The castle is hosting the ceremonial engagement of Knight Beneš of Dubá and the beautiful Ludmila of Vartemberk, which should affirm peace between the disputing noble families. On his journey, he encounters the corpse of a merchant that had been ambushed and robbed. He sends his page Oto to track the bandits, but the murderers manage to escape. At that time, nobody suspects what impact this crime will have on the celebration, which is to be held along with a tournament the next day. Yet that very evening, lemons that the murderer‘s stole from the merchant’s cart appear on the banquet table at Vartemberk Castle. And shortly afterwards, burgrave Jošt is murdered. But he isn’t the last corpse...
