History & Origins of Ganesh Chaturthi

Ganesha Chaturthi is the day that we celebrated on the birthday of Lord Ganesha. This celebration normally lasts 10 days.

Ganesha Chaturthi usually starts on the forth day of the waxing moon period (usually between August 20 and September 15).

The first public Ganesh Chaturthi was first celebrated in 1989 in Pune, India. This celebration was put together by Bal Gangadhar Tilak. Before that the Ganesh Chaturthi was a private thing that everybody did in their own homes.

He proposed so to promote unity amongst the Indians to fight for their freedom and free the country from the British Rule.

History of Lord Ganesh

The story goes that Lord Ganesha wasn’t actually born to Shiva and Parvati but instead created by Parvati using turmaric powder.

Brahma fitted the head of the elephant(Gajasura) to the boy and sprinkled water on Ganesha.

Ganesha saying “My mother and father are my world, they are my universe, I just went around them”.

Ganesh saying that whoever looked at the moon on Chaturthi day, Ganesha’s birthday, and whoever did look at the moon would get bad luck.

Ganesh Chaturthi Pooja

Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated across the county irrespective of religion, caste and creed.

Pooja is carried out with Vedic mantras , Homes, Archanas and offering of his favorite Modak ,puffed rice, sweets and jaggery according to each mode of workship.Also make pooja of Paravati and Shankar.

On the final day of workship.the Ganesh status made out of clay is dissolved in water body or the water from the kalash is also mixed in water body.

Ganesh Visarjan in done on Anand Chaturthi and Home Ganesh is dissolved in water after period of 2nd ,5th,7th,9th,10th day.
