with fellow Motorcycle-Superstore.comBell Helmet rider and Daytona winner Kyle Johnson, who finished third on the night. Up next for the riders in the AMA Pro Flack Track Series presented by J&P Cycles, is a May 26 date with theSpringfield Mile at the Illinois State Fairgrounds in Springfield, Ill.

Yorba overcomes injury to score another victoryfor Motorcycle-Superstore.com

TAFT, Calif. (May 12) - Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet rider Eric Yorba literally held on as tight ashe could to win Sunday's WORCS Pro 2 race at Honolulu Hills. Just after the halfway point of the race, Yorba hit a slick spot on a technical section of the race and flippedover the bars of his KTM. The bike was undamaged in the crash, Yorba's hands, however were a differentstory. "They really soaked the endurocross sections of the track sothe logs were super slippery," Yorba said. "I went to try anddouble one and my front wheel didn't make it all the way. Iwent over the bars and smashed my fingers a little bit. "On one hand I could only grip with three fingers and prettymuch just the thumb on my other hand. It got really hard tohold on, especially towards the end when the track startedgetting really rough. I had to grip with everything I had, whatI could with my hands and a lot with my legs." Other than the discomfort from racing with busted up fingers, the race was pretty smooth for Yorba. "I got the holeshot out of everyone in Pro and the Pro 2s,"Yorba said. "I ran first overall for the first lap and a half butthen I gave it up to some Pro riders because I didn't want toget in the get in the way too much. "After I went over the bars, I decided to focus on my raceand not try to keep pace with the Pros for the overall win." It's Yorba's fourth win in five events this season. He was ableto marginally extend his points lead over second-place TyTremaine, a fellow rider with the Motorcycle Superstore BellHelmet sponsorship. "It was a bit of a struggle but I was able to make through the rest of the race," said Yorba, who also won the450A race Saturday. "I was able to get the points lead back at the last race and maintain it this round." Tremaine worked his way through some adversity himself Sunday on the way to a second-place finish in Pro2. He rode the race just days after injuring his shoulder in the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro EnduroCrossseason opener in Las Vegas. "I dislocated my shoulder at EnduroCross," Tremaine said. "So I wanted to make sure I stayed healthy thisweekend. This race was all about holding points and staying strong. I had to make sure I'm good for the restof the summer. "I had a good race -- no crashes -- and just rode with my head." The next stop in the WORCS Series won't be until July 12-14 at Pala Raceway in Pala, Calif.

BARCELONA, Spain (May 14) - If the year's first stop for the Global X Games in Brazil was a voyage intothe unknown for all of the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet Enduro X riders, Friday's race in Spain isjust as exotic, if not a little more familiar. "At least I've been to Barcelona to race a few times before," said top rider Cody Webb. "It's a beautiful city. This time I won't be by myself. Usually I'm there all by my lonesome, but I've got some of my Endurobrothers and sisters with me this time so we'll probably hang out for a few days after." Webb's Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet teammates Maria Forsberg, Kacy Martinez, Bryan Roper,Ryan Sandoval and Gary Sutherlin are all scheduled to make the trip across the Atlantic for the race. "Enduro in Europe is huge compared to here in the States," Webb said. "In the races I've attended in the past, the crowds were nuts. With a big, huge arena and X Games backing us, I think the atmosphere is going to besuper exciting." The course will be inside Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys and, like in Brazil, larger than the arena-sizedlayouts in the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro EnduroCross Series. "I have changed up my training a little before this event," Webb said. "Normally I'll ride endurocross on mypersonal track at home but this time I've been spending extra time doing motos on a motocross track. "On a bigger track, trials guys like me aren't accustomed to that kind of speed. I'm trying to get as muchaggression and speed as I can leading up to Barcelona." The top female endurocross rider in the world, Forsberg also is looking forward to the challenge thisweekend. "The last race was a real learning experience," Forsberg said. "I'm excited for Spain and excited to see thetrack. The biggest challenge in Brazil was how much the track got wet as the night went on. "It's going to be interesting to see how this track responds. You never know how the track will weather all thechanges as the night goes on. I'm excited to see how it all unfolds." Coverage of Enduro X racing starts at 10 a.m. EDT Friday on ESPN.

