Today, I am privileged to represent TAITRA to welcome you all here.

TIMTOS 2015, co-organized by TAMI and TAITRA, will enter its 25th event

from 3rd to 8th of March, 2015. Thanks to the industry's support, there are

more than 1,000 exhibitors using approximately 5,400 booths, which all

    refreshed previous records.

Taiwan leading machinery manufacturers include Hartford, Victor

Taichung, Goodway, YCM, Tongtai, QUASER, AWEA, CHEVALIER,

CHMER, HIWIN, FFG and more are attending the show and 7,000 foreign

buyers are coming to generate business opportunities up to US$ 2 billion.

In addition to its grand scale, the exhibition has four more highlights

    including:

    1. "High efficiency automated production"; as the major theme.

    2. Taiwan Controller appliance Pavilion.

    3. First Expo of Metal Forming Machines at Yuanshan EXPO Dome.

    4. Record high number of foreign exhibitors.

    13

  • 1. "High efficiency automated production"

It picks up the expos theme to promote upgraded industrial manufacturing

tech that cuts labor while boosting output through intelligent, automated

production technology. This trend with the strong backing of Taiwans ICT

industry opens a new blue ocean for the industry. For example the

mechanical power press maker CHIN FONG can boost by almost a third its

output of laser welded molding plates and sheets and the 64-year old FATEK

(FEMCO Group) has developed two types of fully automated aluminum

wheel production lines which greatly boost efficiency in processing aluminum

wheels for large trucks and minivans.

    2. Taiwan Controller appliance Pavilion

This pavilion is hosted by the Precision Machinery Research and

Development Center acting under a commission to the Ministry of Economic

Affairs in order to respond ECFA PSR (Product Specific Rules) and to assist

Taiwan controller industry in developing international markets. It exhibits

Taiwan-inspired and made controller tool models that include high-level and

CNC milling machines that underscore advanced tech performance. It

features Taiwan controller manufacturers SYNTEC Technology, Delta and

Advantech-LNC who showcase their latest results from R&D centers with

    industry and academia.

    3. First Expo of Metal Forming Machines at Yuanshan EXPO Dome

This features Taiwans high-quality, cost-effective machinery. The EXPO

Dome will be displaying 42 manufacturers, using 300 booths. Key exhibitors

    14

  • include SEYI, CHIN FONG and KUEN LIN and more will showcase Metal

Forming Machinery, Casting, Forging and more.

    4. Record high number of foreign exhibitors

Foreign exhibitors are also setting records with 260 foreign manufacturers

from 17 countries including Germany, Italy, Japan, Switzerland, Spain and

the United States. TOSI (Trade Office of Swiss Industries in Taipei) which

organized Swiss Pavilion for 12 times is again organizing a total of 20

exhibitors using 105 booths. Among these is the German Trade Office Taipei

with its German Pavilion, a joint operation with the German Federal Ministry

for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the German Machine Tools

Builders Association (VDW). AETATS (Association of Economy and Trade

Across Taiwan Straits) will also organize China Pavilion that joins machine

tool stars like Mazak, DMG Mori, Yasda, Jtekt, Sodick, Mitsubishi, Trumpf,

Kuka, Fanuc, Siemens, Bosch, Citizen, Igus and Blum.

Taiwan machine tool industry is one of the most competitive industries,

ranking the 4th largest machine tool exporter in the global market place, with

exports amounted to US$ 3.5 billion in 2013. Export value of Taiwan's

    machine tool from January-August 2014 reached US$ 2.4 billion, a 5.2%

growth compared to the same period last year. Export growth in emerging

markets is also promising, which showed a growth of 11.1% for Malaysia,

17.8% for Viet Nam and 19.3% for Turkey.

    15

  • Besides exhibition, other events include 200 plus "one-on-one

procurement meeting, "Taiwan Machine Tool Industry Awards for Excellence

in Research & Innovation" and 20 series of seminars and new products

    presentations.

International buyers can freely zip between halls on inter-hall shuttle

buses and obtain free MetroCards (intl buyers only) to ride FREE the MRT

RED and BLUE Lines that link venues at NANGANG, Halls 1&3 and

    Yuanshan EXPO Dome.

Thank you once again for your support. I wish you good health, good

luck, and booming business. See you at TIMTOS 2015!

    16

  • Pre-Show Press Conference of TIMTOS 2015

    Remarks by Mr. David Chuang,

Vice Chairman of Machine Tool Committee, TAMI

Deputy Executive Director Lee, friends from the press, ladies and

    gentlemen, good morning.

I feel a great honor to be here with you and on behalf of TAMI and all the

exhibitors who participate TIMTOS 2015, I welcome you all to the pre-show

press conference for TIMTOS, the 25th Taipei International Machine Tool

    Show.

In 2013, the global economy suffers a recession. Some major countries

have been recovering but still encountering barriers. On the whole, the global

total export value of machine tool industry in 2013 is less than that in 2012.

Among them, the export value of Japan had the largest decline by 32.0% and

it fell back to the second in the global rank. The total export value of Taiwan

slightly increased in the global proportion, but the export value decreased by

16% compared to the same period last year.

According to the latest statistics, the total export value of Taiwan

machine tool industry from January to September in 2014 edged up by

reaching 2.8 billion US dollars, a 6.6 % growth on the same period last year.

In the ranking list of the export countries, from January to September in 2014,

Mainland China ranked the first with the export value of 925 million US dollars,

accounting for 33.0% of the total, an increase of 8.8% compared to the same

period last year. The USA came the second with the export value of 303

million US dollars, making up 10.8% of the total, a 4% increase compared to

    17

  • the same period last year. Turkey ranked the third with the export value of

158 million US dollars, an increase of 19.3% compared to the same period

    last year.

The global competitiveness of Taiwan machine tool industry is changing

now. The cross-strait policy ECFA includes some 100 items on the machine

tool industry. It will assist Taiwanese machine tools and products to expand

market in Mainland China. What the industry worries about most is that NTD

is a relatively strong currency in terms of the convert rate to USD, compared

to JPY and KRW. In addition, FTA between Europe and Korea has been

under way since July, 2011 and FTA between the USA and Korea has also

taken effect since March 15, 2012. CEPA between India and Korea has

assisted the Korea-made machine tools into the Indian market. Meanwhile,

Indian Rupee devalues. In 2013, the export from Taiwan to India dropped.

Furthermore, Mainland China and Korea is going to reach the agreement of

FTA. Plus, JPY has a sharp devalue in 2013 and 2014. Now the USD/JPY

has hit 110. The depreciation rate has been over 35%, which is similar to the

currency rate in 2008. All this has a serious impact on the sales of Taiwanese

machine tools in the international market.

The competitiveness of Korean tax-free machine merchandise has risen

in the markets of ASEAN, Europe, America, and India while Taiwan machine

export has been downsized in these markets. In addition to the global

economic recession, the businesses in Taiwan have to face the challenges

mentioned above. The only way to deal with is to develop more advanced

products. Next years TIMTOS is the best stage for the businesses and

manufacturers in Taiwan. More new products will be released in the contest

    18

  • of Taiwan Machine Tool Industry Awards for Excellence in Research &

    Innovation. TIMTOS 2015 worths expectation.

Once again I would like to thank our co-organizer, TAITRA, Deputy

Executive Director Li, and our coworkers for their endeavor and commitment

to next years TIMTOS, plus the support from local industry, distinguished

guests and friends from the media. I would like to wish the exhibition very

successful and wish you all good health and good luck.
