The CRP Group – since 1996

• CRP is a pioneer in Additive Manufacturing, having started in 1996when it was almost unknown in Italy. In the Nineties 3D printingtechnology was known as Rapid Prototyping: it was a fast, costeffective way to realize new design concepts; it allowed us to createperfect 3D shapes.

• The studies carried out by CRP Technology from 1996 have changedthe scenario of Rapid Prototyping introducing a new concept of AdditiveManufacturing and 3D Printing: Windform 3D Printing materialshave allowed the technology of selective laser sintering (SLS) in orderto realize high performing parts for wind tunnel applications as well asfinished and functional parts.

• Windform’s mechanical properties made them a layer above 3DPrinting, leading from Rapid Prototyping to Additive Manufacturing. Thebirth and launch of Windform materials has been an important turningpoint worldwide.

• It occurred in 2005, when we created, produced and launched on themarket Windform XT, composite polyamide based material for SLS,the first carbon fiber filled ever.

• CRP Racing was founded in December 2006, as CRPTechnology’s Racing Department. CRP Racing’s goal was tobecome the main point of reference in its market for quality,speed, reliability, ability and service.

• CRP Racing became the leading two stroke tuning firm inItaly, winning the Road Racing Italian Championship andHonda Trophy in 2007 and 2009.

• In 2009 we decided to bring the “CRP Method” to a newproject: the eCRP was the first e-racer to come out of Italy.The CRP’s electric program started

• In 2009, CRP Group took the opportunity to develop a fullyelectric racing motorcycle and so they started with the eCRPproject. CRP made two years of racing that are servedprimarily as a technology scouting, then in 2011 they startedworking on the road version, Energica.

• The team started to fit the needs of a streetbike with the newelectric technology and the differences of the racing market,from here they arrived at the new version of Energica Ego.

Energica Patents

✓ VCU – Vehicle Control Unit. Energica’s battery, inverter, chargerand ABS are constantly monitored and managed by onetechnological jewel: the VCU, completely designed and developedby Energica. This Vehicle Control Unit implements a multi-mapadaptive energy, and a power management algorithm managesthe electric motorcycle. Carefully monitoring and adjusting themotor’s power according to the throttle thrust 100 times persecond while riding.

✓ Supply Unit. This important technical component containsentirely the rechargeable batteries, sealing them in-house. Usuallythe batteries, contained in this component, warm up: theproduced heat dissipates only minimally. Therefore, the batteriescontained in the case are subjected to overheating, which wouldgreatly reduce the life cycle. Energica battery case has beendesigned to avoid this overheating. The case includes a coolingplate made of aluminum and provided with several through holesthat communicate outside and cross the cooling plate. Energica isthe only electric motorcycle manufacturer to adopt thistechnology.

✓ eABS. The latest generation eABS mounted on the Energicamotorcycle is able to limit the maximum regenerative torque incase of slippery conditions. In particular, the system verifies thepresence of friction conditions and, in case of slippery conditions,limits the maximum regeneration torque.

The FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup is becoming a reality in 2019, ushering in the beginning of a new era for two-wheeled motorsport: sustainable and environmentally aware competition on electric motorcycles.

Energica is the single manufacturer chosen by Dorna for the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup.A tuned version of Energica Ego, Ego Corsa, will be used by teams that will race the FIM Enel MotoE™ World Cup.

The R&D team is already committed on this bike, working on driveability on the track, and then on track specifications.Testing demo program is taking place during the 2018 MotoGP™ World Championship.
