  • IIn education, the student uses the computer to perform three functions: logic comparisons, arithmetic operations, storage, and retrieval. TThe computer accomplishes these functions at high speed, storing huge amounts of data in a binary format. TThe central processing unit (CPU), controls what is happening. Arithmetic logic unit (ALU) performs arithmetic operations. Primary memory, ROM and RAM, store all data and instructions necessary for operations. TThe operating system, is the control program that handles the transfer of data, and makes possible to enters and runs programs. This Chapter has explored the functions of the major input, output, and input/output devices; and the criteria for hardware selection.
