President’s Message
Hello, Guild Gang!
Oh boy! It sure got hot in a hurry. Hope you are all having a good month
making lots of cool quilts. Or at least cool blocks. Please be sure to
renew your membership and remind all your friends to also renew theirs.
Please also bring some patriotic 5 inch squares to the June meeting. Four
squares will earn one ticket. We will collect all the squares into one pack
and the winner takes all squares home.
Happy Summer everyone and Happy quilting!
Best,
Shannon
P.S. Below is from The Quilting Marine channel on YouTube. In case you are
interested: Hello everyone! So the Secret Sew Project is finally upon us. From Memorial Day to July 4th, 2018, if you choose to participate, create a patriotic 10 1/2 inch block and send it to me at the address below. You can be as creative as you'd like but please make sure that the block size is 10 1/2 inches. We will assemble the blocks and donate the quilts over the holiday to veterans/veteran organizations. BLOCK OF THE MONTH from Marie
Congratulations to Jean McCoy!
Winner of an Asian fat quarter bundle and panel with her Blockhead table runner
using her own daughter’s (Jane Maday’s) fabrics!
Our upcoming year of BOM will be 12.5” blocks. I will be presenting some from
Pat Sloan’s theme of ‘Let’s Go Camping’. I may be using some grunge fabrics as well
as forest animals along with others during the year. You may of course choose to
make them with a theme of your own and from fabrics from your stash each month.
Also if you like you could make your blocks and donate them to our Love & Comfort
committee for Charity quilts. It’s all about a little extra fun each month and perhaps
you might learn something new!
JUNE Guild Meeting
Secret Sisters
Don’t forget to bring your wonderful brown paper bag with that special present for your Secret Sister. The reveal for last year was in May.
If you haven’t participated in Secret Sister consider doing it the current year. It is a lot of fun and a great way to get to know your fellow Quilters.

Membership This year the Membership responsibilities will be handled by Liz Bell and me, Kate Walters. There are a number of reasons people join a guild and maintain their membership. Obviously, increasing our skills is a primary motivation, but Liz and I believe that fellowship is a primary motivator as well. Since our guild has grown so much over the years, this component of membership has lost some of its focus. Therefore, one of the goals we have set this year is to take opportunities to help members get to know each other better. To achieve this goal, we are asking members to sign up to sit with a new person /visitor at a meeting, to introduce them to the people they know, and to answer questions that may come up during the meeting. In short, become a familiar face and resource for that visitor. This may encourage a visitor who will, hopefully, become a new member. If you are interested in this opportunity to meet new quilters, please contact either Liz or me to complete a sign-up form. Another way we intend to achieve our goal is to highlight 1-2 members at each meeting. Liz and/or I will do the talking, all you need to be willing to do is stand up and let the group learn a little about you. We had sign-up sheets at the last meeting, but you can email me at [email protected] to give me the information. We want to know the type of information that you would share with a new friend, i.e. how many children/ grandchildren; what you did/do for a living; what part of Round Rock do you live; how long have you been quilting and how did you get into the hobby? We hope by doing this, the membership will learn new areas of common interests and we will all get to know each other better. If you have any questions or comments about membership or have ideas for becoming a more cohesive group, we would love to hear them. My email address is above and Liz's is [email protected].

We can always use help piecing backs and doing binding. Please contact Jeanne Toewe
at [email protected] if you are interested in helping with either.
A sew-in will be scheduled at Paula Bidwell's home (3348 Ranch Park Trail, Round Rock
-- 512-238-1298). Space is limited, so please email Paula ([email protected]) as soon
as possible to reserve a spot. If you can't stay the entire time, that's fine, just let Paula know and
she will try to fill the remainder of the time with another sewer.
We showed the pattern at the last meeting -- very basic/fast sewing. We have plenty of
kits made and will be ready to sew. All you need to bring is your machine and basic sewing
supplies. Be sure to pack a lunch. Sew-ins are a great way to meet new people and have lots of
fun.
If you took any kits or disappearing 9-patch blocks and have them finished, please bring
them to the meeting. We are also always collecting scrappy 16 patches and t-shirt applique
blocks.
A FUN challenge will be presented to the guild at the June meeting:
The basic idea is that Love & Comfort is storing lots of fabric. We can only kit it so fast
and there is such a need for quilts. So, this is an effort to help us use up the fabric and get kids
snuggled in quilts . . .
If someone would like to participate in the challenge, they will randomly select a brown
paper bag which will have roughly 1/2 yard of fabric. It could be one or more fabrics. Fabric
from your own stash will need to be added to make a quilt top. This is a perfect way to work on
"busting" your own stash.
Be creative, anything goes -- basic to complex, sashing or no sashing, applique, pieced,
paper pieced, you name it! Make a quilt out of your favorite block or challenge yourself to try
something new. Can't figure out what to make with the fabric you received, cut it up with a
bunch of other scraps and make a 9 patch quilt, string quilt, sampler, etc.
For the challenge, quilts should be no smaller than 36" x 36"; no wider than 54" and no
longer than 70". Of course, a completed quilt would be ideal, however, we will gladly accept
quilt tops.
Quilts should be turned in at the August meeting. For each quilt/quilt top turned in using
your challenge fabric, you will get to put your name in for a prize drawing. If you want more

chances, feel free to take more than one mystery brown bag. We will have a show and tell of all
the amazing, creative quilts made for Love and Comfort.
Thank you to those that donated batting and fabric. It is greatly appreciated and will be
put to good use and thanks to all for supporting Love and Comfort
