Membership…
Today we will present ideas that will help you grow your chapter – one member at a time.
Tools and Resources
A few things to keep in mind as you go about the business of growing a strong successful chapter: Approach growing your chapter with energy and
creativity Make your members feel valued Grow your NAWBO chapter like you grow your
business Turn Recruiting and Retention into processes
Make Membership everyone’s job!
Membership Recruitment Ideas Look at Corporate Partners to help attract prospective members
Support CP by attending their events Invite CPs to participate in membership committee Ask CP to display NAWBO postcard, brochure or flier at their office or store Promote discounts available from local and national partners as a member benefit
Offer specials or “rewards” to current members who recruit new members and bring guests to meetings
Understand your community make-up to bring diversity and interest to the chapter
Identify Your Target Market
Chapter needs vary, but most will agree on the following guidelines: Established Business ownerLocated in your chapter areaInvolved in the community – but not in too many organizationsHas time to support NAWBOWants to grow both professionally and personallyHas ties to the potential members and corporate partnersLooking for a place to use her talentsCommitted
Other items to consider: Business sizeIndustry typeAge of business ownerYears in businessDiversity goalsGeographic location
The Recruiting Process

Social Media Marketing
• Facebook – most chapters will list this as #1 resource– Post event calendar, post after-event photos and video– Encourage your members to share the photos on their wall – Encourage members to invite their friends to like your chapter page– Add links from your website to your Facebook page
• Meetup.com– Starting a group and listing your events can help prospective members
find you when they search for business groups– Account costs $12-19 per month
• LinkedIn.com– Post events on your group page and OTHER group pages – Create active discussions on your group – have a committee member
monitor
Marketing with Printed Materials
• Postcards – Print postcards to display in local businesses both member companies & corporate partners
• Business card size meeting cards – Cards feature yearly meeting calendar and reservation information hotline & online RSVP
• Printed mailing can be effective, but costly. Make sure you have a targeted mailing list. Track your list results.