Motorcycle-Superstore.com rising star Canfield enjoyshelping other young riders discover the sport

MEDFORD, Ore. (May 16) - Jazzmyn Canfield may only be 12 years old, but the youngest member of theMotorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet stable already is giving back to her new motocross family. When not racing, Jazzmyn is often at the track near her central Florida home teaching younger motorcycliststhe ins and outs of riding dirt bikes. "I like teaching other kids, especially other girls," Jazzmyn said. "It reminds me of when I was growing up.We need more women pros out there. It would be awesome if there were a lot more girls racing." Jazzmyn is a bit of a phenom in a sport where talent is nourished at a young age. She regularly competes (andwins) against boys and has made a name for herself in national amateur competition. "When I race against boys, I know they think they'll be able to push me around," she said. "I know I need tobe a little more aggressive." Her father Martin Canfield comes from a motorcycle background but not the world of motocross. Hisspecialty was tricks and stunts on street bikes, but all that changed when Jazzmyn was 4 years old. "I was into stunting and had a little Honda 50cc to warm up on," he said. "When she was 4 she asked to rideit. When she got on it, she just naturally knew how to do everything. "A couple of weeks later all my bikes were sold and I had her on her own bikes. After she just turned 5, weentered her in a local race against 16 boys and she finished second." Martin said they are fortunate to live in their area of the country because there are a lot of tracks and a lot oftop talent around to help push Jazzmyn to new heights. "We live close to the Goerke family," Martin said. "They're just a few miles from us, so we are at their track alot. There are a handful of other pros that live within 15 or 20 minutes of us." Riding motorcycles is something Jazzmyn has loved since that first day. "I have always had a real passion for it," she said. "I seem to have the skill set for it and I like the feeling ofbeing free on a bike. I look forward to the training and everything it takes to race. My favorite race is theLoretta's (Loretta Lynn's National Amateur). The track is really good and I have had good luck there. "I really want to keep riding and turn pro. Racing is something I want to do my whole life."

Fast Fridays win sweet redemption forMotorcycle-Superstore.com pro Larsen

AUBURN, Calif. (May 18) - The comeback trail was long and rough for Motorcycle-Superstore.com BellHelmet rider Josh Larsen. But going to victory lane Friday night at Fast Fridays Motorcycle Speedway made20-plus months of rehab all worthwhile. Larsen suffered Achilles and heel injuries in a crash at Fast Fridays two seasons ago. But he made atriumphant return Friday night with a victory in the scratch Main Event. "It was awesome," Larsen said. "The last time I was at thattrack was when I got injured, and I was out almost twoyears. Coming back to that track and having a good nightlike I did was a little bit of redemption. I was over themoon, to say the least." Two years ago, Larsen suffered a severed Achilles tendonand a shattered heel in the wreck and needed nine surgeriesbefore he was able to ride again. Friday's race was one ofhis first since his return to action earlier this year. "It was a long process of healing," Larsen said. "Theseason started a few weeks ago, and the first couple ofraces were just getting my feet wet again and getting myconfidence back on the bike. Last night, everything clicked, and it felt really good to have everything work. It wasreally nice." Larsen, of La Verne, Calif., raced twice at the 1/8th-mileFast Fridays track, with the Handicap Main Event servingas the first race. He won his semifinal race and thenfinished second in the six-lap Main, which features astaggered start with more experienced riders starting behind less experienced ones. On the Scratch side of the program, Larsen won his heat race and then finished second in the semi to take theNo. 2 gate from the inside. In the four-lap Main, Larsen got a decent start and was second around the firstturn. But that didn't last long. "Charlie Venegas made a little bit better start and he kind of pushed me out wide into the dirt," Larsen said. "Ijust left it out there and actually got around him. Then I came back down to the inside and slammed the dooron him." Larsen then led the remainder of the race to score the victory. He faced a tough field at Fast Fridays, asseveral top riders from southern California were in town for a race that was postponed Thursday. "It was kind of a stacked field," Larsen said. "We had all the best riders from northern California and all thebest riders from southern California. It was really nice to go up there and do well, especially coming off aninjury. It's nice to get back into the top rankings so fast. "Thanks to the promoters and the fans at Fast Fridays. They're always great to us, with accommodations andeverything. They're really good to us. Of course, a big thanks to Motorcycle Superstore and Bell Helmets aswell."

