Relating To Theories

The whole book is a reflection on rage and anger against people (mother), and how to overcome this anger.

Five Theories:1. Tuckman’s Theory2. Psychology of Meeting/Environment3. When Does a Group Become A Group4. Resolving Conflict5. Love Your Passengers

Tuckman’s Theory

Storming: Mother and Max not seeing eye to eye

Mother wants Max to stop causing mischief Max wants to keep causing mischief

A conflict arises and Max is sent to his room

Psychology Of Environment

Metaphor for the rage inside of Max Barkers and Biters:

I’ll never agree with this proposal You’re all stupid and wrong Throw temper tantrums to get their way

Opposing Barkers and Biters: Stay Calm and Breath Hold Your Ground Wait Out Their Outbursts

When Does A Group Look Like A Group

Group and Team are not the same concept Group =

1. Common Fate: Experience interrelated outcomes

2. Similarity: Behaviors resemble one another

3. Proximity: Wild Things are very close to each other “For example, the spectators at a football game may seem to

be a disorganized mass of individuals who happen to be in the same place at the same time, but the tendency of the spectators to shout the same cheer, express similar emotions, and move together to create a “wave” gives them entitativity” – Donald T. Campbell

Wild Things = Group

Resolving Conflict

Three Steps:1. Prepare For Resolution: Max’s anger subsides.2. Understand Situation: Was sent to room for

bad behavior.3. Reach Agreement: Accept punishment and

move on.

Love Your Passengers

In order to make the experience enjoyable, you have to show love to the people you are with.

No arguments should ever be the cause of separation, especially when it comes to family.

You need to do what you have to do to show love to your family and friends.

Relation To My Family

Resolution takes TIME Both parties need to be prepared to

resolve and forgive. Deep down, we all love each other Consensus isn’t always reached, but

sometimes you do something because you know it makes the person you love happy.

Forgive, Resolve, and Move on
