Jason Anderson | President and CEO, Cleantech San Diego

As President and CEO of Cleantech San Diego, Jason manages the overall organization and leads its efforts to position the greater San Diego region as a global leader in the cleantech economy. Before joining Cleantech San Diego in 2010, Jason was Vice President of Business Development for the San Diego Regional Economic Development Corporation (EDC). In that role, Jason oversaw the delivery of business development services in support of EDC’s mission to attract and retain high-growth, high-wage industries in the region. Prior to joining EDC in 2006, Jason lived in Austin, Texas, where he worked in the State Capitol as Legislative Director for Texas State Senator Frank Madla.

John Arena | Business Outreach Manager,Metropolitan Water District of Southern California

John is the Business Outreach Section Manager at Metropolitan Water District (MWD), the nation’s largest water wholesaler serving 19 million Southern California residents. John is responsible for reviewing an average $600 million annually in contracting activity and implementing outreach and education programs for potential vendors. Since John’s leadership began nearly nine years ago, MWD’s Business Outreach program has implemented state-of-the-art technology to certify small business and monitor contract compliance, created a vendor database for business networking and contracting opportunities, and expanded the program to reach and connect the brightest minds throughout the world in water innovation and technology.

Rick Azer | Associate Vice President, Smart IntegratedInfrastructure Group, Black & Veatch

Rick is Associate Vice President for Black & Veatch’s Smart Integrated Infrastructure Group. Rick’s role is to identify new trends, establish solution architecture, support ecosystem development, and system integration capability to successfully bring emerging technology programs to market. Rick is passionate about bringing technology into the built environment and the advancement of cleantech initiatives. He has 25 years of experience delivering solutions for emerging technologies, including new product offerings for telecommunication, media, renewable energy, transportation, and petrochemical industries.

Eric Clifton | CEO, Orison

Eric is CEO and Co-Founder of Orison, an energy storage company. Orison plug-and-play energy storage reduces energy costs, provides energy security, and contributes to a self-healing, efficient energy grid. Eric has over 14 years of experience and expertise in product development of smart home technologies for construction of residential communities built with sustainable strategies. He began his career as an entrepreneur over 15 years ago by securing a $10 million investment and has continued to achieve success with multiple companies.

Niki De Leon | EVgo DG Project Manager, NRG Energy

Niki works with distributed generation technologies at NRG and leads NRG's EVgo demonstration projects at UC San Diego. She earned her MA in Energy Policy at the University of Delaware where she also worked with the Center for Carbon-free Power Integration on grid-integrated vehicles as energy storage. Niki was part of the working group to develop Critical Peak Pricing rates for Pepco Holding and has worked with the Notre Dame Global Development Initiative in Uganda to provide internet and electricity access at schools and community centers.

Dan Goodwin | Director of Corporate Affairs and Business Development, Oberon Fuels

Dan is Oberon Fuels’ Director of Corporate Affairs and Business Development responsible for market analysis and engagement with fleet owner / operators, equipment manufacturers (OEMs), government, and advocacy groups interested in dimethyl ether (DME). Before transitioning to the commercial sector, Dan served in the United States Marine Corps, attaining the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He served with Navy, Marine Corps, and Air Force units as an F/A-18 and F-15C fighter pilot.

Troy Hinds | Senior Account Executive, Green Charge Networks

Troy brings over seven years of experience in the energy field to Green Charge Networks. Having developed renewable energy based Engineering, Procurement, Construction (EPC) projects funded through structured tax-equity and capital financing, Troy has successfully managed the entire project development process from start to finish; focusing on client capital investment, site feasibility, financial analysis and modeling, structured finance, contract negotiation, construction execution, and project delivery, resulting in a portfolio of deployed commercial and industrial DG solar power plants in operation across California.

Michael Jones | Vice President, Sales West, ChargePoint

Michael has a 25 year history of entrepreneurship having founded or operated many companies with innovative products and disruptive business models. Challenging the world to find better solutions to the status quo drives him. His diverse background includes stints as Chief Technology Officer of Flashcom, Sr. Product Manager for Core Mobility, CEO of Melior Chemical, and President of Summit Technology. During his tenure at ChargePoint, he has been on the front line of multiple large-scale EV charging programs including ChargePoint America and BMW DriveNow, deploying thousands of EV charging stations throughout the United States.

Steve Lopiano | Senior Vice President, Sales and Marketing,Power Analytics

Steve serves as the Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing at Power Analytics, a subsidiary of Causam Energy, where he leads the marketing division and manages the company’s direct selling force for the Americas and the global channels program. Steve is a seasoned, well-respected marketing strategist who has provided leadership to both small and large companies, several of which were in the top Fortune 50. A hallmark of Steve’s experience has always been dramatic year-over-year top and bottom line growth. In his current position, Steve is a pathfinder for the electric energy industry as he brings the innovative solutions of Causam Energy and Power Analytics to market.

Michal Koenig | Senior Director, Product Management, Qualcomm Incorporated

Michal serves as Senior Director of Product Management within Qualcomm’s Corporate Engineering Services group. In this role, he is responsible for leading new product development to bring advanced M2M technologies to Qualcomm’s Smart Cities/Industrial Internet initiative as well as addressing industry policy, process, and procedure changes needed to facility the adoption of these new technologies. Michal also provides engineering and technical oversight to Qualcomm’s Corporate Social Responsibility group, Wireless Reach™. Michal has 30 years of diversified business, engineering, and operations experience within the wireless communications industry.