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (May 18) -- World champion motocross rider James Stewart began the chase for the2013 Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Championship by sweeping both 450 motos at Saturday's RedBull Hangtown Motocross Classic in northern California. In doing so, Stewart earned the maximum of fourpoints in the season-long chase, which will be conducted at all 12 events on the Lucas Oil Pro MotocrossChampionship tour. In 250 action, Blake Baggett and Zach Bell each earned holeshots, Baggett in Moto 1 and Bell in Moto 2. "I did exactly what I wanted to do in both motos," said Stewart, who finished both 450 races in third place onhis Yoshimura Suzuki for an overall third-place ranking. "I'm really, really happy to get both holeshots andI'm pretty pleased with how the races went today, especially after not racing outdoors last year. "What Motorcycle Superstore has done in bringing back the Holeshot Championship is very cool. I want tothank those guys a bunch." Riders in both the 450 and 250 categories will have a chance to earn points in each of the 24 motos on theschedule. Moto 1 holeshot winners earn one point, Moto 2 winners earn two points, and any rider that claimsboth holeshots in one day gets a bonus point. At the end of the season, the top rider in each class will win theMotorcycle Superstore Holeshot Championship and a large cash reward -- $25,000 for the 450 champ and$15,000 for the 250 titlist. After finishing 19th in Moto 1, Bell had the throttle of his GEICO Honda CRF250R pinned in Moto 2, takingthe first turn in first place and earning two points in the process. The move put him in the early lead overBaggett in the points standings. Baggett earned the first holeshot on his Monster Energy Kawasaki and wasawarded one point. "I had a really strong start (in Moto 1) and it was kind of a surprise to get the holeshot because that's notnormally something that happens for me," Baggett said. "It just all came together here in Hangtown and I'mreally excited about that." In racing action, Baggett had a much better day, finishing in third and second for an overall second-placeresult. After earning his holeshot in Moto 2, Bell failed to finish the second race, pulling off the track just pastthe midway point of the race.

