Event PurposeThe Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) Detection course provides participants with knowledge and skills in recognizing the VBIED threat, identification of components and devices, methods for reacting to improvised explosive devices, and the procedures for inspecting vehicles to detect VBIEDs.
Who Should Attend? The VBIED Detection course is designed for first responders, public safety officers, security officers, and law enforcement officers tasked with inspecting vehicles for explosive threats, hazards, or prohibited items.

Registration Information:Online registration will be completed through the FEMA Center for Domestic Preparedness.
Students require a FEMA Student Identification (SID) number to register. Registration
information will be provided by the hosting agency once the course has been scheduled.

Cost:This event will be provided by DHS with no
charge to attend - any lodging/per diem expenditures will be the responsibility of the
attendee’s own agency/department/company.

Course Description
The Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) Detection course provides participants with the
knowledge and skills to successfully, and safely inspect for, identify, and/or respond to vehicle-borne explosive
threats.
Course Format and Audience
This is a one-day, in-person instructor-led training covering the following topics:
Vehicle-borne explosive threat overview
Identifying vehicle-borne explosive hazards
Assessment of vehicles and occupant behavior
Vehicle inspection demonstration and activity
This course is designed for small groups of up to 25 participants and is intended for audiences such as:
Critical infrastructure owners and operators
Public safety officers
Emergency managers
Security officers
Law enforcement officers
Private sector security professionals
* The International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET) authorizes 0.65 Continuing Education
Units (CEUs) through the Center for Domestic Preparedness (CDP) for completion of this course. *
