    among the big festivals that have been celebrated in Malaysia since decades ago-as the Indians come to Malaysia through labour migrations,traders and etc

    WHEN IT IS CELEBRATED?

    It is is an important festival in Hindhuism thatmarks the beginning of the Hindu New Year -according to the Lunar Calendar.

    It falls between the middle of October andthe middle of November, which is usually theend of the Monsoon season

    PERIOD OF CELEBRATION

    It is lasted for five days as Dhanteras, Choti Diwali,Badi(Main) Diwali, Padwa and Bhaiduj

    There are a lot of different names for these days in

    different regions of India(South & North India, East& West India) as the different languages spoken inthat regions (i.e. Hindu, Urdu, Telugu, Tamil,Gujarati, Bengali)

    falls on day 13th of the second part of thelunar month, they pray and having a specialbreakfast made of many different foods

    SECOND DAY(CHOTI DIWALI)

    it commemorates Lord Krishnas vanquishing ofNarakasura, a demon, while in the southernregions of India,during this day, Hindus arise

    before sunrise and bathe in fragrant oil beforewearing their new clothes. It is regarded as thesame as bathing in the holy river of Ganges.Besides, Hindus paint elaborate drawings with

    rice powder outside their house which isbelieved to bring prosperity. In additions,children light firecrackers announcing the defeatof Narakasura

    THIRD DAY(BADI DIWALI)

    called Lakshmi Puja is the most important of allthese days

    Worship to the goddess of wealth, Lakshmi,and the

    god of auspicious beginnings, Ganesh, marks thisday. During this day, the lamps are litted in homesand in the sreets to usher in prosperity and goodwealth/wellbeing

    FORTH DAY(PADWA)

    large amounts of food are decorated to symbolizeKrishnas lifting ofGovardhan hill- to save thepeople and their cattle from rain as well as floods

    Besides, in the other parts of India, this daycommemorates Lord Vishnus vanquishing of Bali,

    the demon-king. Husbands present their wives withgifts on this day.

    LAST DAY(BHAIDUJ)

    Meetings between brothers and sisters happen.Brothers go to their sisters homes to share a meal

    and give their sisters gifts as well. This is based on

    the story of Yama, the lord of Death, who visitedYami, his sister.

    WHERE IT IS CELEBRATED?

    Commonly, big celebrations of Deepavali take place inIndia, Malaysia, Nepal, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Australia,Britain and United States. Deepavali Melas are beingenjoyed by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains, and Buddhists alike

    One unique costum in Malaysia is for Hindu Malaysiansto welcome Malaysians of different ethnicities andreligions in to their home for a meal. This is a fostergoodwill among all Malaysians

    HOW IT IS CELEBRATED

    we can conclude that Deepavali celebrationsis celebrated by exchange gifts, burstingfirecrackers, lighting fireworks, colourful

    sparkles and bonfires and having festivemeals. Dipa lights are placed outside ofhouses,on floors and doorways. Doorways

    are hung with torans af mango leaves andmarigolds.

    WHY IT IS CELEBRATED?

    All these ways of celebrations associated a numberof stories in Hindu traditions. Hindus celebrateDeepavali due to the victory of Goodness over Evil

    and Light over Darkness and it is important to prayto Lakhsmi(Goddess of wealth,light, prosperity andwisdom), and Ganesha(the Remover of Obstaclesand the Lord of Beginnings).