Motorcycle-Superstore.com pros Brayton,Tickle ready for Thunder Valley challenge

DENVER (May 23) - Motorcycle-Superstore.com riders Justin Brayton and Broc Tickle know Saturday'sRockwell Watches Thunder Valley National, the second stop in the Lucas Oil AMA Pro MotocrossChampionship, is one of the most intense tests a rider can face. "The layout has just about all you could ask for," Brayton said. "It has elevation, fun jumps, nice ruts, reallygood dirt. I look forward to racing there every year. "You've got to be a good all-around rider to have success there." Brayton said that the ruts, while good, also present their own special kind of challenge when running longmotos on his Toyota JGR Yamaha. "The dirt is like a really good black dirt and the ruts form up really well," Brayton said. "From Lap 1 to Lap 5,the track changes so much. On Lap 1 you might be picking good lines and flowing really well, then by Lap 5a particular rut might have totally changed and become the worst line. "You have to be observing the track the whole time you are racing because 30 minutes plus two laps with 40bikes on the track, the surface sure changes a lot. You have to be more patient and methodical through theruts, otherwise they'll bite you for sure." The riders aren't the only ones who will have their hands full in Denver: The thin atmosphere also presents achallenge to the mechanical crews. "With the altitude, the crew guys are hard at work trying to dial the bike in," Brayton said. "Luckily on theJGR team, we've got a bunch of guys who are really smart with that. The quicker your bike gets dialed in, thebigger advantage you are going to have." Both Motorcycle Superstore riders are expecting to bounce back from rough starts at the season opener.Tickle and his Dodge/Sycuan Casino RCH Racing Suzuki were 12th overall in the 450cc class and Braytonwas 18th. "We had some unfortunate luck in Hangtown," Brayton said. "We got a flat front tire, which doesn't happenvery often. Hopefully that's out of the way and we can turn the season around. "It's always tough to start the first race with a bad result, but I'm healthy and looking forward to Colorado." Practice for the Rockwell Watches Thunder Valley National will get under way at 8:30 a.m. MDT onSaturday and opening ceremonies at 12:40 p.m. The first motos will be aired live on NBC Sports Networkstarting at 3 p.m. EDT. The second motos will air on FUEL TV at 5 p.m.

DENVER (May 25) -- Justin Barcia didn't get a victory Saturday at the Rockwell Watches Thunder ValleyNationals but his lightning-quick starts in both motos put him atop the Motorcycle-Superstore.com HoleshotChampionship standings after two events in the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross tour. By sweeping both holeshots on his Muscle Milk Honda, Barcia earned a bonus point that pushed his total forthe day to four points. That moves him into a tie for first-place with James Stewart, who claimed bothholeshots one week ago in the season opener. "It's great to get both holeshots today," Barcia said. "My starts are something I've been working on a lot andthe money that Motorcycle Superstore has put up gives me a lot of extra motivation to keep after it. "I wish I could have converted those holeshots into wins today but I ended up third and fourth in the twomotos for an overall finish of third place, so that's pretty decent. I'm definitely going to continue working onmy starts because I want to win the holeshot title, and there are some other areas I need to work on also. Iwant some wins." Riders in both the 450 and 250 categories have a chance to earn points in each of the 24 motos on the outdoorschedule. Moto 1 holeshot winners earn one point, Moto 2 winners earn two points, and any rider that claimsboth holeshots in one day gets a bonus point. In 250cc action, the first four holeshots of the year have been claimed by four different riders, keeping theearly rankings very close. Zach Osborne of the GEICO Honda team and Jeremy Martin of MyPlash Yamahaclaimed Saturday's two holeshots, Osborne in Moto 1 and Martin in Moto 2. Currently, Zach Bell and Martin share the lead in the rankings with two points each, while Osborne and BlakeBaggett are tied for third with one point apiece. "You always want to get the holeshot because it sets up the rest of the race," Osborne said after Moto 1. "Andnow, with that money on the line, everyone is thinking about it that much more. Thanks to MotorcycleSuperstore for putting that bonus in place. "I felt really good in both motos today and the start in the first one was just perfect. I wanted to double-up andget the bonus point but it was really crowded up front. I'm still really happy with the way I rode overall sowe'll take this momentum and go to Tennessee and try to keep it up." The next chance to earn points in the Motorcycle-Superstore.com Holeshot Championship comes nextSaturday with the Built Ford Tough Tennessee Nationals at Muddy Creek Raceway.

"I rode at this track all the way through my amateur career," Tickle said. "Going there brings back goodmemories of good rides, so I'm looking forward to it."

Tickle doesn't expect the track to quite fit his amateur memories, but he believes it won't take him very longto get reacquainted with the hilly course.

"The track is going to be totally different," Tickle said. "But it's still going to be cool to be back at the facilitythat I've been racing at since I was 5 years old."

Tickle is 14th in the 450cc points standings after a 15th-place finish last week in Denver.