Laura Manz | President, Water and Energy Symbiosis Technology

Laura is a President of Water and Energy Symbiosis Technology LLC (WEST LLC), and a Senior Fellow with California’s More Than Smart initiative to integrate distributed energy resources. She most recently formed WEST LLC to focus on efficiencies and opportunities across the water and energy nexus. Laura is a recognized leader in the energy industry with executive and field experience in electric and natural gas utilities. Her areas of expertise encompass power generation, electric grid planning and operations, rates and ratemaking, distributed energy, and advanced technologies.

Ari Matusiak | Executive Vice President of Market Development and External Affairs, Renovate America

Ari oversees the company's market expansion, its strategy for deepening community offerings, and its relationships with key partners and policymakers. Ari served as Special Assistant to President Obama and Director of Private Sector Engagement, bridging the private sector and the Administration, and developing policies that spurred job creation and long-term economic competitiveness. He is the Co-Founder and Chairman of Young Invincibles, a national organization dedicated to improving economic opportunities for 18 to 34 year olds. While VP of Strategy and Community Impact at The Rhode Island Foundation, Ari leveraged over $500 million in affordable housing investment, creating thousands of jobs.

Ned McMahon | CEO, Primo Wind

Ned is the founder and CEO of Primo Wind, a renewable energy company working with micro turbines. Ned attended Texas A&M University studying Marine Engineering and has worked as a homebuilder, boat builder, and surfboard shaper. During his career Ned moved into executive level management and business development domestically and internationally, which included brand management and international licensing. He was the founder of Malama Composites, Inc., the first company to manufacture rigid PU foam made from plant-based chemistry.

Nicholas Ong | Account Manager, Intel

Nick is a Technical Account manager for Intel focused on Internet of Things (IoT) opportunities in the Southern California and Nevada region. He has represented Intel as a board member in Cleantech San Diego for the last two years participating in the Smart Cities initiatives. During his 28 years at Intel, Nick has worked in software and silicon development, technical support, marketing, and sales — all focused on Intel embedded products and systems with a recent focus on IoT implementations.

Jared Quient | Senior Vice President and General Counsel, BayWa r.e.

Jared is Sr. Vice President and General Counsel for BayWa r.e. Solar Projects, LLC. Prior to joining BayWa, Jared was Vice President of Development and Legal Affairs with AMSOLAR, a San Diego-based solar development and finance company that specializes in delivering solar projects to schools, municipalities, and commercial clients nationwide. Previously, he was a litigator in Kirkland & Ellis, LLP's New York office. In 2008, he took a leave of absence from Kirkland to join "Obama for America" as the statewide Deputy Voter Protection Director in Florida.

Dave Roberts | Fellow, OSIsoft

Dave is focused on a new approach to cities and industrial clusters based on the principles of the microgrid similar to the OSIsoft success at UC San Diego. Dave is very active in the wind industry and works with many of the major wind and power generation companies to optimize the management of their various assets and businesses. Prior to joining OSIsoft, Dave worked at SeaWest WindPower. As Vice President, Project Development, he was responsible for the development of hundreds of megawatts of wind farms in the western U.S. He then became Senior Vice President of Strategy and Planning, leading to the eventual sale of SeaWest to the AES Corporation in 2005.

Jeff Schwartz | Chair, Cleantech San Diego

Jeff is Senior Vice President and Senior Client Manager in Global Commercial Banking at Bank of America Merrill Lynch, where he is responsible for managing a portfolio of public and private companies with annual revenues of $50 million to $2 billion. In this role, he leads a team focused on delivering comprehensive financial and strategic solutions to corporate clients headquartered in San Diego. He actively engages with CEOs and CFOs regarding the client’s industry and capital structure and is the primary bank advocate and key financial advisor for his clients. Schwartz has over ten years of experience in banking, all at Bank of America Merrill Lynch.

Heather Werner | Markets & Public Policy, OneRoof Energy

OneRoof Energy is a complete solar service provider offering homeowners traditional and lease/PPA financing, design & installation, and ongoing operations and system maintenance. Heather is responsible for tracking and engaging policy and regulatory activities at the federal, state, and local levels across solar, distributed generation, and advanced energy industries; and providing operational and strategic guidance on market opportunities and risks. Prior to joining OneRoof, Heather was a Program Manager and Special Assistant at the US Department of Defense, working in Iraq and Afghanistan on economic stabilization projects – specifically market-based rural electrification models and energy resource development transactions.

Desmond Wheatley | President and CEO, Envision Solar

Desmond teaches a LEED-accredited class on sustainability in parking and is a recognized industry leader in renewables and the electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure. He has a widely viewed TED talk and is frequently invited to chair and speak at industry events. Desmond has two decades of senior international management experience in technology systems integration, energy management, communications, and renewable energy.

Since 2007, Bank of America has provided more than $39 billion in financing for low-carbon activities to help address climate change. It committed $12 billion in 2014 alone, of which 40 percent went to renewable energies – solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, advanced biofuels, or mixed portfolios.
