The Youth are the Future of the Motherland. Our town is a coastal

community and people are dependent on

fishing. Some families are too poor to send

their children to finish high school. They help

their families in whatever way.

Unfortunately, some of these out-of-school

youth resort to gambling, drugs and

they also participate in environmentally-

destructive practices.

PROJECT GOAL

The goal of the project was to

develop a youth core group & expose them

to realities of the underprivileged

especially the out-of-school youth

to enable them to collectively pursue volunteer efforts to

lure our fellow youth away from vice,

unhealthy practices and avoid destructive influences in society.

ACTIVITIES1. A group of 4 including myself arranged for a Christmas caroling last

year. The plan was to sing in households but instead of getting money from the households after singing, we handed out an invitation to the youth in the household to attend a small gathering, a Christmas party.

2. During the Christmas party, we had a role play where there were scenarios where the talent of the participant was discovered.

3. In subsequent meetings, we arranged activities that were meaningful to us that later resulted in more youth volunteerism such as the ff:

Adopt a Stray Cat and Dog Trash to Cash Baking Banca Riding Contest Teach National Anthem Singing

ACTIVITIESDiscovering the talents, skills, interests and

sentiments of the youth and organizing a pool of youth trainors.

Arranging activities that are of mutual interestBuilding consensus on what project to engage inSoliciting ideas from adults to volunteer their

time to give inputs to meet the needs of the youth.

Linking up with other organizations to further support youth endeavors

RESULTSAs a result of that small project, we had achieved

the following:1.Volunteerism. More youth members signifying

interest to join our group of Christmas carol givers this December.

2.Nationalism. More participants to the activity intended to teach elementary graders to sing the National Anthem properly understanding each word.

3.Value Formation. More youth avoiding unhealthy practices like gambling, smoking, illegal sand extraction, illegal harvesting of seaweeds and the like.