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 1) - Corey Alexander held off a hard-charging Stefano Mesa to winSaturday's Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport race during the Subway SuperBike Doubleheader at RoadAmerica, part of the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing Series. Alexander and his National Guard/Celtic Racing Suzuki pulled away from the pack to beat Mesa'sMotosport.com Yamaha by just a little more than a second. Jeffrey Tigert and his Baby Appleseed Yamahafinished third to round out the podium. "It's been a while since my first win, so it feels good to be back up here," Alexander said. "My team gave mea bike that was good right off the bat. We had a good, clean race with some passing and battling." Alexander kept one eye on the track and one behind him during his final trip around the course. "I didn't know what to expect on that last lap," Alexander said. "I felt like I was a little faster than Stefano insome spots, then he'd just draft back by me. He passed me going into Turn 5, when I thought I had a little bitof a gap going into there. "Going up the last hill, I knew I would hear him if he was in position to draft by me. Thankfully I didn't hearhim on the final lap and thought he wasn't close enough to get past me." Mesa's bike wasn't handling 100 percent to his liking, but he was still fast enough to hang with Alexander. "We had a little trouble with the back coming around on us," Mesa said. "I tried to make a few passes onCorey but wasn't able to make it stick until the last lap. Hopefully I'll have a better day tomorrow." Tigert got out of the gates first and led early on. He thought he'd bide his time before Alexander and Mesa hadother ideas. "I knew there would be a freight train; I knew the top guys would be around me," Tigert said. "Stefano wentaround me by Turn 5, which was OK. Then Corey came around me, which got me worried. I just tried to latchon to them. A couple of sections I would gain on them a little, then they were stronger in others. "I knew I was in a cat and mouse situation with them and was hoping one of them would make a mistake. Ididn't want to throw away a good finish with a mistake of my own." Motorcycle Superstore rider Devon McDonough flirted with a Top 10 finish for most of the day but lost acouple of positions on the final lap after developing a mechanical issue on his Motorcycle-Superstore.comYamaha. The Motorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport class will kick off again at 10:15 a.m. CDT on Sunday at RoadAmerica.

Motorcycle-Superstore.com's Davis charges through mud toscore first podium finish of GNCC season

MILLFIELD, Ohio (June 3) - Sometimes it takes something going wrong before finding the correct approachto make it right. Just ask Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet rider Nick Davis. At the Wiseco John Penton GNCC event at Sunday Creek Raceway, Davis took an early spill off his FARFactory Husqvarna in the XC2 Pro Lites class before regrouping, passing a lot of bikes, and finishing secondoverall, his first podium of the season. "It had rained all Saturday night, so it was pretty sloppy out there," Davis said. "I got off to a decent start butgot tangled up with a guy, which left me second-to-last by the time I got going again." The drop through the ranks only made Davis more determined. "I decided to just put my head down and charge," Davis said. "By the end of the first lap, I was up to sixth. Inthe next lap I got into third. By the time I worked my way into second, I just kind of rode my own race afterthat. The bike worked so well and everything was smooth." He finished in 3 hours, 12 minutes, 29 seconds. Grant Baylor was the winner with a time of 3:08:57. For Davis, it was a great way to return from an injury that had slowed him down. "I thought it was pretty good considering I broke my foot earlier in the year," Davis said. "For my first GNCCevent of the year, I was pretty happy with second place." In the Women class, Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet riders Maria Forsberg and Kacy Martinezreignited their season-long duel for dominance in their class. This time it was Forsberg who came out the winner in 1:56:35 with Martinez crossing the line second in2:00:53. "It was tough out there this weekend," Forsberg said. "But I really like the mud, so it was fun for me. It wasvery slippery. "I've been training really hard and pushing myself this year, and it has really been paying off at races like thisone." With the victory, Forsberg pulled within a point of Martinez's lead in the class. Forsberg has won five of theseven Women races this year and Martinez has won once and finished second at every other race. The next GNCC series race is the June 15-16 Mountaineer Run at Marvin's Mountain Top in Masontown,W.Va.

