A PROCLAMATION

AMERICAN EAGLE DAY

Sample Proclamation with suggested American Eagle Day verbiage.

The Bald Eagle was selected as the central image of the Great Seal of the United States by our country's Founding Fathers on June 20, 1782 at the Second Continental Congress. For over 230 years, it has served as the pride of America's skies and the living symbol of all that America stands for: Freedom, Courage, Strength, Spirit, and Excellence.

The Bald Eagle is deeply rooted in our nation's heritage, folklore and environment, and has special meaning to many Americans. The Bald Eagle is the central image used in the logos of many branches of the U. S. Government, including the Presidency, Congress, Defense Department, Treasury Department, Justice Department, State Department, Department Of Commerce and U. S. Postal Service. Eagle images and references are woven into the very fabric of our society, including our architecture, music, literature, art, clothing, and commercial products.

We almost lost this precious American Symbol due to our own mistakes and neglect, but our nation's citizens rose to the occasion and accepted the challenge and responsibility to save and protect it for future generations. After nearly disappearing from most of the contiguous United States, the Bald Eagle is now flourishing across the nation.

The removal of the Bald Eagle from Endangered Species Act protection was announced by Secretary of the Interior Dirk Kempthorne on June 28, 2007. The Bald Eagle is still a protected species in the lower 48 states under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act of 1940 and the Migratory Bird Treaty Act. The banning of DDT, strict protection laws, and the efforts of concerned citizens and organizations like the American Eagle Foundation have all contributed to the recovery of Bald Eagles in the lower 48 states. They’ve made an amazing comeback from an estimated 400-450 nesting pairs in the early 60s to over 15,000 pairs today!

Our nation has made encouraging progress, but must continue its commitment until the Bald Eagle has made a full and healthy recovery to our lands, waterways, and skies.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, DONALD TRUMP, President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June

20th, 2015, as American Eagle Day. I call upon all Americans to observe this day by celebrating the comeback of our National Bird and reflecting upon its symbolism.

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand this ______ day of ______, in the year of our Lord two thousand ______ , and of the Independence of the United States of America the two hundred

and forty-first.

DONALD TRUMP
