BACKGROUND

• In 1970 the FAA introduced the “Accident Prevention Program.

• The mission was to reduce general aviation accidents.

• The mission was to be accomplished By “Accident Prevention Specialists” researching the primary cause of accidents involving human, mechanical and environmental factors.

AVIATION SAFETY PROGRAM

• In 1995 the “Accident Prevention Program” and the “Accident Prevention Specialist” were renamed.

• The program became the “Aviation Safety Program” and the “Accident Prevention Specialist became the “Aviation Safety Program Manager”.