Motorcycle-Superstore.com's McDonough taking bigsteps forward at every SuperSport race

ELKHART LAKE, Wis. (June 4) - During last weekend's Subway SuperBike Doubleheader, Motorcycle-Superstore.com rider Devon McDonough figured out how to get with the lead pack of riders in theMotorcycle-Superstore.com SuperSport class; now the next step is to find the key to stay there. McDonough finished just outside the top 10 (12th on Saturday and 11thon Sunday) and learned a quick lesson on how to ride with the best in theclass. "Sunday I got a good start and was running toward the front during thefirst four laps," McDonough said. "At that point another rider passed mein the corner, we made contact, and I went off course, which sent me backfive or six spots. "It was good to run up front, even if it was for just a little while. Now Iknow what to expect when I get back up front. I know it's going to be alot more aggressive than how I usually ride." The 17-year-old has been soaking up all of the knowledge he can everytime he hits the track on his Motorcycle-Superstore.com Yamaha. "In my first season last year, my whole focus was learning these tracksthat I have never been to before," McDonough said. "It was difficult to becompetitive when you are trying to figure out the track you are racing on.Now that this past weekend and Daytona went all right, I expect that I'll do better at every race I go to. "I believe I'll start riding better because I'll set my expectations higher. My first time at Barber (MotorsportsPark) I did pretty good, so I'm really excited to see what I can do there now that I am more comfortable andconfident on the bike." While this race-to-race progress has been a great confidence-builder, McDonough has been careful not toexpect it all to fall into place at once. "It's hard to take it one step at a time but it's what you've got to do," McDonough said. "It was real exciting toride up there, but I didn't know what it would be like when I got there. "Now I have a better feeling for how aggressive I need to be and how much more I can push to race with thoseguys." McDonough's next chance to evolve as a rider will be at the June 21-23 Triumph SuperBike Classic at BarberMotorsports Park in Birmingham, Ala.

Motorcycle-Superstore.com's Lanza duelswith the dust, comes out on top

ANZA, Calif. (June 5) - Motorcycle-Superstore.com Bell Helmet rider Jamie Lanza has been a part of somechallenging races during his time in the Big 6 Grand Prix Series, but the most recent stop at The Ranch wasone for the books. Lanza had another solid weekend, guiding his Husqvarna to wins in the WCGP 86-200 Expert and 86-200LWT-II Expert classes and a third overall finish in the final day of competition. The combination of hightemperatures and bone-dry conditions made Lanza's ride one of the toughest of his career. "It was crazy," Lanza said. "I don't know what happened Saturday but it was just hot, well over 100 degrees. On Sunday they ran out of water in the water trucks, which made it even worse with the incredible amount ofdust we had to work with." According to Lanza, the dust was impenetrable on the open course, especially when trailing another rider, andthat left only one spot to pass on the entire course. "Once you caught the riders in front of you, you pretty much couldn't see," Lanza said. "You'd just have tofollow their dust and then when you got to the motocross track, you had about two minutes to make a passbefore you were on the off-road section again. "If you weren't able to make a pass there, it was follow the leader unless you wanted to take some bigchances." There were spots where the cloud of dirt was so thick that even forward progress was a chance too risky totake. "You didn't need to have a great start, but you had to be leading when you got to the off-road section," Lanzasaid. "That was my main concern. From there you had to be careful because there were a lot of square edges. "On Saturday there was once section where I was rolling along the course with my feet off the pegs, and I wentoff the track and I crashed. There were a couple of times where it was so silty and the wind was calm that youhad to wait and let the dust settle unless you were going crazy." Giant clouds of dust won't be as much of an issue this weekend when Lanza goes indoors on Saturday to racein the GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro EnduroCross Series at Sleep Train Arena in Sacramento, Calif. Hefinished 12th at the season opener in Las Vegas.
