Dear Master Gardeners:
By the time you read this we will have completed our 2016 Think Spring Seminar
at its new location; the Avalon Hotel and Conference Center, but that does not
mean we are ready to stop thinking Spring! In February the new board met at the
home of Sandy Kenner to plan for the CVMGA spring and year ahead. As we
enjoyed some warm hospitality on a cold night we made a good start at lining up
meetings, programs, and projects for 2016; however, we still have openings left
toward year’s end and welcome your suggestions of activities for the months of
October, November and December.
Have you been waiting for this group to have a fall pumpkin crafts get
together or a post-harvest seed exchange?
Is there a topic that you would especially like to learn more about?
Do you know of a speaker that the CVMGA volunteers would all enjoy
hearing?
Should we revive the annual meeting potluck tradition?
Is this the year for a CVMGA Christmas party?
Please contact any officer or board member with your ideas or questions about
CVMGA.
Sincerely,
Laura Kasdorf
Co-President

Upcoming Events
Chippewa Falls Parks, Recreation and Forestry along with Chippewa County University of Wiscon-sin - Extension are offering community gardening plots for the 2016 growing season. 12’ x 12’ garden plots at Marshall Park, on Bridgewater, are availa-ble for lease by individuals, households or organiza-tions. The garden will be tilled and ready for planting by early May. Fees for leasing plots are $20.00 for Chippewa Falls residents or $30.00 for non-residents. To lease a plot visit the Chippewa Coun-ty UW-Extension website at http://chippewa.uwex.edu to print out the application.
Applications are due to the Extension Office by April 15, 2016. Gardens will be assigned on a first-come first-serve basis. New for 2016, the Community Garden at Marshall Park in collaboration with CVMGA and Chippewa County UW-Extension has applied for and received a grant from the Edwin and Evelyn Nyhus Centenni-al Fund of the Community Foundation of Chippewa County (CFCC) for fencing to project the community garden from wildlife damage. The fencing should be in place before the start of the 2016 gardening season. Thank you to the CFCC and the Edwin and Evelyn Nyhus Family.
Community Garden Plots Available
The Chippewa County Department of Land Conser-vation & Forest Management is sponsoring a Con-servation Tree Program to encourage tree planting. A mixture of conifers, hardwoods, and shrubs are available for purchase as 1-3 year old bare root tree and shrub seedlings. They are available in multiples of 10, sorted by the same tree or shrub species, with a minimum order of 10 seedlings and a maximum order of 300 seed-lings. Orders will be taken through March 31, 2016, with pick up tentatively scheduled for Friday, April 22nd at the Northern Wisconsin State Fairgrounds.
Tree and shrub descriptions , program guidelines, and the order form can be found on the Chippewa County website, under Land Conservation & Forest Management, http://co.chippewa.wi.us/government/land-conservation-forestmangement. Click on “Conservation Tree Program”. Information is also available at the Land Conservation & Forest Man-agement Office.
All proceeds will be distributed to local youth and conservation organizations to support environmental education and leadership training. For more information contact Lisa at 715-720-3643.

Gardening for Wildlife
Program participants will learn how to create benefits for wildlife in their backyards using native plant species. In doing so, presenter Bill Hogseth will discuss the life-cycle of native wildlife, with an emphasis on birds, and how residential landscapes can help meet their habitat needs.
