How to display exhibits on Show Day

    • You will need to buy a catalogue from the gate stewards. • Inside the catalogue you will find your name next to a number in the classes you

have entered. • Inside the exhibit tents find the corresponding number. Place your exhibit next to

that number. • Tents close at 10am for judging. Exhibits must be in place and cars off the field

by then. If you have entered in several classes leave plenty of time to get your exhibits in place.

How to collect prizes and cups

    • If you have won a prize, including cups, there will be a prize card with a tear off portion beside your exhibit. Take the prize card to the Secretary’s tent anytime between 3.00-5.00pm.

    • Cups requiring engraving will be engraved on site and will be ready for collection by 5.00pm.

    • Prizes for sheep, sheep dogs, tractors, children’s sports and fancy dress are given by the steward at the time of judging.

    • Fell Race prizes are available from the Fell Race Tent near the race start point.

    129. Adult Handwriting. First prize given by Mrs S Restall “to support a dying art”.

Excerpt from article written by Alison Flood in The Guardian May 2019 The West Yorkshire poet Simon Armitage, a former probation officer who describes his writing as “no-brow”, has been appointed as the UK’s 21st poet laureate. Armitage, who received a phone call from Theresa May offering him the position on Thursday, said his parents cried when he told them the news – he had made them particularly nervous in 1994, when he gave up his day job to become a full-time poet. “I was giving up a profession, a salary, lots of security for something that seemed to them very woolly and uncertain,” he said. “So to be able to go back to them 30 years later and give them this news felt very significant. They just burst into tears. I got a text from my dad later saying ‘We’ve stopped crying now.’ He’s very witty, though, my dad and he added, ‘If your grandad had been alive today, this would have killed him.’”
